Chapter 62 The Clinic is Robbed

Seeing the headmaster's expression, Su Huai-ren knew that he was worried about him.

"Don't worry, Headmaster. We have nothing to fear if we are upright." Su Huai-ren straightened his chest, exuding righteousness, and strode towards the front hall.

It turned out that the official had brought him an appointment letter, appointing him as the Chief Clerk of Laiyang City, responsible for documents, records, and seals.

Although it was only a ninth-rank official position, it excited Su Huai-ren greatly, as he had finally returned to officialdom.

"Honey, quickly tell Yue'er this good news."

Su Huai-ren looked up at the sky. "Yue-ya has already gone home. It's not too late to tell her tomorrow."

The headmaster congratulated him, and the two drank a few cups of wine before going home.

When he got home, Aunt Su pulled him aside again and told him that Sui Sui's father was the heir apparent.

Su Huai-ren looked at the appointment letter in his hand, his heart filled with mixed feelings.

His return to officialdom was once again thanks to Yueya.

That night, a group of men in black appeared outside the Prince's Mansion again.

After a fierce fight, two men in black fled.

"Don't pursue a desperate enemy."

Upon hearing the news, Xiao Jingzhao raised his hand to stop the guards who were about to chase after them.

"Master, both of them are injured and probably can't get far," the leader of the group reported, bowing.

"It would be good to leave a messenger in the capital to prevent repeated sneak attacks."

The guards dealt with the corpses on the ground, while Xiao Jingzhao led Xiang Song and Xiang Yang towards the villa.

...

At the window, Jiang Shuyue rolled up her sleeves, revealing her fair wrists like white jade. Her long black hair was tied back with a hairpin, and her face, without a veil, was so charming that one glance would make one fall in love.

She moved the paper with the names of the medicines written on it on the desk, and each time she moved it, she would bend down and say something to her son.

The three had keen hearing, and Xiao Jingzhao narrowed his eyes slightly.

This woman, instead of teaching proper medical skills, why is she teaching her son to concoct poisons?

After standing at a distance for a moment, Xiao Jingzhao turned to leave.

"Master, are we not going in?"

"Don't go in and disturb them. Have someone protect this place and make sure the people in the capital don't find out." Xiao Jingzhao reluctantly turned his gaze away.

Back at the Prince's residence, Xiao Jingzhao instructed Xiang Song, "The tutor I asked you to find should be sent to the villa tomorrow. Sui Sui is exceptionally intelligent and can begin her education early."

“My lord, I think it would be better to bring Sui Sui back to the palace and let the young master teach her personally than to invite the teacher over.”

Xiao Jingzhao certainly understood that Xiang Song's suggestion was correct. His elder brother was well-read and had outstanding literary talent, making him the perfect candidate to educate his son.

Xiang Yang slapped his forehead and said, "Why doesn't Master let Sui Sui enter Linjiang Academy?"

Xiang Song glared at him sideways, "The youngest child at Linjiang Academy is already six years old, and the young master is not even five. This is inappropriate."

Xiao Jingzhao originally intended to send Sui Sui to Linjiang Academy, but the woman said she wanted to return to the capital, so he had to give up the idea.

The next day, just as Jiang Shuyue was about to leave, Xiang Song brought over a gentleman who looked to be about fifty years old.

"Guard, please pass on a message to your master: I have my own arrangements for Sui Sui's studies, so there's no need for him to worry about it."

After being decisively rejected by Jiang Shuyue, Xiang Song had no choice but to leave with his men.

Just as I was seeing Xiang Song off, Xu Dong arrived.

"Miss, a thief broke into the clinic last night, and Father has already reported it to the authorities," Xu Dong said anxiously, wiping the sweat from his brow.

This morning, he and his father went to the clinic. When they opened the door, the medicinal herbs were scattered all over the floor, and the clinic was in a mess.

Xu Dong's father told him to keep an eye on the scene while he went to the yamen to report the incident. Before the officials arrived, Xu Dong's father returned from the yamen and asked Xu Dong to inform Jiang Shuyue.

"Don't worry, the clinic only has medicinal herbs, so the loss won't be too great," Jiang Shuyue said calmly.

"The medicinal herbs aren't cheap either!"

Xu Dong looked pained. Although he hadn't kept any of his daily consultation fees at the clinic, there were still many valuable medicinal herbs there.

Qiuju and Suisui stayed at the villa, while Jiang Shuyue followed Xu Dong to the clinic.

A group of people were gathered outside the clinic.

Someone said, "The thief's actions last night were suspicious; he robbed three clinics in a row."

Jiang Shuyue pushed through the crowd and walked into the house, where she saw several yamen runners inspecting the missing items.

Xu Dong's father bent down to count the missing medicinal herbs behind the counter.

"Sir, both bottles of wound medicine are gone."

"Boss, not much was stolen, but the house was ransacked."

Seeing Jiang Shuyue enter the room, Uncle Xu said with lingering fear.

"Miss Jiang."

A familiar voice sounded from behind.

As soon as Jiang Shuyue turned around, she saw Xiang Yang bowing to her.

Xiao Jingzhao was sitting calmly in her usual consultation spot.

"Have you seen Xiang Song?"

"I've seen you. Thank you for your kindness, Your Highness. But these thieves have their eyes on the clinic. It seems the clinic won't be able to stay open." Jiang Shuyue's words were very clear: she and her daughter were leaving.

Jiang Shuyue looked calm and composed, showing no signs of being frightened.

The thieves from last night were, without a doubt, the escaped assassins.

The yamen runner reported to Xiao Jingzhao and then left.

While Uncle Xu was busy cleaning up the spilled medicinal herbs, Xu Dong overheard the conversation between Jiang Shuyue and Xiao Jingzhao.

Xu Dong came to Jiang Shuyue's side and said, "Don't worry, Miss, the clinic will still be open. I'll stay in the backyard of the clinic tonight."

Jiang Shuyue nodded, "This clinic has a backyard and kitchen, and there's enough room for your family of three."

As Jiang Shuyue spoke, she took out the rental contract from her sleeve and handed it to Xu Dong.

"This clinic is yours to manage. It's only been open for a little over a month. With Uncle Xu's medical skills, Jishetang will definitely be able to stay in business."

Xu Dong was stunned, "Miss, what's wrong with you...?"
