Chapter 26 Chapter 26 "Bear with it for a while."
Kai looked a little helpless, he even subconsciously stretched out his hand, as if wanting to catch the little girl who was rushing towards him.
Yet Camus caught her at the last moment.
"You're not a child anymore!"
The blood mage said unhappily.
He grasped the girl's slender wrist with one hand, the temperature of his palm as hot as an iron.
"If there are any abnormal reactions, I can know it early-"
Then he pulled her over and said, "I've been enduring this taste all afternoon. I haven't said anything, and you just need to drink it."
"'And I just have to drink it'?"
Su Cheng murmured, "That sounds like a piece of cake. Besides, aren't you asking me to steal from the Vatican? What if I drink this stuff and end up vomiting and having diarrhea in the temple?"
"What?" Camus looked pissed off. "...Are you really a magician? This is potion, not tomato soup. It won't have that kind of unusual reaction!"
"Hahahaha," Sasha laughed beside him. "You know what? If it were tomato soup, he'd probably make something like that."
Camus gritted his teeth and said, "No such thing. Last time it was just an accident. I mixed up the cooking seasoning and the magic potion—"
Su Cheng looked at them in horror.
Kai sighed, "I'll be back later."
"Look!" Su Cheng came back to his senses, "Camus! Even the captain can't stand the smell you make!"
Camus sneered, "It's not like he's cursed, or signed a contract with a cursed person to help her break the curse, so he doesn't need to endure this!"
Kai raised his hand and rubbed his eyebrows, as if he had a headache because of their noise.
His cold golden eyes looked at someone with an indignant expression. "I just wanted to go out and buy some wine and bring you some sweets. What do you want to eat?"
Su Cheng was about to curse, but he lost his temper. "There's a shop called 'Mrs. Lina's Candy Box' on the south street. Have you noticed it?"
The head of the group nodded in understanding. "I know Camus really likes her Black Forest cake and has bought it several times. But I think it's a bit—"
The blood mage coughed, "The medicine is getting cold."
Su Cheng was surprised. "The cherry wine used to make the cake is so sweet that my cousins think it's too sweet!"
She paused and said, "But I think it's pretty good. I didn't expect that we would have the same interests. It's really fate!"
Camus's eyes were a little subtle, "...drink the medicine first."
Su Cheng: “?”
This person really won't tolerate anything! He won't tolerate anything sugary or oily!
I don't know when the team leader left.
The cold-blooded blood mage pressed her against the edge of the table and put the glass bottle of potion directly to her mouth.
Su Cheng almost fainted from the fumes and felt like his head was about to split open. He held his breath and hugged the bottle, ready to die.
The first bite nearly killed her.
The sour and bitter taste exploded in the mouth, and the hot liquid tore at the throat and burned all the way to the stomach.
She felt her stomach cramping and surging like a raging sea.
That big mouthful of medicine seemed to be about to come back up soon.
Su Cheng closed his eyes and tried hard to suppress the feeling.
After she swallowed it completely, she wanted to say something, but she didn't want to savor the feeling in her mouth, so she simply tilted her head back and continued to drink the medicine.
This big bottle cannot be finished in just a few gulps.
Su Cheng felt that his sense of taste and smell seemed to be disappearing, and the whole world was filled with unimaginable sour and bitter tastes, as well as a stench like a rotting corpse.
...I feel like vomiting even more.
"Bear with it for a moment."
Camus covered her mouth with one hand, with his palm resting just below the tip of her nose, his thumb pressing against her cheekbone, his hot palm pressing tightly against her wet lips.
Her eyes were red, and she sobbed and shook her head. A little dark red medicine remained at the corner of her lips, and now it flowed down through the man's fingers.
A trickle of blood slid across the girl's snow-white neck.
There seemed to be a lingering smell of some material in his palm.
The bitter and moist plant scent mixed with the fishy smell of the medicine ferments and rolls together in the mouth.
The smell irritated her so much that her eyes hurt, and her eyeballs felt like they were being roasted on fire, and tears rolled down uncontrollably.
Su Cheng: “…”
In fact, she didn't want to cry at all, and she wasn't sad. It was just a purely physiological reaction because the smell was too strong.
