Chapter 118 A Fire That Might Be Targeted at Her
Shi Yang was brought back to his senses by the loud shout.
She watched helplessly as the flames spread across those precious designs, her heart bleeding.
But they also clearly understood that there was no way to save him.
Going there would have been suicide.
Xie Ran also came up and helped her downstairs, one on each side.
Downstairs, Wen Wanwan was almost crying in fear: "Sister-in-law, are you alright?"
Shi Yang wiped away the tears on her face: "I'm fine."
Twenty minutes later, all the guests had been evacuated.
Ten minutes later, the fire was completely extinguished by the arriving firefighters.
Only Shi Yang, Wen Huai'an and his sister, Xie Ran, Xiao Yan, and a few staff members remained in the entire exhibition hall.
Xiao Yan was devastated and looked anxiously towards the second floor.
"Shi Yang!"
A man's anxious call came from the doorway. A tall, imposing man rushed over, his eyes fixed on Shi Yang sitting in the chair. He pulled her up and hugged her tightly.
Sensing his intense anxiety, Shi Yang wrapped her arms around his waist and gently patted him to reassure him: "I'm fine."
Ji Peiheng pressed down on her shoulders and spun her around.
Xie Ran wiped the dust off his clothes with a tissue: "Don't worry, brother, we've taken good care of your wife, she'll be fine."
Once he was sure she was alright, Ji Peiheng's heart sank back into his stomach. He put his arm around her and said, "Let's go back first. I'll have someone come and handle the rest."
Shi Yang nodded; that was the only way.
...
The cause of the fire was soon found: a guest had a nicotine craving and was smoking by the window. The cigarette ash fell on the curtains, causing the accident.
Fortunately, the fire was brought under control in time, and there were not many guests gathered on the second floor at the time, so there were no casualties.
However, damage to the exhibits was unavoidable.
Shi Yang stood in front of the exhibits that had been burned down to their remnants, deep in thought.
Xiao Yan tried her best to salvage some of the exhibits and moved them out with the staff.
Seeing Shi Yang standing there in a daze, she thought she was upset and felt even more guilty: "Sister, I'm sorry, I messed up the exhibition, I will take responsibility."
Shi Yang didn't speak, his gaze fixed on the charred wall.
Looking at the paintings she was looking at, Xiao Yan felt even more heartbroken, and tears welled up in her eyes: "Sister, these are your design works, I... I'm really sorry."
"It's none of your business. You can't search guests who carry lighters. I'm just wondering why most of the items burned were my designs?"
Xiao Yan was taken aback by the casual words, and then turned to look around.
That's really true!
Although many of the damaged items were rare and unique, the most damaged and severe ones were all signed by Shi Yang.
Yang noticed this problem as soon as she arrived today. Standing there, staring at the designs that had been burned to charcoal, she inexplicably felt hatred from the remaining ashes.
She wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, although her painting was indeed placed right next to the curtains.
It could be a coincidence.
But her heart was always uneasy; she even felt that this fire was aimed at her.
But as for whether she has any enemies recently, after thinking about the guests who came and went yesterday, there aren't any.
She didn't even know the guest who was smoking.
Xiao Yan said cautiously, "Sister, could it be that you're overthinking it?"
Shi Yang said, "Maybe I'm just overthinking it."
She patted Xiaoyan on the shoulder to comfort her: "Go home and rest well these few days, don't think too much."
That evening, after Ji Peiheng returned home, Shi Yang asked, "Do you know Liang Jin?"
"Who?" Ji Peiheng loosened his tie with his knuckles and poured himself a glass of water.
“We’re from the same high school, in the same year as you.”
Ji Peiheng raised an eyebrow and thought about it seriously for a moment: "Never heard of it."
Shi Yang thought about it and realized it made sense. With so many people in a school, how could anyone possibly remember everyone?
Ji Peiheng noticed that she seemed preoccupied. He changed into his pajamas and sat down, naturally pulling her onto his lap and encircling her: "What's wrong? Is there something wrong with this person?"
"It's nothing, I just ran into him at the alumni reunion that day and we exchanged greetings."
Shi Yang suddenly felt the air around him grow colder.
Ji Peiheng glanced at her, a half-smile on his face, and asked, "Handsome?"
Shi Yang immediately said, "Not handsome at all, not even a fraction as handsome as you."
Ji Peiheng's expression immediately brightened: "That's more like it. Stay away from those ugly things."
Shi Yang has been busy with the exhibition these past two days and is completely exhausted.
I didn't want to move at all while lying in bed. Luckily, it was the weekend, so I immediately made an appointment with Lu Qingqing to have a physical therapy spa tomorrow.
The next day, she played with Naifu for a while before going to find Lu Qingqing.
When I picked her up, I was a little surprised: "Why do I feel like you've been so free lately? With your dedication before, were you always editing and revising manuscripts on weekends? How come you're available whenever I call you now?"
Lu Qingqing seemed somewhat absent-minded.
Shi Yang repeated it again before she finally came to her senses.
Shi Yang's suspicious gaze lingered around her. She had been busy with curating the exhibition lately and hadn't contacted Lu Qingqing much: "Have you run into something lately?"
Lu paused for a moment, then changed to a cheerful and relaxed tone: "I've had a cold and haven't been to work lately, and I haven't been feeling well either. What could possibly happen to me?"
"Yeah?"
Lu Qingqing felt flustered under her gaze and quickly changed the subject: "Hey, hurry up and drive, I want to call a handsome male masseur to give me a good massage later, preferably the younger, more masculine type."
They arrived at a private physiotherapy center, a place chosen by Shi Yang.
This was recommended to her by Wen Wanwan; the environment and service are top-notch.
As for why Wen Wanwan didn't come, she was in a hurry to pick up her car.
After changing their clothes, they followed the waiter to their respective treatment rooms.
The deer glanced casually ahead, its eyes widening as if it had seen a ghost, like a cat with its tail sticking out. It hurriedly scurried to the side.
Under Shi Yang's gaze, she then pushed open the door of a private room she was passing by, and rushed in before the waiter could stop her.
At the same time, Meng Yaozhu came over and nodded slightly to Shi Yang as a greeting.
After taking two steps, Meng Yaozhu stopped: "Miss Shi."
Shi Yang turned to look at him.
"Miss Shi came alone?"
Shi Yang looked at him, glancing out of the corner of her eye at the slightly ajar door of the private room, and hummed in response.
Upon hearing this, Meng Yaozhu said nothing more and left.
If Shi Yang still can't see what's going on between them, then he's truly a fool.
Inside the private room, Lu apologized profusely to the guests before coming out.
He glanced around, still shaken, and asked, "Are they gone?"
"They're gone."
"That's fine, that's fine."
Shi Yang said leisurely, "Lu Qingqing, aren't you going to explain?"
