Chapter 48 Promise me you won't be sad anymore, okay?

The corridor lights cast shadows across his face, highlighting the sharp lines of his features, the defined angles of his face, and the upturned corners of his lips. The half of his face hidden in the shadows had cold, indifferent brows and deep eyes, and even the upturned corners of his lips exuded a sense of icy indifference.

Upon seeing it was him, her pupils contracted slightly, and she blurted out, "What are you doing here?"

However, before he could answer, she turned and left.

She hadn't walked more than a few steps when the man caught up with her, pulled her against the wall, and asked, looking down, "Where are we going?"

Shi Yang turned his head away and remained silent.

Ji Peiheng's long fingers stroked her face: "Are you angry?"

The moment she saw her, she thought of his affair with another woman. She was furious, but she tried her best not to show it: "You're overthinking it. I'm just here on a business trip."

Ji Peiheng's fingertips caressed her cheek, pressing down to create a small indentation, leaving a red mark on her face. His voice was unpredictable: "You just left without saying goodbye, heartless woman."

Shi Yang detected a hint of resentment in his tone and found it amusing: "Even if I greet you, President Ji wouldn't have time to care about me, would he? I won't tell you about this business trip, so as not to bother you."

Ji Peiheng stared at her icy face, seemingly oblivious to his sarcastic tone: "So, you're not angry?"

Shi Yang choked, feeling a surge of anger rising within her. She forced a smile and said, "Of course. You didn't do anything to me, why would I be angry?"

She pushed him away: "I have to go see my friends. Excuse me."

She wasn't so narcissistic as to think he suddenly appeared here just for her; he was probably on a business trip.

Shi Yang returned to his seat, holding his breath.

But then Xiao Yan stood up and exclaimed in surprise, "President Ji?"

Shi Yang immediately turned around and opened his eyes wide.

How did he get here?

With his broad shoulders and long legs, hands in his pockets, Ji Peiheng stood there casually and unrestrainedly, making him the most beautiful sight in the bar.

Xiao Yan's questioning gaze lingered between them: "What's going on here?"

"It was a chance encounter," Shi Yang said quickly.

"What a coincidence! Mr. Ji, please have a seat." Xiao Yan pulled out a chair for Ji Peiheng to sit down.

Jian Qinian sized up the person who had suddenly appeared, noting his extraordinary temperament and impressive aura, and asked, "Xiao Yang, who is this?"

Xiao Yang...

Ji Peiheng raised an eyebrow and scrutinized him.

Shi Yang glanced at Ji Peiheng and introduced him, "This is President Ji of the Ji Group, and also the client of one of my projects."

"Oh, it's Mr. Ji. Hello."

Jian Qinian politely stood up and shook hands.

Ji Peiheng leaned back in his chair, watching his movements indifferently, without moving.

Jian Qinian awkwardly withdrew his finger.

Shi Yang turned her head and glared at him.

How rude!

Jian Qinian sat down, not taking it to heart: "President Ji is truly a man of character."

With Ji Peiheng's arrival, the originally lively occasion cooled down.

Out of fear of him, Xiao Yan didn't dare to say a word.

She secretly messaged Shi Yang: "Sis, why is President Ji here? Is he not planning to leave?"

Shi Yang: [I don't know.]

Who knows what he might suddenly do?

Jian Qinian didn't seem to be affected at all, and talked to Shi Yang about some things from their school days.

Although Shi Yang responded, he was clearly distracted.

She couldn't stay any longer: "I'm going to the restroom again."

She took a few steps and then turned back to Ji Peiheng, saying, "Mr. Ji, didn't you just say you needed to use the restroom? Shall we go together?"

Ji Peiheng got up lazily.

Once they were out of sight, Shi Yang couldn't help but ask, "What do you mean? Why are you sitting here instead of moving?"

Ji Peiheng replied irrelevantly, "You still haven't told me who that man is?"

"That was my senior from university."

Ji Peiheng repeatedly chewed on the words "senior," his eyes narrowing dangerously: "He's the one who asked you to come on this business trip?"

"No, we met by chance."

He raised his chin, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly: "Why didn't you tell him you were married?"

Why should I...

Shi Yang suddenly came to his senses. He hadn't explained his own situation clearly yet, so what right did he have to question her?

Ji Peiheng squinted at her, his eyes swirling with emotion.

Shi Yang raised her chin: "Our marriage was never meant to be. I told you from the beginning that we could leave each other alone. You could do what you want, and so could I..."

Hmm...

Before she could finish speaking, the man grabbed the back of her head and kissed her.

His kisses were more intense than a storm, his arms gripping her waist like iron hoops, pressing her soft curves against his hard body.

Shi Yang's tongue went numb from the kiss, and his mind went blank.

She leaned on his shoulder, panting weakly. Her round eyes, delicate nose, and soft lips were all red.

Ji Peiheng leaned close to her ear, his voice tinged with a hint of gritted teeth: "I've told you before, cheating is no different from being widowed."

Before Shi Yang could react to those words, she caught a glimpse of someone standing not far away and froze.

Xiao Yan stood at the corner, her eyes wide, her hands covering her mouth, looking incredulous.

Shi Yang tried to push the person in front of her, but Ji Peiheng didn't budge. He then pushed open the empty private room behind him and carried Shi Yang inside.

Their figures completely disappeared from Xiaoyan's sight.

As soon as they entered the room, Shi Yang pushed him away forcefully and wiped her mouth hard with her hand: "What are you doing?"

Ji Peiheng stared at her intently: "Are you angry?"

"I didn't," she said in a muffled voice. "I just didn't know how to explain it to Xiaoyan."

"No, it's not that. It's that day when you came to the Ji family to find me, I was meeting with Chu He, and you got angry because of Chu He!"

His tone was serious and very confident.

The lights were off in the private room, but Shi Yang seemed to see his burning gaze; his eyes seemed to have the ability to see through people's hearts.

Shi Yang awkwardly turned her face away, denying it: "You're overthinking it. I didn't go to see you, and I'm not angry."

"real?"

Her voice was dry and muffled: "Really."

What's the point of saying all this now?

She didn't want to bring up the topic and turned to leave.

She was hugged from behind again, the man's broad body easily enveloping her petite frame.

In the darkness, a cool voice carried a barely perceptible emotion: "Promise me you won't be sad, okay?"

Shi Yang considers herself a calm person. Due to her family background, she doesn't like to easily show her emotions and prefers to digest her grievances on her own.

But now, she actually felt like crying!
