Chapter 30: Change of Generations, Getting on the Right Track
Mu Sen saw that if he didn't act quickly, he would have no chance. Anyone here could kill Qiqi, but he didn't know whether Wan Ming and Yue Huainan who came were here to save Qiqi or to kill her. He couldn't take the risk of leaving the opportunity to wipe out the roots of the problem at his fingertips.
No one can stop someone from killing someone on public land, but anyone can also choose to get involved.
Mu Sen drew out the sword he usually carried from his waist, raised his hand and slashed at Qiqi in the blink of an eye. Yue Chi, who was standing in front, reacted faster and pushed Qiqi away, but Mu Sen slashed a deep and long scar on his shoulder.
Wan Ming wanted to wait and see what would happen, but the situation unfolded too quickly, and he was too slow to intervene. Before Yue Huainan could dismount, he saw Yue Chi fell to the ground and hurled a row of poison darts at Mu Sen. Mu Sen parried, but was still struck by several. Mu Nian stood guard at his side, and everyone paused in the standoff, each protecting their own people.
Yue Huainan pushed Qiqi away and carried Yue Chi a few meters away. At this moment, he only had eyes for Yue Chi. He didn't care what others thought of his unethical feelings for Yue Chi. He tore off Yue Chi's clothes, took out the tribe's wound medicine and began to clean Yue Chi's wounds. Seeing the skin and bones, Yue Huainan wanted to rush over and take Mu Sen's life immediately.
Yue Chi lost too much blood and his consciousness began to blur. He must have thought he was going to die. He pulled Yue Huainan's neck and said weakly, "Yue Huainan, I don't want to be your son in the next life. Never again."
After saying this, she fell exhausted into Yue Huainan's arms and said in a daze, "Help me kill him, Yue Huainan, I beg you to help me kill him. Wan'er is dead, and I will die too. If you really want me to forgive you, help me kill Mu Sen, kill him..."
Yue Huainan endured the pain and carefully wrapped Yue Chi's body.
Wan Ming stopped Qi Qi from passing through. The remaining guards arrested Liang Sheng and Yan Yan. Mu Sen sat on the ground, using his internal energy to force out the poison. He angrily ordered Mu Nian, "Kill him, kill that bastard!" Mu Nian and Qi Qi confronted each other. The wound on his shoulder still hurt, but his heart ached even more. However, this pain was caused by Mu Sen. Wan Ming turned his sword from Qi Qi to Mu Nian and said, "I seem to be the only one uninjured among you. If anyone is not afraid of death, you can ask my sword first."
Mu Nian thought of Wan'er, a weak woman who was willing to die for him, whom Mu Sen called a wicked son. However, he became feared by everyone in the Mu Yan tribe after Mu Sen's death, and could not find anyone who treated him sincerely.
He has everything that Qiqi doesn't have, but he will never get the one thing that Qiqi has that he has always dreamed of - sincerity.
Seeing that Mu Nian was unmoved, Mu Sen staggered to his feet and slapped Mu Nian in the face. Although Mu Nian was humiliated, he was still struggling whether to resist.
Mu Sen pointed his knife at Wan Ming, and the two men started fighting with swords and knives. Wan Ming kicked Qi Qi aside and had someone tied her up, while Mu Nian glared at Qi Qi.
After a few defensive rounds with Mu Sen, Wan Ming retreated to Dao Qiqi's side, engaging him in a game of chicken-and-egg. Yue Huainan secured Yue Chi's position and seized the opportunity to fire a deadly poison dart into Mu Sen's back. Mu Sen retreated in pain to Mu Nian's side, unceremoniously charging his guards. Yue Huainan also engaged his men in a fight with Mu Sen's men.
After a fierce fight, neither side gained any advantage, some were killed and some were injured. Mu Sen quietly hid behind the horse and shot an arrow at Yue Huainan. Wan Ming flew forward and blocked the most deadly part of the force for Yue Huainan with a sword, leaving Yue Huainan with only minor injuries.
Wanming and Yue Huainan looked at each other and prepared to attack together. Everyone was staring at Mu Sen, only Qiqi was looking at Mu Nian. Mu Nian took out his long knife and raised it with pain. When everyone thought that the father and son would fight to the death, Mu Nian stabbed Mu Sen's body from behind with an expressionless face.
Mu Sen's eyes were bloodshot. He had never imagined that he would die today, nor that Mu Nian would dare to kill him in public! Mu Sen fell to the ground with his eyes wide open in disbelief. The remaining guards could not escape Mu Nian's ruthless hands, and none of them survived.
Covered in blood, the cold-blooded and ruthless Mu Nian looked like a monster that had just crawled out of hell. Yanyan was so scared that she was trembling all over, and the smell of blood made her vomit repeatedly.
Wanming and Yue Huainan waited for their chance to strike. Mu Nian calmly put away his knife with bloodshot eyes. He glanced at Qiqi and said coldly, "The Huainan family, have you paid off what you owe them?"
Yue Huainan knew that Mu Nian was talking about Mu Sen injuring Yue Chi and the incident where he was shot by an arrow.
Yue Huainan collected the dart and said, "Young Master, don't be harsh and don't talk too much. I have settled my account."
Mu Nian turned to look at Wan Ming. Wan Ming had seen a lot of things with Wen Shi. He met Mu Nian's gaze calmly and asked, "What's the reason for Guard Wan Ming to come here? Could it be related to that illegitimate child?"
The illegitimate child of course refers to Qiqi. Qiqi looked at Wanming with her hands and feet tied, her heart filled with anger.
Wan Mingdao said, "Yes, this person has some connection with a distinguished guest of our clan. The chief clan leader asked me to take him back for investigation."
