Chapter 33 You're my husband, what wouldn't I dare to do?
The enormous night sky was like a wet, squeezing sponge, pressing heavily on the heavens.
The dim streetlights bathed the entire city in a hazy, warm light.
As the chilly autumn arrives, the cicadas have stopped chirping in the grass, and the only sound on the roadside is the occasional whizz of passing vehicles.
Shi Yang slowly walked forward.
After walking for a while, she suddenly remembered Liao Nan: "Assistant Liao, I'll go back by myself in a bit, you go back first."
There was no response from behind.
Shi Yang turned around to check if Liao Nan was still there.
She didn't see Liao Nan, but she did see another figure following not far behind her, tall and elegant, with a lazy look in his eyes.
She was taken aback: "When did you arrive?"
“You’re too engrossed.” Ji Peiheng walked steadily toward her and walked beside her.
She looked back, but Liao Nan was no longer there.
Ji Peiheng saw what she was thinking and flicked her smooth, full forehead with his long finger: "Making my subordinate stay up all night to walk with you is a waste of resources, don't you understand?"
Shi Yang covered his forehead and said sullenly, "I just told him to go back first."
After saying that, she seemed to remember something and said to the man with a half-smile, "Assistant Liao was wasting my time accompanying me, but what about you, President Ji? You've condescended to accompany me for a walk, isn't that an even greater waste of your talents?"
Ji Peiheng nodded approvingly: "Not bad, you have a good sense of self-awareness."
This person is so narcissistic...
Shi Yang rolled her eyes at him: "Then you should go back quickly, don't waste your time."
Ji Peiheng's gaze fell on the endless road ahead, a smile playing on his lips, looking quite pleased with himself: "Let's make an exception today, I'll just waste time with you."
She looked down at her feet, where their shadows were side by side, his shadow longer than hers, sometimes overlapping in an ambiguous way.
She deliberately took a few steps forward and made a few small gestures on his shadow's head.
It somehow made that tall and straight figure look even more adorable.
Ji Peiheng pretended not to see it.
Shi Yang enjoyed it immensely.
They strolled aimlessly along the roadside, quietly.
Shi Yang strangely sensed a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
What's even more terrifying is that it's with Ji Peiheng.
"Shi Yang".
As they walked, Ji Peiheng suddenly called her name very seriously.
Um?
Shi Yang turned to look at him.
He put his hands in his pockets, staring intently at her: "Why are you afraid of the dark?"
Shi Yang turned around, her gaze fixed ahead, somewhat unfocused: "Isn't it normal for girls to be afraid of the dark?"
"But you..."
"I'm so tired, I can't walk anymore, let's go home." She changed the subject.
She knew what he wanted to ask.
She was more afraid of the dark than the average girl; she even needed a nightlight on by her bedside to feel safe while sleeping.
But there are some things she doesn't want to talk about.
Ji Peiheng didn't press further: "Let's go back."
Shi Yang turned around and saw that they had unknowingly walked a long way, and now they couldn't even see the car anymore.
She had only intended to get off and take a casual walk; she never imagined she would walk this far.
She asked Ji Peiheng, "Could Assistant Liao bring his car over to pick us up?"
Ji Peiheng glanced at her and said calmly, "Liao Nan has already gone back. Now we can only walk back ourselves."
Shi Yang's face fell; she really couldn't walk anymore.
"Or you could go back and bring your car to pick me up. I'll sit here and wait for you."
"No way," Ji Peiheng said in a low voice, "You can't make a fuss like that."
"But I really can't walk anymore..." Shi Yang followed behind reluctantly, took a few steps, squatted down and stopped walking.
Looking up at the tall man, a sly glint flashed in her eyes: "Or you can carry me on your back?"
The man looked down at her, his face backlit, his expression shrouded in darkness.
"Okay, okay, I was just kidding."
"OK."
Shi Yang froze as she stood up, looking at him in surprise.
Did he agree?
She was just joking; she didn't mean for him to actually carry it.
And I also felt that he would never agree.
Ji Peiheng squatted down with his back to her and said lazily, "Come on up."
Shi Yang blinked.
Ji Peiheng turned around and glanced at her, who was still in a daze: "You don't dare?"
This sparked Shi Yang's competitive spirit, and she nimbly climbed onto his back: "You're my husband, what's there to be afraid of?"
Ji Peiheng's lips curved into a smile, and his brow relaxed: "Good to know."
His shoulders were broad, and his steps were steady. Supported by his strong arms, Shi Yang felt a sense of security.
She nestled obediently against his back, able to hear his breathing. He smelled of cedar, a lovely fragrance, and she couldn't help but lean closer to sniff it.
They were very close, and his handsome profile was clearly visible. His high, straight eyebrows connected to his well-defined nose, and then to his thin lips, forming a smooth and elegant curve.
Why would such a handsome and noble man agree to a marriage that is so unfair to him?
Shi Yang was lost in thought.
At first, she thought he was going to keep her by his side to get revenge, but now it's not what she expected at all.
"What are you thinking about?"
A man's calm voice rang out.
She swung her feet back and forth, then buried her face in his neck and sniffed: "I was wondering why you smell so good?"
"Okay, when we get back tonight, I'll let you smell it properly in bed."
Men with a purpose quickened their pace.
I'm home.
Shi Yang was breathless from the kiss and involuntarily raised her head.
Just when she thought it was time to move on to the next step.
Ji Peiheng stopped and got off her.
With a long stride, he reached for the pills on the bedside table and handed her the cooled water: "Get up and take your medicine."
Shi Yang buried her head in the blanket: "I'm all better now, I don't need to eat anymore."
"No, I just heard you coughing."
Shi Yang said with a bitter expression, "It's so bitter."
Ji Peiheng insisted: "Good medicine tastes bitter."
Shi Yang decided to use gentleness to overcome strength. She crawled out from under the covers, sat in his lap, and kissed him.
"How about we don't drink it anymore?"
He didn't let her kiss him off the hook, taking a few bites before putting the medicine to her lips again.
Shi Yang pursed her lips in exasperation: "If I take my medicine today, don't touch me."
"OK."
She didn't believe he agreed so quickly.
But after she reluctantly finished drinking the medicine, Ji Peiheng actually got dressed and lay down.
Shi Yang looked at him in surprise.
Something's not right.
He seems to be very restrained lately, and hasn't touched her at all.
He said, "Tomorrow is a family dinner, and Mom called to tell us to come back."
"oh oh."
Shi Yang didn't take it to heart at all. She lay down, her mind wandering and making wild guesses about Ji Peiheng's recent ascetic behavior.
At this moment, Qin Lan's words came to mind at just the right time.
Could something really have happened to him?
As the saying goes, there is no land that cannot be plowed properly, only oxen that have been worked to death.
Could it be that the previous activities were too frequent and intense, and really exhausted him?
As his wife, isn't she obligated to help him improve his health?