The big hand pressing on her face stiffened for a moment.
Tears slid across the slender fingers, landing on the back of his hand and wrist, diluting the remaining traces of the medicine.
Camus looked down at her, as if he wanted to say something, then frowned and gently wiped his wrist with his other hand.
Then put the fingertips dipped in the medicine to your mouth.
He licked it once, and then his expression changed.
Camus: “…………”
He lowered his eyes to meet the girl's, which were filled with accusation and anger. "I'm sorry, I really didn't expect it to taste so bad."
Su Cheng was almost mad at him, but he couldn't say anything, so he could only try to kill him with his eyes.
The Blood Mage sighed, probably to express his apology, and raised his hand to pat her on the back.
The man's large palm stroked her spine slowly and forcefully. "But no matter what, you can't vomit again, otherwise it will all be in vain."
Su Cheng stared at him silently.
"...I take it back, you're pretty strong," he said with difficulty, "Maybe you really were hurt last time."
"Wow," Sasha came closer in surprise, "How bad does this medicine taste?"
He seemed surprised that Camus could say such a thing, and simply snatched the glass bottle from Su Cheng's hand.
All the potions in the bottle were drunk, but there were still some residues at the bottom of the bottle. The vampire simply turned the bottle upside down and let the residue fall into his palm.
He took a piece and put it in his mouth.
Sasha: “?”
Sasha: “Ugh—”
His eyes seemed to have gotten even redder. "What the hell? I thought you liked her!"
The vampires' sense of taste is different from that of humans. Many monster bloods that are too fishy for humans are like fine wine to them.
It can be said that they are much better at tolerating bad tastes than humans.
Even so, he seemed to be stimulated.
Su Cheng finally recovered and held Camus' wrist, signaling him to let go. "...Really? I can't believe he hasn't tasted it!"
The blond man closed his eyes. "This isn't cooking, why should I taste it?"
Su Cheng shook his head and simply collapsed back on the table.
"...The potions I made before this were almost tasteless."
Camus wiped his hands nearby. "I thought it was about the same as water this time, just that the smell was more unbearable. Sorry, but how are you feeling?"
Su Cheng heard the sound of an hourglass flipping next to him.
She didn't have time to think about anything else, just staring blankly at the ceiling. "I feel like I'm alive, but it also feels like I've been gone for a long time. This is probably what it means to be alive even after death."
The Blood Mage glanced at her and said, "The leader is back with the cake."
Su Cheng pretended to be dead on the spot.
She sat up straight away. "Where is it? Is it time for dessert?"
"Oh, no," Camus said calmly, "it's just that the smell made me dizzy and I had hallucinations."
Su Cheng looked at him for a few seconds, then lay back down silently. "Then I can also answer you. I am not feeling well."
"That's not what I'm asking," Camus looked at her, "is there any difference between your magic and your curse?"
Su Cheng slowly shook his head, "No, or maybe I was too desperate and angry to feel anything else."
Camus had a headache. "Then try to feel it."
Su Cheng was also trying to do the same. "...Apart from dizziness and nausea, there seems to be nothing else. Well, this must be stimulated by the smell."
The Blood Mage sighed beside her and finally decided to let her go for the time being.
"I have to say, I think it's quite a skill for you to be able to make the potion like that—"
A vampire's voice came from the side, "Your teacher will probably cry. This pot of shit soup is enough to ruin his reputation in the potion world."
“…This isn’t a finished recipe; I mixed it myself.”
"Yeah, that's why you're so good." Sasha sighed, "I just tasted a little bit, and I felt like killing you."
"No, you just want to kill someone all the time," Camus said coldly. "How's the temple? Is he still there?"
"I haven't left yet," the vampire said in a relaxed tone, "I can sense it from afar...ah, that disgusting aura, it's almost as strong as your top-grade potion."
They then discussed the layout of the Amber City Temple, the guard patrol shifts, the location of the warehouse where the medicinal materials were stored, as well as the infiltration route and escape direction.
Various possible situations are also listed.
"How about I lure him out?" Sasha concluded, "Otherwise he'll be in trouble in there."