Mu Nian hesitated for a moment, then mounted his horse. "Today I'll do the chief a favor and hand that man over to him. If I see him again in the future, I won't show mercy. Great Guard Wan Ming, please go back and tell Wen Shi that I've repaid Mu Sen's debt through this man. From now on, when interacting with each other, please do your duty and live in harmony for common development and prosperity."
Wan Ming said, "What the Patriarch said is true. I will definitely convey it to you."
Mu Nian rode his white horse alone eastward and disappeared in the distant smoke.
Yue Huainan carried Yue Chi onto the horse. He had promised Wen Shi that he would not interfere with Qiqi's fate. He said to Wan Ming, "Great Guard, what happened a few days ago has nothing to do with me. What the Great Patriarch wants to do or not has nothing to do with me, Yue Huainan. With Mu Sen and the new Great Patriarch taking the throne, it is imperative that all tribes live in peace and prosperity. I, Yue, will take my leave first."
Wan Ming bowed and said, "Wan Ming knows what the Great Patriarch means. The Great Patriarch will not see you off."
The vast plain was shrouded in mist and waves. Now there were only Qiqi and his two companions and a team of guards brought by Wanming.
"Tie them up, find a carriage, and take them back to Snowy Night City."
Wen Ranqi woke up in the afternoon. He had slept more soundly than usual last night, sleeping through the entire night without waking up. Even his dreams were pleasant. The chains on his hands and feet had been removed.
After getting up, washing, and changing his clothes, the marble fell from his arms and hit the ground, gleaming faintly. The shackles were removed, making it easier for him to walk. Holding the glowing marble, Wen Ranqi felt it was warm instead of cold. He wondered, "Did Wen Shi change her mind and return the thing to him? But this thing can actually glow?"
"Great Patriarch, the young master just woke up and is washing up."
Upon hearing the voice, Wen Ranqi hid Yunshi in his arms, put on his clothes and sat on a chair. The maids were putting his hair up and a crown on him.
Wen Ranqi watched Wen Shi approach step by step in the mirror, asked for a wooden comb from the maid, and stood behind him.
Wen Shi suddenly picked up the crown from the table and became unexpectedly gentle. He said, "When you were ten years old, you didn't wear a crown, but you always had trouble combing your hair. You couldn't find Wen Yuhan, so you came to me, holding a rope and asking me to tie your hair. But your hair wasn't this long."
Wen Ranqi rolled her eyes, not daring to move, listening to Wen Shi talking and combing his hair. After combing his hair, Wen Shi went to the yard. The vegetables he planted were so early that they could be picked to make a bowl of noodles.
"The soil in this yard is really fertile. Your vegetables are growing better than those in the vegetable farm." Wen Shi held a watering can and watered the vegetables as gracefully as if they were flowers. Wen Ranqi squatted in front of his vegetable garden. Wen Shi's volatile attitude made him unable to guess what Wen Shi was doing.
Wen Ranqi asked, "Why did you return the marble to me? Then, I took a jade pendant, why didn't you give it to me as well?" Wen Shi said, "I gave it away. I saw you slept soundly with the marble, so I'll keep it with you. It's just a decoration in my study, and you might need it more."
Wen Ranqi slept really soundly at night. It seemed as if all the troubles and bad moods accumulated in his heart were dissolved by a warm breath in his heart. When he woke up, he felt much more relaxed and energetic.
Wen Ranqi said, "Then can you let me out? I will hide my identity and not let anyone know that I am still alive. I promise that after I get out, no one can find me, let alone recognize me."
Wen Shi walked to the threshold, stopped, and replied, "You can do whatever you want, but you are not allowed to leave this place."
Wen Ranqi gnashed his teeth, his eyebrows and eyes were full of surprise, and he had a lot of suffering in his heart.
The cold air in the carriage intensified, and the cold wind coming in from outside became even stronger. Liang Yanyan snored in the cold.
"Stop, let's stop here." Wanming waved outside the carriage and the horses stopped. Two people came and drove Qiqi and the other two out of the carriage. There was still snow at their feet that had not melted yet. They had arrived in the north.
Wan Ming pulled out a jade pendant from his bosom, threw it into Qiqi's hand, and said, "This is yours, hold it well. I don't know what Wen Ranqi likes about you, but I can't live without you."
Qiqi was holding the jade pendant, the Qilin jade pendant he had given to Wen Ranqi. He asked, "How is my master?"
Wan Ming looked at it disdainfully and threw three more bundles of blankets from his horse's back to Liang Sheng to catch. He said, "That's great. It's even better without you. When I heard that you were dead, I wanted to commit suicide sooner or later. I wished I could cut my own throat with a sword and die with you."
Qiqi sighed in her heart, realizing that her master loved her even more deeply than he had imagined.
"Go north. Don't let me see you in the south or other places. This is the last kindness the Great Patriarch shows you. And you," Wan Ming pointed at Qiqi and said, "next time you won't have the chance to ask anyone for mercy. I don't care whether you live or die, but Wen Ranqi can't die. Let this be my kindness to you. Don't think that a toad wants to eat swan meat. If I were you, I would practice martial arts well and rescue the people from the Great Patriarch's hands. What can you give him now that you have rescued him? Eat coarse food with you. You even protected him and yet you say you like him so loudly."
Wanming took his men back to the south. Qiqi was awakened by Wanming's words. What's the point of rescuing him now? It would be easy for Wen Shi to catch them. Only he could protect his master if he was strong enough. No one dared to snatch people away from him.
Liang Sheng untied the blanket, ate a few mouthfuls of snow on the leaves, and put a blanket on Yanyan and Qiqi. They didn’t know how to keep going to where they were going.
