Xiao Jingzhao extended his hand to Jiang Shuyue, "Go down and stretch for a while before you leave."
"Your Majesty, please go ahead. There are too many people here, and I don't want to attract attention," Jiang Shuyue said frankly.
After drinking two cups of tea, I felt a slight urge to go to the bathroom.
However, she has good kidneys and has been practicing yoga for body restoration since giving birth to Sui Sui, so she never experiences the urge to urinate.
It's fine to wait until noon.
Xiao Jingzhao said, "This is the first post station outside the capital. Only our carriage will stop here briefly."
"Yes, I misspoke. Gao Mu's carriage should also be following behind."
Seeing that Xiao Jingzhao did not withdraw his hand, Jiang Shuyue had no choice but to bite the bullet and hand it over.
As her slender hand touched his large palm, she could clearly feel the calluses on Xiao Jingzhao's fingertips, which must have been caused by years of wielding a sword.
Xiao Jingzhao lifted the carriage curtain with one hand and helped Jiang Shuyue down from the carriage with the other.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, Jiang Shuyue quickly withdrew her hand.
Looking around, I indeed didn't see any of the noble ladies' or young masters' carriages.
"Miss."
Seeing Jiang Shuyue get off the carriage, Qiuju jumped off the carriage shaft and ran over.
Upon seeing Xiao Jingzhao dressed in casual clothes, Qiuju quickly bowed and said, "Greetings, Your Majesty."
"No need for formalities, it's chilly outside, please take your young lady inside." Xiao Jingzhao was very considerate.
At this moment, the postmaster led two men to greet him. "Welcome, Your Majesty."
The postmaster seemed to have already received news of the emperor's impending arrival, and dismissed all other people before welcoming the group into a large hall.
Upon entering the main hall, Xiao Jingzhao whispered a few words to the postmaster, then walked towards a small hall to the side.
After Xiao Jingzhao left, the postmaster turned around and respectfully said to Jiang Shuyue and her servant, "You two young ladies must be tired from your journey. Please follow me to the back hall to rest."
There were no women working at the inn, so Jiang Shuyue couldn't conveniently ask where the outhouse was.
He thought to himself that if no one else was around in a while, he would go and find them himself.
The postmaster led the two men to the entrance of the back hall and stopped.
He gestured for her to sit inside and rest, saying, "Miss, you may sit inside and rest. Tea has been prepared. There is a place to wash your hands further back."
The postmaster phrased it tactfully, and the two understood that he was referring to the washroom.
Qiuju bowed slightly. "Thank you."
Stepping into the back hall, the room was warm and cozy, with exquisite tea sets on the table.
"Miss, His Majesty must have sent someone to make these arrangements long ago, right?"
"Yes, we should go to the back washroom first."
The two came out of the washroom, and Qiuju pointed to the teapot on the table, "Would you like a cup, Miss?"
"The Emperor's carriage carries a teapot. You can drink it yourself. He should arrive around noon. You can drink as much as you like."
There was no one else around, and Qiuju didn't stand on ceremony. She poured herself a glass and started drinking it.
After a short rest, Jiang Shuyue and Qiu Ju headed towards the front hall.
As soon as one foot stepped through the archway, the tall figure stood with his hands behind his back, facing away from the back hall.
Jiang Shuyue paused slightly before walking outside.
Hearing footsteps behind him, Xiao Jing slowly turned around and asked, "Aren't you cold walking this distance?"
He was referring to the distance from the post station hall to the carriage.
Jiang Shuyue met his concerned gaze and smiled faintly, "I won't be cold."
She was still wearing a padded jacket, so even if she walked a much farther distance, she wouldn't feel cold, let alone a few meters away.
The winter sun offered no warmth, and the distant mountains were still covered in a blanket of white snow.
As long as there's no howling north wind, everything is fine.
Gao Mu, who was standing guard by the carriage, stepped forward and bowed when he saw the emperor leave.
Xiao Jingzhao nodded slightly to him and told him to just follow closely.
Taking advantage of the moment when Xiao Jingzhao and Gao Mu were talking, Jiang Shuyue quickly boarded the carriage.
Her steps were light as if she were walking on flat ground, showing none of the frail appearance one would expect from a lady of high birth.
Xiao Jingzhao saw this and a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips.
As soon as Jiang Shuyue sat down, a faint, cool bamboo fragrance wafted over.
After sitting down, Xiao Jingzhao looked at Jiang Shuyue and said, "No wonder Sui Sui is in good health. It turns out that Yue Niang also has a good constitution."
"I was born into a miserable life with no one to rely on, so I can only take care of myself."
Before Jiang Shuyue could finish speaking, Xiao Jingzhao said, "You have me, and you have your son."
“The Emperor is the Emperor of Wanling Kingdom. How could I, a commoner, possibly possess him?” Jiang Shuyue said tactfully, but Xiao Jingzhao’s brow still twitched slightly.
Is Yue Niang disgusted with him?!
Jiang Shuyue noticed Xiao Jingzhao's subtle expression. She frankly told Xiao Jingzhao, "If I encounter any difficulties, I will still ask the Emperor for help."
She has a powerful figure readily available, so she should still use him; she won't pretend to be aloof.
"Just do what you want to do. As long as you turn around, I will always be behind you."
Xiao Jingzhao gazed tenderly at Jiang Shuyue's eyes.
Jiang Shuyue: "..."
As expected of the Emperor, even his flirtatious words are spoken with utmost seriousness.
For a moment, the atmosphere in the carriage seemed to freeze.
Just as Jiang Shuyue was wondering how to answer, Xiao Jingzhao took out two books from a drawer under the coffee table.
"Moon Lady, do you like this travelogue?"
Jiang Shuyue took it and glanced at the signature: Qingling Shanren.
The other book, however, was unsigned.
Jiang Shuyue returned Qingling Shanren's book to Xiao Jingzhao, saying, "Let's read it together."
Xiao Jingzhao took it and obediently began to read it.
If Eunuch Ma were to witness this scene, he would probably be utterly astonished.
The book in Jiang Shuyue's hand tells the story of a physician concubine.
Fortunately, there were no explicit passages in the content. After reading for a while, Jiang Shuyue secretly raised her eyes and stole a glance at Xiao Jingzhao.
"Doesn't Yue Niang like it?"
