Chapter 219 · Extra Four

Chapter 219 · Extra Four

After much thought, Ah Chan realized that she couldn't just send one wedding invitation, otherwise Ah Mian might faint from anger.

A month later, an envoy from the Great Xia Dynasty delivered the wedding invitation to Ye Chen, while A Mian received a handwritten letter from A Chan.

To prevent him from peeking, Ah Mian ran away as soon as she got the letter, completely unaware that something was wrong.

Ye Chen took the unsealed envelope from the messenger and then pulled out a wedding invitation from inside.

He frowned as he opened the wedding invitation, glanced at it, and slammed it shut. A moment later, he opened it again, trying to find evidence that he had just misread the words, but he failed.

He held the hot potato in his hand and began to count silently in his mind: three, two, one...

Outside the palace, the rain began to fall in torrents without warning.

Ye Chen seemed to foresee that he might not see the sun for the next month.

He glanced at the wedding invitation with disdain and asked the envoy who stood respectfully to the side, "Why do you humans like getting married so much?"

The envoy opened his mouth, then hesitated, saying, "For... a title?"

Ye Chen clicked his tongue: "Can't Bai Xiuming's marriage just not happen?"

Upon hearing this, the messenger felt a chill run down his spine. He had assumed that delivering a message to the Dragon Clan was just a routine task, but now it seemed that this Dragon King was quite displeased with Lord Bai.

"This...this...this official can't make the decision either," the envoy replied with a mournful face.

He's just a messenger; how could he possibly have a say in Lord Bai's marriage?

Ye Chen tossed the wedding invitation aside: "Alright, you can leave now."

The messenger breathed a sigh of relief, bowed to him, and left quickly, fearing that if he was any later, the Dragon King, who seemed to have a bad temper, would turn on him.

The rain lasted for more than two hours, and it was almost dark, but the rain showed no signs of letting up.

He waited a while longer, but Ah Mian still didn't return, so he had no choice but to get up and go look for her.

Following Ah Mian's scent, he went directly to Dragon Pool.

Dragon Pool is where the little dragons of the clan usually cultivate. There are hundreds of pools of all sizes. When night fell, I saw little dragons fighting in a large pool halfway up the mountain, probably fighting for territory.

He glanced at it once and looked away, continuing up the mountain path. The temperature at the summit was low and the air was cold, and the pool was small, so few little dragons were willing to come up.

However, there are occasional surprises. Before finding A-Mian, Ye Chen first saw a little white dragon. The pool where the little white dragon was soaking was a bit small, and its tail was sticking out, swaying from time to time.

Its scales weren't as beautiful as those of other small dragons; they were occasionally mottled, but they were still fairly neat. Judging from its scales, it was already a healthy small dragon.

Seemingly sensing the approaching night, the little white dragon raised its head and called out in a clear voice, "Your Majesty."

Ye Chen recognized it. If this little dragon were to be ranked according to human generations, it should call him "Grand-Uncle." This little dragon wasn't born into the dragon clan; it had wandered outside for several years before returning, covered in injuries.

Amian really likes this little dragon and often plays with it.

"Hmm," he replied casually, then asked, "Why are you here all by yourself, being bullied?"

"No, they're just too noisy." The little white dragon made no attempt to hide his disdain for his clansmen.

Ye Chen chuckled and asked again, "Do you know where A-Mian is?"

"A-Mian is in the top pool. I heard her crying just now, but now she's silent."

Ye Chen nodded and continued uphill. When he reached the summit, the ground beneath his feet was covered with a thick layer of ice, and the rain falling from the sky seemed to be mixed with ice shards.

There was only one pool on the mountaintop, filled with icy air, surrounded by thick ice.

There was no one in the pool, but the usually clear water was now bubbling continuously on the surface.

Ye Chen stood by the pool for a long time, watching the bubbles in the pool pop and burst, and a bunch of new bubbles emerged.

No wonder the little white dragon couldn't hear the crying anymore; it had cried itself into the water.

He was both amused and exasperated. He took a few steps forward, bent down, and dipped his hand into the pool.

The water in the cold pool flowed through Ye Chen's fingers, and a human figure appeared in the pool that was originally just water. The figure gradually became clearer and eventually solidified into the shape of A Mian.

A-Mian was still sobbing in the water when Ye Chen took her hand and pulled her out of the pool.

As soon as she stepped out of the pool, the water splashed onto the ground, but she didn't feel cold at all, completely immersed in her sorrow.

"How long are you planning to cry?" Ye Chen asked as he led her down the mountain.

"Mind your own business! I'm going to cry until the end of time!" A-Mian glared at Ye Chen, "It's all your fault for bringing me back! That's why A-Chan was tricked into marriage by that treacherous human!!!"

Although Ye Chen felt that A Mian's description of Bai Xiuming was very apt, the marriage fraud... she must have some misunderstanding about her sister.

If someone has truly been deceived into marriage, Bai Xiuming is the one who should be worried about.

However, after raising Amian, Ye Chen learned a profound lesson: when she is being unreasonable, never try to reason with her.

"So you're not going to their wedding?"

“Go!” A-Mian cried even louder.

As autumn approached, the incessant rain finally poured down from the Dragon Clan to the capital.

The officials of the Imperial Observatory were living in constant fear and doubt. They had clearly observed the celestial phenomena and calculated the date. The days before and after Lord Bai's wedding were sunny, so why did it suddenly start raining non-stop?

