Chapter 258 I Won't Indulge

Hearing the unfamiliar voice, Jiang Shuyue suddenly looked up and saw a handsome man staring at her with disbelief.

Why does he look so familiar?

Jiang Shuyue racked her brains, searching her memory.

Before she could even remember who this person was, the man excitedly said, "Sister Yue'er, I'm Su Peng, don't you remember me?"

Upon hearing the name, my brain instantly connected, just like a computer that had no signal.

Su Peng is the eldest son of the original owner's maternal uncle, making him the original owner's true cousin.

Jiang Shuyue thought to herself:

What a small world! I always run into people I'd rather avoid here.

She knew exactly who her uncle's family was. The original owner might have been suppressed by bloodline, but she wouldn't be.

A moment of stunned silence passed in the blink of an eye. Jiang Shuyue feigned confusion, looking around before turning to the other person. "Young Master, were you calling me?"

"Sister Yue'er, are you really still alive? Why did Uncle announce that you died suddenly from an illness?" Su Peng was overjoyed, looking at Jiang Shuyue as if he had seen gold, his eyes shining.

"Young master, you've mistaken me for someone else. I don't know you," Jiang Shuyue said, walking around Su Peng and about to leave.

Su Peng quickly reached out to block his way, "You can't fool me, you are Sister Yue'er. You look just like your aunt, even the beauty mark between your eyebrows is exactly the same."

Jiang Shuyue almost laughed out of anger, "Are you saying that all the women with a beauty mark between their eyebrows are your cousins? I've seen several people with beauty marks between their eyebrows in the capital. You must have a lot of cousins, young master."

"No, it's not that. It's just that you look too much like her." Seeing Jiang Shuyue's firm denial, Su Peng began to doubt that he had mistaken her for someone else.

There's no such thing as someone coming back to life after dying, but there are people who look alike.

After rejecting his own idea, Su Peng took another look and saw that the woman opposite him had a very high resemblance to his cousin in terms of eyebrows and eyes, but her overall demeanor was quite different.

And that all-seeing gaze is something no ordinary woman possesses.

Su Peng slowly lowered his hand that was blocking Jiang Shuyue's path, and said with an embarrassed smile, "Sorry, you really look too much like my cousin."

Jiang Shuyue said calmly, "It's okay, you're not the only one who's admitted their mistake."

Jiang Shuyue left without looking back. Su Peng watched her departing figure and muttered to himself, "If only she were really my cousin. With that noble demeanor, I would believe she were a concubine."

Su Peng's maternal grandparents' family owned a dye shop, and he could tell at a glance that the fabric Jiang Shuyue was wearing was quite valuable.

Jiang Shuyue looked back when she was almost at the palace gate, and breathed a sigh of relief when she didn't see Su Peng following her.

Fortunately, after so many years, she is quite different from the original owner's reserved and demure demeanor. As long as she doesn't acknowledge it, no one can do anything to her.

Even if they were her own relatives, let alone the original owner's vampire relatives, she wouldn't tolerate it.

Jiang Shuyue patted her chest to calm herself down and walked towards the palace gate.

She showed the jade token that Xiao Jingzhao had given her, and the guards let her in after only glancing at it.

This time, without Xiang Yang or Xiang Song accompanying her, and without a sedan chair, Jiang Shuyue had to walk.

Fortunately, she exercises regularly and doesn't feel tired when walking.

With its red walls, green tiles, and soaring eaves, she strolled along, leisurely admiring the ancient and elegant palace.

"Sister Jiang."

As I reached the end of a palace path, someone called out from behind me.

Jiang Shuyue turned around and saw Xu An walking towards her from another palace path.

"Xu An, what a coincidence, I actually ran into you here." Jiang Shuyue stopped and smiled.

Xu An quickly caught up, beaming, and said, "What a coincidence! I thought I was seeing things, but it really is Sister Jiang."

He then bowed to Jiang Shuyue and said, "Thank you for the book, Sister Jiang."

Jiang Shuyue smiled and said, "No need to be polite. You should first learn the basic medical principles from Uncle Lin, and then look at more medical records and cases later. That way, you will remember them more deeply."

Xu An nodded to indicate that he understood.

Then he asked, "Sister Jiang, are you going to see Uncle Lin? Uncle Lin is at the Imperial Hospital right now. I'll go with you."

Having met twice, Xu An was no longer shy. He often heard his master talk about Sister Jiang's medical skills, and he admired Jiang Shuyue immensely.

Jiang Shuyue pointed ahead, "I'm going to pay my respects to the Empress Dowager. I won't go to Uncle Lin's place. Just give him my regards. Next time you have a day off, you can come to the Jiang residence with Uncle Lin."

Xu An happily replied, "Yes, I'll definitely go."

Accompanied by Xu An, Jiang Shuyue continued walking forward.

Ahead were several palace paths. In Jiang Shuyue's eyes, the palaces and walls all looked pretty much the same, and she couldn't remember which one she had taken last time.

Seeing Jiang Shuyue slow down, Xu An said, "The leftmost palace path leads to the inner palace. Some palaces are connected, so there is more than one path to the inner palace."

Seeing that Xu An was about to continue seeing her off, Jiang Shuyue stopped and said, "Xu An, you go ahead with your work. It's inconvenient for men to enter and leave the inner palace. I can go to the inner palace by myself."

Xu An naturally understood palace rules, and he nodded, saying, "If you keep walking forward, you'll see the Imperial Garden. If you follow the left path, you'll be heading towards the inner palace."

After saying goodbye to Xu An, Jiang Shuyue quickened her pace, intending to leave the palace before noon.

But before they had gone far, they spotted a familiar figure in the Imperial Garden.

Jiang Shuyue never expected to meet Xiao Jingzhao here.

"Yue Niang."

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

Jiang Shuyue lowered her eyes slightly and gave a curtsy.

When I looked up again, that bright yellow was already in front of me.

"You didn't come to see me?"

Jiang Shuyue: "..." How am I supposed to answer that?

"The original plan was to pay respects to the Empress Dowager first," Jiang Shuyue said subtly, implying that Your Majesty was to come later.

Xiao Jingzhao wasn't stupid either. Jiang Shuyue had come all this way, so of course she was going to see the Empress Dowager.

He suppressed a faint smile and waved to the distance, at which point Jiang Shuyue saw several palace maids approaching.

As the palace maid approached, Xiao Jingzhao slightly raised his hand and instructed, "Send the young lady to Cining Palace."

Then he said gently to Jiang Shuyue, "I'll go over in a little while."

Jiang Shuyue looked up and her gaze met his phoenix eyes beneath his sword-like eyebrows.

His gaze was so gentle it seemed to encompass everything, like the clear lake water rippling under the warm spring sun, making one unable to resist immersing oneself in it.

Now, he has lost the coldness he once possessed and gained more of the composure and tranquility of a monarch.

"Please, young lady." The palace maids all curtsied in unison.

"Um."

Jiang Shuyue hurriedly looked away, gave a slight bow to Xiao Jingzhao, and walked forward.

Jiang Shuyue decided that she would never look him in the eye again. His captivating eyes seemed to have a magical power, drawing her in without her noticing.

"Master, Miss Jiang didn't bring you a gift." Xiang Yang appeared out of nowhere and said, watching the departing figure.

Xiao Jingzhao: "..."

"Are you free today?" Xiao Jingzhao glared at Xiang Yang and strode towards the Imperial Study.

Xiang Yang scratched the back of his head. "Miss Jiang only has one gift box. I think I'm not wrong."
