Chapter 86 A close neighbor is worse than a distant relative

"The Zhen family? Is it the Zhen family of the Grand Scholar?" Jiang Shuyue asked in surprise.

She had only moved here a few days ago, so why did the Zhen family seem to be interested in befriending the Jiang family? She was quite surprised, since many people didn't know who lived in the Jiang family.

Qiuju placed the last flower into the porcelain vase. "It was the steward of the True Scholar's family. He said he was congratulating us on our housewarming."

Jiang Shuyue went to the small hall and looked at the gift sent by the Zhen family, which was an exquisite root carving ornament.

While Qiuju was putting the gifts away in the storeroom, Jiang Shuyue had a thought and took out some red ginseng from her spatial storage.

When Qiuju returned, Jiang Shuyue had already packed the red ginseng into a brocade box.

"Qiuju, go to Zhenfu yourself."

Qiuju glanced at the brocade box on the table, immediately understood, and smiled like a fox, "This servant understands, it's only natural for people to exchange gifts."

The little voice in her heart applauded her mistress, saying that this back-and-forth was just right, and that her mistress might even hit a real young master when she tossed the embroidered ball in the future.

Qiuju went straight to the Zhenfu behind Qingyunzhai after leaving the main gate.

The steward of the Zhenfu family personally accepted the return gift.

The butler smiled and said, "They say a close neighbor is worse than a distant relative. Mr. Jiang, you are too kind. My lady has not been feeling well recently. She will definitely pay a visit in a few days."

“My surname is Zhen, bestowed by my master. Please pass on a message to Master Jiang and his wife: our two families should visit each other more often in the future. If they need any help, please just let us know.”

The butler smiled warmly, which startled Qiuju.

...Master Jiang?

"No, Steward Zhen, you've got it wrong. Our Jiang family only has young ladies, not masters."

"Miss Jiang is a female household?" This time, it was the real steward's turn to be completely dumbfounded.

The mansion across the street is incredibly valuable; it's truly remarkable that a young woman could buy it.

Qiuju remained noncommittal, then smiled and said goodbye to go home.

Qiu Ju walked happily down the street when suddenly, a familiar figure caught her eye.

Why did they come looking for us?

While they were still stunned, they saw the steward of the Minister's mansion lead several servants into Qingyunzhai.

Qiuju quickly slipped aside to observe.

A moment later, the group came out and went to an inn not far away.

Seeing the steward of the Minister's mansion lead a few people away, Qiuju touched her purse and thankfully found some loose silver inside.

Qiuju strode into Qingyunzhai. The servant greeted her with a smile and asked warmly, "Miss, are you here to read or to buy writing materials?"

Qiuju wore a light and thin brocade dress. In order to make a good impression on the young lady, she spent almost all of her money on clothing.

The servant couldn't tell from her attire that she was a maid.

Qiu Ju said generously, "I want a sheet of white paper, the best kind."

"Alright, please wait a moment, miss."

The best white paper is placed on the top shelf.

Soon, the servant brought over a piece of white paper. As he wrapped it up, he said, "Miss, you're really lucky. This is the only piece of white paper left in the study."

Qiuju asked the price, handed over the loose silver, and asked with a smile, "Several people left empty-handed just now. Were they planning to buy a lot?"

The servant shook his head. "No, they're looking for someone. They brought a portrait and asked if I'd seen that young lady come to the study to buy something."

After the servant finished speaking, he smiled at Qiuju and said, "The portrait depicts a very beautiful girl."

Qiuju took the wrapped white paper, thanked her, and walked to the door, glancing once more into the room where the scholar was reading.

Seeing Nangong Zeyue sitting at the desk, and Sui Sui sitting on the desk, several scholars were happily talking to Sui Sui.

Laughter filled the room. Qiuju's eyebrows curved into a smile. The young master was so adorable; he was popular wherever he went.

Qiuju didn't go in to disturb them, and quickly walked towards the other side.

"Miss, guess who I saw?" Qiuju entered the room, handed the things she was carrying to Lan'er, and walked quickly toward Jiang Shuyue.

Jiang Shuyue put down the medical book in her hand, smiled slightly, and said, "Who else could it be? A member of the Jiang family, of course."

“Miss is wise, you guessed it right away. It is the steward of the Minister’s mansion. He is carrying a portrait and has been searching for you in the study and inn with his servants.”

"What's there to guess? The Wu family must have broken off the engagement, and Jiang Jiaojiao wants to settle scores with me," Jiang Shuyue said casually.

Qiu Ju looked gloating. "Jiang Jiaojiao is exactly twenty years old this year. She was rejected by the Wu family and has no choice but to marry someone from a lower social class."

Jiang Shuyue stretched her arms. "Qiuju, go and tidy up. Cangyun has gone out to deliver a message. Call Gao Mu, and let's go out and find a shop."

"Miss, you're going to open a clinic?"

Jiang Shuyue nodded, "Of course, this huge mansion needs to have a way to make money, right?"

She is developing medicine to treat the epidemic, but she doesn't open a clinic. It would be too abrupt if she suddenly came up with a prescription for the epidemic in the future.

Qiuju asked worriedly, "What if we run into people from the Minister's residence outside later?"

"Let's go out openly and honestly. I'm not going to eat Jiang Zhengming's rice anymore, so what's there to worry about?"

Qiu Ju thought about it again and realized that she was actually looking forward to it. When she ran into the sycophantic steward of the Minister's mansion, she was going to give him a good talking-to.

Jiang Shuyue sat in the carriage and looked up at both sides of the street. After walking through two nearby streets, she finally stopped at Baicao Street, which was not far from Guihua Street.

Seeing her mistress looking at the shops on both sides of the street, Qiuju suggested, "Miss, I've already counted, there are already three clinics on this street, if we open another one, it will be the fourth."

Jiang Shuyue understood Qiuju's meaning, and she asked in return, "If you're hungry, would you go to the street with only one restaurant, or the street with many restaurants?"
