Chapter 42 I Want to Go Home and Have Dinner with You
Although Lu Qingqing was talking about her boss, Shi Yang seemed to be projecting herself onto the situation. She seemed to see Ji Peiheng cheating on her with another woman one day in the future, and she would go to Ji's company to make a scene and fight with that woman.
They lost their dignity, their self-respect, and everything else.
You become someone who is no longer yourself.
That's terrifying!
The deer gently said, "Hey, are you even listening to me?"
Shi Yang snapped out of her daze and asked, "Do all men cheat?"
"I feel like there isn't a single good man!" Lu spat softly. "They're all animals who can't control their lower bodies!"
Lu Qingqing thought of something and said, "Oh right, and there's your Ji Peiheng. It's not just that men are rich, but they're also young and good-looking. That's like having a double buff. It's too dangerous."
Her unintentional remark struck a chord with Shi Yang at that moment.
Shi Yang became even more irritable.
Lu Qingqing felt increasingly threatened as she spoke: "Let me tell you, you can't trust Ji Peiheng too much. With his status and power, countless women would throw themselves at him with the flick of his finger. You have to be vigilant at all times."
Shi Yang absentmindedly plucked the fur from the plush pillow in her arms. The pillow was pitifully damaged, with a bald patch on its head.
She can accept a loveless marriage, but she cannot accept her husband's infidelity during the marriage; it would make her feel disgusted.
Besides, both parties maintaining their integrity is the greatest respect they can show each other.
"Madam, dinner is ready."
Aunt Cui's voice came through.
Shi Yang responded, hung up the phone, and went downstairs.
Upon seeing the two sets of bowls and chopsticks on the table, one might ask, "Who are these for?"
Aunt Cui covered her mouth and laughed: "Of course it's for the gentleman, who else would we save it for?"
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a noise at the door.
The air was getting cooler. Ji Peiheng, dressed in a black trench coat that reached his knees, entered the entrance hall. The coat was of excellent quality and flowed gracefully, gently swaying as he walked, bringing in a gust of cool air from outside.
Why are you back so early today?
This is the first time in over half a month that he has returned on time.
Ji Peiheng hung his coat on the hanger and walked towards her, saying in a very natural tone, "I'm back to have dinner with you."
Shi Yang felt uncomfortable thinking about his possible infidelity and said arrogantly, "It's just a meal, why does he need someone to accompany him?"
Aunt Cui served them two bowls of soup and said with a smile, "Madam, you're just saying that, aren't you? These past two weeks, when the master has been coming home late, you've clearly lost your appetite."
"No, I didn't," Shi Yang immediately retorted. "I had a poor appetite because of allergies."
A hint of red creeping up her earlobe betrayed her unease.
How could Aunt Cui talk such nonsense?
They're both adults, yet she talks like she can't live without him.
Ji Peiheng smiled knowingly and pressed her down into a chair: "I wanted to have dinner with you, okay?"
The more he said that, the more Shi Yang wanted to explain: "I really didn't, I understand you're busy with work..."
She met his smiling, almond-shaped eyes. His eyes seemed to say, "I understand, I understand, no need to explain."
Shi Yang felt that the more he spoke, the more obvious it became.
"Fine, believe it or not."
She simply stopped talking and lowered her head to drink her soup to cover up her embarrassment.
The soup was freshly served and still steaming. She drank it quickly, the scalding liquid flowing into her mouth, burning like fire, the stinging sensation spreading from the tip of her tongue to her throat.
He loosened his grip, and the soup bowl crashed onto the table, spilling most of it. Some of it even splashed onto his clothes.
Her face contorted in pain.
Ji Peiheng's smile vanished, and his expression darkened slightly: "Are you alright?"
Shi Yangtang's tears welled up as she looked at him with a sorrowful expression.
What do you think?
My tongue was burned, and it had a strange, rough feeling.
Faced with a table full of delicious food, she had no appetite: "I'm full."
Aunt Cui: "No, Madam, you haven't been eating properly lately, your health will suffer."
As she stood up, Ji Peiheng grabbed her wrist.
Under her bewildered gaze, Ji Peiheng picked up the soup bowl, blew on it to make sure it wasn't too hot, then scooped up a small spoonful and held it to her lips: "Silly girl, I'll feed you."
His voice was gentle and indulgent, as if he were coaxing a child who was not eating properly to eat.
Shi Yang opened her mouth and put the spoon in her mouth.
She thought about not drinking anymore, but Ji Peiheng would always put it to her lips: "Sweetie, just one last sip."
His voice was soft and gentle.
He fed her spoonful by spoonful, and before she knew it, the bowl was empty.
He took out a tissue and carefully wiped his lips, revealing his pink lips.
His gaze fell on the lingering red rash on her face, and a dark look immediately appeared in his eyes: "Have you been taking your medicine on time lately?"
Shi Yang did not take his medicine on time.
The medicine was too bitter; she would drink it when she remembered, and not drink it when she didn't.
Anyway, it will probably go away on its own in a few more days.
Shi Yang didn't dare meet his gaze directly, and looked away: "I drank it."
He pressed his fingertips against her cheek, leaving a small indentation: "Then why hasn't it gone down yet?"
What was supposed to be a normal question, Shi Yang interpreted differently from that sentence.
What did he mean by that? Did he think she was ugly?
Is that his reason for cheating?
Shi Yang's face immediately turned cold, and she slapped his hand away: "You don't like it? I'm ugly. I'm willing."
Ji Peiheng raised an eyebrow, seemingly not understanding why she could turn on him so suddenly.
"Why are you angry?"
Shi Yang sneered inwardly.
What do you think? You've already cheated on me, so why should I laugh?
She was beautiful; when she had a cold expression, her lips were pursed straight, her jawline was taut, and her entire face was shrouded in frost, like an ice queen. The few red rashes on her face couldn't hide her radiance at all.
Ji Peiheng didn't think much of it, assuming that girls love beauty and don't like others talking about their appearance.
He pulled her into his arms, his strong hand patting her back reassuringly: "Who said I didn't like you? You're beautiful even when you're ugly."
Shi Yang took the opportunity to sniff him; he didn't smell of any other woman.
His voice was sincere, and he soothed her with great patience.
Her heart skipped a beat. Could she have misunderstood? It wasn't a big deal if he accidentally picked up a woman's perfume while out for work or socializing.
Is she overthinking it?
"Aunt Cui, bring over Madam's medicine."
Ji Peiheng lifted her onto the sofa and gently applied the ointment to her cheeks with a cotton ball.
After applying the ointment, he picked up his oral medication and noticed a few extra pills. His brow furrowed instantly: "Why did I skip two doses?"
Shi Yang was surprised that he actually remembered her medication schedule, and that he had even noticed when she missed a couple of meals.
She denied it, giving a vague answer: "I drank quite a lot, um... maybe you remembered wrong."
Ji Peiheng continued to press, only saying, "I will supervise you to take your medicine from now on. If I'm not around, I will video call you."
Shi Yang frowned and drank the medicine under his gaze.
After finishing her drink, she sat on the sofa eating the fruit that Aunt Cui had cut up, but her eyes kept glancing at the man beside her.
It must be said that he is exceptionally good-looking, comes from a good family, and has treated her quite well during their marriage. He can be considered a perfect husband.
As Lu Qingqing said, men are very good at hiding their true feelings. Could it be that she really misjudged him, knowing only his appearance but not his heart?
He leaned back on the sofa, looking down at his phone, his fingertips tapping the screen repeatedly without moving, as if he was constantly sending WeChat messages to someone.
Shi Yang chewed on the apple absentmindedly, her heart pounding with anxiety.
