The truth, which she had suspected from the beginning but which had gradually become blurred, was now clearly laid out before her. Yet the man before her wouldn't even spare her a glance.
"I think you need to calm down!" Mo Huaixing gently pushed her arm away and left.
Gan Tang said urgently, "Mo Huaixing, if you dare to take another step, I will go to Lu Zhengqian right now to do a paternity test."
Mo Huaixing turned around, all his unspoken words condensed into a helpless sigh: "What do you want to do?"
"I want to know, who are you!"
Seeing the man standing there, Gan Tang took two steps forward and said resolutely, "Fine, if you won't speak, I'll speak for you. On the cruise ship, you weren't the only one who wanted to save me, but you were the only one without a purpose. But how can a human being be without a purpose, unless he's a policeman..."
"Stop talking!" Mo Huaixing shouted, stopping the use of that horrible word.
Why can't I say?
Looking at the man who had saved her from danger countless times, Gan Tang felt aggrieved and wanted to cry: "Mo Huaixing, am I really that unworthy of your trust?"
The word "trust" was like a seed planted deep in his heart, but he quickly pulled it out, even if it drew blood.
Mo Huaixing coldly replied, "I don't need it!"
It's not that I don't trust them, it's that I don't need to.
"Why not? I can help you!"
Her gaze was too intense for him to bear, and he could only cowardly turn and flee.
Gan Tang followed him into the car and watched him drive it onto the designated route. She simply watched him quietly, waiting for an answer that she longed for.
Once the air conditioning in the car reached its peak, Mo Huaixing finally spoke: "You can't help me. Since Lu Zhengqian wants you to marry into the Chu family, he won't let you get involved in those dirty businesses."
The longing that had been suppressed in her heart burst forth like the Yellow River bursting its banks the moment she learned his identity.
Gan Tang could no longer hold back. She looked directly into his face and said firmly, "If you want, I can find a way to annul the engagement with Chu Jiahe."
Mo Huaixing slammed on the brakes, whether because of the red light or because of what she said, he didn't know.
He only showed half of his profile to her, and Gan Tang couldn't discern his state of mind. She suddenly felt very scared and didn't dare to ask him again.
So, Gan Tang suddenly leaned in and kissed those lips that she had longed to touch but never dared to approach.
The horn behind him blared impatiently. Mo Huaixing looked up, and the fifty-second red light instantly turned into a forty-second green light. He suddenly sped away.
Because of the minute-long kiss, and the fact that he didn't push her away the whole time, Gan Tang felt a warm, itchy feeling in her heart and stole a glance at him.
How embarrassing! My lips look like they've been smeared by my own kisses!
Gan Tang raised her hand to wipe the lip print from the corner of his mouth.
"Don't come any closer!" Mo Huaixing trembled with fear.
Gan Tang smiled sweetly and obediently turned her head: "Okay, I'll listen to you!"
A long silence fell over the car again. One person hummed a joyful tune in their heart, while the other…
They were approaching Yuanhuai Manor. Mo Huaixing parked the car a little distance from the gate. He finally looked at the girl beside him and asked, "You want to help me?"
Gan Tang nodded, her clear eyes like a spring.
Mo Huaixing coldly replied, "Marry him!"
"What?" The spring in his eyes dried up instantly.
"Only if you marry Chu Jiahe can this secret be kept, and only then will I be safe." Mo Huaixing's eyes turned fierce as he stared directly at Gan Tang: "I don't need a burden."
"A burden?" Gan Tang couldn't believe her ears.
"Yes! In my eyes, you're just a burden..."
With a "slap," Gan Tang slapped him across the chest, her voice filled with sorrow as she asked, "Then why did you save me?"
"It's my duty!" Mo Huaixing explained detachedly, "No matter who it is, as long as their ID card has Chinese characters on it, I will save them."
"Okay, I understand!" Gan Tang opened the door and got out of the car, then stretched her foot out before pulling it back. "There's one more thing I need to tell you. I didn't give my mother her medicine!"
Mo Huaixing asked urgently, "Are you crazy?"
"What do you mean I'm crazy!" Gan Tang glared angrily: "Just because he controls my life and death, I have to be like a puppet, making my closest people pay the price because of my cowardice?"
Mo Huaixing reminded him, "Do you know that Dr. Mu Zi will be tracking the test results?"
"So what? In this life, some things can be compromised; some things can never be compromised. My mother doesn't want to live like a walking corpse, and neither do I, even at the cost of my life. My father is already lying there; at worst, the three of us will die together."
Gan Tang looked at the man in front of her and felt incredibly ironic. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't have dared to gamble, but now, he didn't want her anymore.
fine!
Gan Tang wiped away her tears and said calmly, "But you don't need to worry. My mother took a small amount of medicine. Dr. Mu Zi said that people who take less than 3 milligrams will gradually recover after three months. After three months, my mother will continue to pretend to have amnesia. Even if it is discovered, we will never implicate you."
After saying that, Gan Tang got out of the car and closed the door.
Mo Huaixing got out of the car and blocked Gan Tang's way. "Give me the address, and I'll have someone secretly protect them."
"No need! Since you are unwilling to travel with me, I will not force you. From now on, let's go our separate ways!" Gan Tang pushed Mo Huaixing away and left resolutely.
The room was blindingly bright; Gan Tang turned the lights on and off casually. Yet, it couldn't stop the moonlight from streaming in, illuminating everything that was both familiar and strange.
Gan Tang let out a cold laugh. This is what it means to be a cuckoo in someone else's nest! She felt so tired, so tired that she didn't even have the strength to climb into bed. She simply sat on the foot of the bed, unconsciously scratching her calves until she felt pain.
She looked down and realized that her calves were covered in mosquito bites, some of which were so raw from scratching that they were itchy and painful.
No wonder I felt so uncomfortable just now; it turns out I was bitten.
Gan Tang felt much better, grabbed the pink landline phone, and said to the person on the other end, "Bring me a bottle of floral water!"
Just then, his phone rang; it was a video call from Chu Jiahe. It was around 8 AM in his time zone. Judging by the time, he should have just gotten off the plane.
Gan Tang suddenly felt guilty. She sat on the bed, turned on the bedside lamp, took a deep breath, and then pressed the button.
"Jiahe, you've gotten off the plane?"
Chu Jiahe hummed in agreement, then noticed the tear stains on Gan Tang's face and quickly asked, "Why are you crying?"
"It's nothing, I just accidentally got bitten by mosquitoes a few times," Gan Tang said, holding the screen in front of her calf.
Chu Jiahe's voice was urgent: "How did it get so serious?"
"Because I was stupid! I knew there were mosquitoes in the grass, but I still went in." As she spoke, her eyes reddened again.
Gan Tang quickly suppressed the feelings that shouldn't be growing in her heart and looked at her fiancé, whom she should really care about, on the screen. He was still wearing the clothes she had worn when she saw him off, a short-sleeved white t-shirt, looking much brighter and more energetic than that other person.
