Gan Tang forced a smile and asked, "How did he find me?"
Fang Heng said, "Your ring is a custom-made piece, so it would be more expensive if it were sent to the brand. The secondhand jewelry store was in a hurry to verify its authenticity, so they went to the brand store immediately. Your ring was designed by their chief designer. Anyway, they contacted Chu Jiahe."
"That must be quite far, right?" Gan Tang recalled that after selling the jewelry, the car still drove for almost an hour.
"Chu Jiahe requisitioned the military's search and rescue system, which is still in the trial stage. I don't know how he managed to do it. There might be trouble ahead." At this point, Fang Heng sighed, "He really cares about you."
"He has always been very good to me." It's just that I don't deserve it, I don't deserve such pure and innocent love.
Gan Tang dared not ask any more questions about Chu Jiahe. She hurriedly put away her jewelry, and when she looked up again, Mo Huaixing had already left.
Fang Heng looked at the girl who was on the verge of tears, then at the disappearing figure. He was bewildered by the complicated relationship between the three of them and regretted his joke that had stabbed his brother in the back. He seriously reminded Gan Tang: "Sister Lu, it's not wrong to be emotional, but you can't have your cake and eat it too, don't you think?"
Is he warning himself on behalf of his junior sister?
"I know!" Gan Tang guiltily picked up her chopsticks and lowered her head to eat, but the chopsticks fell to the ground. She picked them up, said, "I'll go get a pair of chopsticks," and hurriedly left.
When she returned, Fang Heng was no longer there. Gan Tang stared at the wallet in the medicine bag, her eyes stinging with pain.
Fang Heng found Mo Huaixing smoking in the stairwell of the mall.
"What's wrong?" He rarely saw him so dejected.
"fine!"
Mo Huaixing stubbed out his cigarette and left, but Fang Heng stopped him. Seeing that no one was around, he asked in a low voice, "Did you ask her why she orchestrated her own kidnapping?"
Mo Huaixing suddenly turned around: "What did you say?"
Fang Heng was even more puzzled, "You didn't realize that she was kidnapped on purpose, did you?"
"How is this possible!" Mo Huaixing exclaimed in shock.
Fang Heng was speechless at his brother's declining investigative abilities. "If she wasn't deliberately kidnapped, why would she hide a knife in her belt?"
Mo Huaixing tried to explain, "Maybe it's because they feel insecure." After all, they live in a world where death could happen at any moment.
Fang Heng scoffed, "When have you ever seen her wear so much jewelry? And that wedding ring she wore with Chu Jiahe, have you ever seen her wear it before?"
Mo Huaixing looked at Fang Heng with a puzzled expression and asked, "Why?"
"Your people, and you're asking me?" Fang Heng was speechless, guessing, "Could it be that they're trying to help you?"
The two returned to the hot pot restaurant and did not see Gan Tang, but all their belongings were still there.
Mo Huaixing hurriedly went to find a waiter, "Where's the girl sitting here?"
The waiter shook his head; with so many customers, how could they possibly notice everyone? It wasn't like they hadn't paid. The two hurried out and finally found the girl they were looking for at the entrance of a pharmacy on the same floor.
Mo Huaixing suddenly hugged Gan Tang, who was so tightly held that she couldn't breathe and tried to push him away.
"What's wrong?"
Mo Huaixing's gaze swept over the medicines scattered throughout the room, finally landing on the mineral water bottle on the trash can. He narrowed his eyes dangerously: "What are you doing here?"
His face was dark and intimidating. That one glance seemed to see through all his pretenses.
Gan Tang held up the digestive tablets in her hand, trying to appear calm: "I haven't eaten properly for two days, and I was worried about having an upset stomach, so I bought some medicine."
Mo Huaixing remained standing still. Gan Tang shoved the wallet into his hand and pushed him away, saying, "It's just that I took your wallet without your permission. Is it really necessary to be so fierce? Let's go, let's go back to eat."
The meal was unusually oppressive, with all three harboring unspoken thoughts. After the meal, Fang Heng took the two to the car market.
Mo Huaixing called Zhang Po, paid the fare, and drove Gan Tang back to Jinhai, back to the den of dragons and tigers they had no choice but to return to.
Mo Huaixing didn't say a word the whole way. Gan Tang drifted off to sleep, and when she opened her eyes, she was still on the highway.
"Are we almost there?" she asked.
Mo Huaixing didn't say anything and continued driving.
Gan Tang sensed something was off about him, but didn't think much of it. She leaned forward and asked, "Mo Huaixing, are you still going to Canglan?"
"Go!" Mo Huaixing said calmly.
Feeling uncomfortable talking, Gan Tang climbed into the passenger seat and asked, "How about I go to Canglan with you?"
Mo Huaixing didn't speak, but glanced at her sideways.
Gan Tang continued, "I don't think this kidnapping is a bad thing. At least everyone has seen that I have a very powerful figure backing me up. Even Pang Lou has been caught. As long as I'm protecting you, those cowardly drug dealers who bully the weak will have to think twice before they want to cause you trouble. They might even come to you for help."
After talking for a long time, no one around me said a word, as if they were covered by an ice box. There was a service area ahead, and the car turned directly into it.
Aren't you going?
The car stopped, and Gan Tang, seeing Mo Huaixing sitting motionless, didn't dare pay him any attention and got out to go to the restroom. When she came out, she was dragged two miles by someone.
Behind the service area lay deep, bottomless ravines. Gan Tang staggered to her feet, then angrily exclaimed, "Mo Huaixing, are you crazy?"
"Is this your reason for having Pang Lou kidnap you?"
Mo Huaixing's eyes were bloodshot, which frightened Gan Tang so much that she retreated repeatedly. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Alright, let me ask you this: I clearly told you not to go out, so why did you still take Zhang Po and the others out to play in such a grand manner?"
"I forgot." Gan Tang tried to get away from him and slip away.
"Forgot?" Mo Huaixing blocked her path, raised his hand to trap her against the railing, and, too lazy to waste any more words, angrily asked, "Tell me, what do you want?"
This was the first time she had ever seen him so angry, as if he might throw her off the cliff if she didn't tell the truth. But she didn't want to tell him the real reason, nor did she dare to.
Gan Tang chuckled and said disdainfully, "Mo Huaixing, you're not so narcissistic as to think I did this for you, are you?"
"Then tell me why?" Mo Huaixing shouted.
Knowing she couldn't escape, Gan Tang had no choice but to move out of Chu Jiahe's house.
“A few days ago, I went to visit Mrs. Chu, and she told me that Chu Jiahe was getting engaged to Meng Keqing. I don’t want him to get engaged to someone else; I want him to remember me.”
Mo Huaixing didn't dare to imagine that she was doing it for him. He was just worried that she would be too eager for quick success and disregard the consequences. But he never expected that it was entirely because of Chu Jiahe.
"You'd risk your life for this?" He felt a tightness in his chest and said angrily, "You'd even give up your dignity, is that it?"
"How was I supposed to know that you men would be thinking about such trivial matters even when you're running for your lives?" Gan Tang suddenly snapped. "As long as I can stop him from getting engaged to someone else, I don't care about anything else. I'll leave here someday and go find him with a clear conscience."