With less than five days until their wedding day, the officials responsible for astronomical calculations were practically bald from exhaustion. If it was still raining on the wedding day, not only would they lose their hair, but they would also lose their official hats.

Finally, when all else failed, one of the well-informed officials suggested, "I heard that Lord Bai has invited a Dragon King to the capital to attend the ceremony. If all else fails, we should ask the Supervisor to ask that Dragon King for help."

The official who came up with the bad idea was stared at by several colleagues for a long time, and finally everyone acquiesced to this alternative.

Unfortunately, the Dragon King, on whom so much hope was placed, could not control the rain in the capital. The only one who could stop the rain was Ah Chan, who was letting her younger sister roll around on the bed while she sat calmly to the side, trimming her nails.

After rolling around for a while, A-Mian sat up on A-Chan's bed with her hair all messed up, and asked angrily, "Were you tricked by that human?"

Do I look like someone who would be easily fooled?

After thinking about it seriously, A-Mian felt that this guess was indeed unreliable, so she continued to guess: "Then he seduced you, and you were blinded by his good looks. How shameless!"

Amian was so preoccupied with her anger that she didn't notice that Achan's eyebrows had been raised.

This guess itself isn't a problem, but the question is why Ah Mian would guess from this angle?

When she first saw Ah Mian with Ye Chen, she thought Ah Mian was clueless, but now it seems she was just good at pretending.

Achan moved from the chair to the bedside and leaned closer to Amian, asking, "Why do you seem so experienced?"

A-Mian froze for a moment, then quickly denied it: "No."

"Oh..." Ah Chan didn't believe it. "Really?"

A-Mian's eyes darted around for a moment, but she quickly turned her attention back, not letting A-Chan easily lead her astray: "That's not important, let's get down to business."

"Then you tell me."

"I do not agree to your marriage!" A-Mian stood up straight, quite assertive.

"Alright, have you figured out a route to help me escape this marriage?" Achan asked cooperatively.

"Of course I haven't thought it through." His momentum instantly weakened.

"Then keep crying."

"I knew it, he's the only one in your heart. Such a big thing as getting married, and you told me last, sob sob..." A-Mian readily wiped away her tears.

Achan really wanted to say that she wasn't the last to know, but that didn't really matter.

After crying for a while and seeing that Achan still wouldn't come to comfort her, her crying suddenly rose a octave: "Waaah...waaah..."

"Alright, if I don't get married, we don't know when we'll see each other again." Achan ruffled A-Mian's hair, making it even more messy.

"Hmph, those are all excuses." A-Mian turned her head away.

Ah Chan said softly, "The wedding was originally scheduled for five years from now. If you hadn't cried and wailed when we parted last time, why would I have moved the wedding forward?"

"Really?" A-Mian suddenly felt a little guilty. She had just cried out of habit, but she didn't know that A-Chan was so worried about her.

"Otherwise what?" Achan glanced at her sideways.

Amian immediately hugged Achan's arm: "I knew Achan was the best to me."

Ah Chan snorted: "Good to know."

"If I and Bai Xiuming both fell into the water, who would you save?"

Achan was stunned.

"I knew I wasn't the most important person in your heart!" A-Mian started wailing again.

Ah Chan rubbed her temples, wishing she could throw her younger sister out. Who could save her?

Although A-Mian's possessiveness towards A-Chan erupted for a moment, she was eventually appeased by A-Chan, and the two sisters huddled together to admire the beautiful jewelry that A-Chan had recently received.

She was in a good mood, and the rain that had been falling for several days finally stopped.

After the rain stopped, water was still dripping from the eaves. Ye Chen, who was sitting inside reading a storybook, suddenly looked up and went outside.

A figure leaped over the courtyard wall and landed gracefully in the courtyard; the newcomer was none other than Bai Xiuming.

He was still wearing a vermilion official robe and carrying a small jar of wine. When he saw Ye Chen looking over, he raised his hand and threw the jar of wine at him.

Ye Chen caught it with a flip of his hand, opened it and smelled it. Although it was not wine brewed by a spirit, it tasted good and was a fine wine.

He picked up the teacup on the table, poured two cups of wine, pushed one towards Bai Xiuming, and after Bai Xiuming sat down, asked, "Isn't it said that men and women of your race cannot meet before marriage?"

“I haven’t seen her.” He paused for a moment, then added, “She’s too busy to see me right now.”

Ye Chen knew perfectly well why A Chan was busy, because A Mian was also busy with her right now.

Since arriving in the capital, the two sisters have been inseparable, leaving no room for anyone else to interfere.

Bai Xiuming downed the wine in his cup in one gulp, then turned to Ye Chen and asked, "When are you leaving?"

Ye Chen toyed with the teacup in his hand, his expression indescribable: "I want to leave now, do you think that's okay?"

Bai Xiuming thought about it and realized it might not work.

Ye Chen glanced at him and scoffed coldly. This guy couldn't make decisions either.

"If you don't want me to come, then don't send wedding invitations to the Dragon Clan."

"Do you think I want to give it away?" Bai Xiuming grabbed the wine jar and poured himself another cup of wine.

"Do you think I wanted to come?" Ye Chen snorted.

Unfortunately, neither of them has the final say in this matter.

The two fell silent, clinked glasses, and realized they were both in the same boat.
