Chapter 98 Unable to Escape

Caiyan lifted the car curtain and looked at the BMW outside.

She glanced at the carriage ahead and then lowered the curtain. "Miss is so clever. So many people are going to the temple today. If we hadn't waited outside the Prime Minister's residence, we probably wouldn't have even been able to find the Third Young Master."

"That's right. Don't you know who your young lady is? Today, he has no way to escape."

Jiang Jiaojiao specially put on a beautiful makeup look today, and she used vermilion paste to draw a flower on her forehead.

Her meticulously applied makeup made a difference. Even she herself thought she was stunningly beautiful.

"Caiyan, be careful in a moment. Whether we can get into the Prime Minister's residence depends on this."

Jiang Jiaojiao's words thrilled Caiyan. It seemed that her mistress intended to take her to the Prime Minister's residence as a dowry maid.

Wouldn't that mean she's serving the young master in place of the young lady when she's not available?

If she gives birth to a son or daughter in the future, she will naturally be elevated to the status of a concubine.

The thought of serving that gentle and refined young master made Caiyan blush and her heart race.

The carriage stopped, and Caiyan hurriedly took the veil from the carriage wall. "Miss, put it on quickly. Miss is right, seeing flowers through the mist is more alluring."

Inside the carriage in front, Wei Mingzhou picked up a folding fan and shook it vigorously.

There were ice basins in the carriage, and the fanned air was cool and refreshing.

He looked outside and saw the sun rising higher, his brow furrowing slightly.

"Young master, I heard that there is a path halfway up the mountain leading to the main hall at the top. The path is on the northwest side, where it won't be exposed to the sun in the morning."

Wei Mingzhou gritted his teeth and jumped off the carriage. "Let's go, let's go and come back quickly. If we have enough time, we can go to Yicui Tower to listen to a song when we get back."

Wei Mingzhou made up his mind that he couldn't go back too early today. If he went back too early, his grandmother would think that his prayers were too perfunctory.

The driver waited at the foot of the mountain, and Wei Mingzhou, no longer caring about running into Du Yutong, took the shade of the trees as soon as he got on the mountain path.

Jiang Jiaojiao and Caiyan were able to keep up with Wei Mingzhou's pace at first, but soon their figures disappeared into the crowd of people going up the mountain.

Jiang Jiaojiao was panting heavily as she walked. She looked ahead and realized there was still more than half the distance to go.

"Caiyan, my feet hurt, I really can't walk anymore." Jiang Jiaojiao put one hand on her hip and waved a round fan in the other.

The veil was cut by Caiyan, and the veil that barely covered her neck was fanned up, revealing her chest. People passing by frequently cast strange glances at her.

After the people who had passed by had gone far away, Caiyan suggested, "Miss, look how many people are offering incense today. Not to mention whether we can find Young Master Wei again when we go up, even if we do meet him, it will be inconvenient to strike up a conversation with him in such a crowded place."

Jiang Jiaojiao's spirits lifted. "You mean we'll just wait here?"

"I see a fork in the road ahead. Let's wait there."

"Good idea. There are so many people coming and going here, it's really not a good place."

Thinking that she could see Wei Mingzhou without having to climb to the top of the mountain, Jiang Jiaojiao's face immediately lit up with a smile again.

When they reached the fork in the road halfway up the mountain, Jiang Jiaojiao found a rock to sit down and rest.

Due to the drought, the bushes in the forest were not as lush as in previous years, and people could be seen clearly even from several meters away.

At this moment, Wei Mingzhou had already reached the path on one side of the fork in the road.

How could a pampered young master compare to a servant who runs around all day?

Wei Mingzhou was sweating profusely as he walked, while the servant acted as if nothing had happened.

Wei Mingzhou saw a large rock by the roadside and sat down. "I can't go on anymore. I'll rest for a bit before I continue."

The servant noticed that the young master's fair cheeks were flushed, and he was panting heavily even while sitting.

He mustered his courage and asked, "Young Master, are you just going up to find a talisman, or do you want to see Master Huiyuan in person?"

"Your young master doesn't know fortune telling, so why would he go to that bald monk? It's just a talisman to ward off evil spirits. It'll put Grandmother's mind at ease."

His stepmother managed the household affairs, and her monthly allowance was fixed. He had a sinecure, which left him with very little free time, and his salary wasn't enough to cover his expenses.

His aunt couldn't control the money at home, and he dared not ask his father for anything, for doing so would surely invite a scolding.

Only his grandmother could coax a few coins out of him.

I'm going to take one talisman home today, no matter what.

"Young master, I have an idea. I wonder if you think it would be suitable?"

This servant has been with Wei Mingzhou for many years, and he has a whole host of bad ideas.

Before the servant could finish speaking, he quickly closed his folding fan and waved his hand, saying, "No, I can't draw the talismans drawn by those bald monks. My grandmother is not easily fooled. She can tell whether the yellow paper used to draw the talismans is real or fake just by smelling it."

"Young master, that's not what I meant. Young master, could you give me some money for incense oil so I can go up the mountain to get the talisman? It's not sunny here, so you can just sit here and rest."

“Good idea, here you go, ten taels, you’re good if you can keep any.” Wei Mingzhou took out a silver ingot and threw it over.

The servant quickly caught it, his smile stretching from ear to ear. "Don't worry, young master, it's alright if there's none left. You've given me plenty of tips before."

"Hurry back, I'm starving."

"Yes, young master, wait here. I will be back in a quarter of an hour."

The servant took the silver ingot, turned around, and quickly disappeared down the mountain path.

At the fork in the road, Caiyan kept her eyes fixed on the stone path leading down the mountain.

Fifteen minutes later, fewer and fewer people were going up the mountain.

After a while, seeing no one coming down the mountain, Caiyan asked worriedly, "Miss, will Young Master Wei spend the night on the mountain?"

"No, Qinglian Temple rarely has pilgrims staying overnight."

...

Sure enough, less than a quarter of an hour later, the servant returned. He waved his hand and said, "Young master, I got it. I only gave him five taels of sesame oil money."