He was referring, of course, to the Archbishop.
Camus shook his head slightly. "If he doesn't want to—"
The door to the conference room was pushed open.
A strong, sweet smell of alcohol dispelled the stench in the room.
"...What happened?" Kai looked at the new member lying on the table.
Su Cheng spread his arms, "Here lies a poor soul who was murdered by a third-rate pharmacist. Before she could even enjoy her happy life, she was murdered by the murderer—"
Kai: "I bought you cherry wine and cake."
"—Now she's going to enjoy her happy life!"
Su Cheng suddenly jumped up, tilted his head to look at the hourglass, and after making sure that all the time had flown out, he rushed over like a vicious dog pouncing on its prey.
She quickly tore the wrapper off, popped a few candied cherries into her mouth, and then tried to unscrew the cap from the bottle.
It didn't turn.
With an expressionless face, she pinched a wind blade and directly cut off the neck of the bottle, then raised her head and drank it all in one gulp. She stopped after finishing half of the bottle, and did not use a knife and fork, but directly picked up a spoon to eat the cake.
Kai silently withdrew his outstretched hand, "Just how bad is it?"
He spoke with some curiosity, and under the silent gaze of the other two members, he walked to the extinguished crucible and picked up the spoon with the remaining medicine.
Then he lowered his head and took a bite.
Kai: “…………”
He coughed, quickly unscrewed another bottle of cherry wine, threw away the crushed bottle cap, and started drinking without hesitation.
After the whole bottle was empty, Kai couldn't help but look at Camus: "Did you do this on purpose?"
The blond man closed his eyes. "No, and I don't want to answer any more questions about this."
“Camus?”
Suddenly, a voice called out from behind.
He turned around and saw the girl at the table holding up a spoon, her face covered with cream and chocolate chips.
"Would you like a piece? I can't finish it myself anyway. Uh, I haven't even touched this half, so I'm definitely not drooling, but if you mind—"
Su Cheng pointed to the other side of the cake with his spoon.
The group leader bought a double-decker for ten and six, which she really couldn't finish.
Camus looked a little surprised, "...I don't mind."
He walked over and sat down, picked up another knife and fork, and cut a small piece of cake neatly. "Otherwise, I wouldn't be willing to be a mercenary."
Su Cheng nodded and continued eating.
The cakes here are delicate and silky with just the right amount of refreshing fruity flavor. The rich and dense taste gradually overwhelms the sourness and bitterness.
Finally, a hint of happiness appeared on her face.
When he turned around, he found the blood mage staring at him.
Su Cheng: "...I know what I look like. I will wipe my mouth after eating."
Camus had already finished the cake, and his lips were still clean. Hearing this, he put down his knife and fork and stood up.
He looked at the vampire next to him who looked like he was watching a show, and said, "Let's go."
After saying that, he went out.
Sasha shrugged and walked briskly towards the door. When she passed by Su Cheng, she saw her confused look and suddenly couldn't help laughing.
"Eat slowly, dear—"
The silver-haired young man leaned closer and wiped away a bit of icing on her face. "The next batch shouldn't be so unpalatable."
Su Cheng: “?”
He smirked, brought his finger to his lips, and licked the tip of his tongue, "...Tsk, this is too sweet."
Su Cheng was still thinking about the next potion when he was suddenly attacked. He was speechless for a moment, "Wait--"
Sasha had slipped out quickly.
She jumped up, "What's wrong with them? Aren't they going to steal things from the temple again?"
"……yes."
The captain leaned across the table, holding a newly opened bottle of wine in one hand and a huge sword in the other, sitting with his legs crossed, looking quite handsome.
On his exposed shoulders and arms, the strong and muscular muscles bulged clearly, and were stretched into beautiful arcs as he drank.
Those sharp golden eyes showed a hint of drunken warmth, and the dark vertical pupils shrank slightly, seeming to become a little rounder.
"They're just going to the temple." Kai looked at her. "Camus originally wanted you and Sasha to go, but now it seems he's decided to go instead of you."
Su Cheng was stunned, "Why?"
"…a way to possibly apologize?"
