Chapter 188 There is no better way

"I just felt that the teacher committed suicide until you came to me." Fang Heng sneered: "Investigating a case and ending up investigating his own teacher, he's really something."

Did he know before things were clear? Wasn't he more upset than you?

Gan Tang recounted what happened a few days ago: "Before the prosecution team arrived, I went to Teacher Chen's house with Mo Huaixing. That's when I learned that Teacher Chen had always known what Mo Huaixing had been doing, and that he had chosen to let him live."

Knowing what he was going to ask, Gan Tang continued, "But I can't tell you why Teacher Chen would help Fu Yuanshan, because he instructed Mo Huaixing not to tell anyone, and he didn't want his daughter to know either. I can only say that he deserves to be called your teacher."

Fang Heng gradually calmed down and asked, "Why would Lu Zhengqian suspect him?"

Gan Tang simply said, "He spread rumors that Pang Lou knew about Lu Zhengqian's crimes, forcing Teacher Chen to show up. After leaving Teacher Chen's house that day, he had people raid the company that had transferred money to Teacher Chen."

"Why?" Fang Heng asked the same question as Gan Tang.

Gan Tang replied, "It was for Qianqian's sake. Before leaving, Teacher Chen gave him a bank card because he was worried that Qianqian would be in danger if the card wasn't in the hands of the police."

“No!” Fang Heng sorted out his thoughts. “If that were all, he would have simply handed the bank card to his superior and wouldn’t have taken any risks. There’s a high probability that there’s an inside man working for Lu Zhengqian.”

Gan Tang shook her head. "I don't quite understand."

Fang Heng explained, "The teacher's case was a secret investigation, and Mo Huaixing returned it secretly without outsiders noticing. But it's different if there's an inside man. The evidence was found by the prosecution team in the teacher's house, or it came from the police; the inside man is very likely to find out."

Therefore, he had no choice but to strike first. This way, at least Lu Zhengqian wouldn't be able to determine that the mole lurking around him had a close relationship with the teacher; moreover, he wouldn't suspect that you had visited the teacher's house beforehand.

Gan Tang felt a headache coming on, but stubbornly retorted, "So what if I thought of it? There are no security cameras in Teacher Chen's neighborhood."

Fang Heng said, "Although there are no surveillance cameras in the teacher's residential area, there are on the main road. It's not like he can't ask the traffic police to check the surveillance footage."

"Just tell me what to do!" Gan Tang pleaded. "If you keep talking, I think I might as well just surrender to Lu Zhengqian." She really didn't want to do such complicated mental work.

“Having an inside man and finding a scapegoat is too risky. After all, we don’t have his file, so it’s easy to be exposed. Besides, you’ve been to the teacher’s house, which is still a potential problem.” Fang Heng thought for a moment, then suddenly looked at Gan Tang, “Logically speaking, he wouldn’t tell you what he did. How do you know so much?”

"Does it matter?" Gan Tang was a little unhappy. Why couldn't he tell her? But seeing Fang Heng's serious expression, she answered truthfully, "I heard Lu Zhengqian's phone call."

She then recounted her conversation with Mo Huaixing in detail.

Fang Heng's mind went blank: "Was that phone call before the company incident?"

"Yes!" Gan Tang nodded.

"I've got it!" Fang Heng slammed his hand on the steering wheel, his eyes burning. "Do you still have the talisman I gave you?"

"Um."

Fang Heng asked again, "Has Lu Zhengqian seen it?"

Gan Tang nodded.

“Very good.” Fang Heng revealed his plan. “In a moment, I will give you a listening device. You can put it in your amulet. Remember, first, after Pang Lou was arrested, I reminded you to carry the amulet with you at all times; second, that night, I asked you to deliver the wine to the teacher’s house; third, put the amulet in a good place so that he believes he can hear you when he makes a phone call.”

"That's no problem, I'll just put it in my phone case." Gan Tang suddenly came to her senses. "You mean, you're the mole that Lu Zhengqian is looking for?"

“Yes!” Fang Heng continued to instruct, “Tomorrow at the cemetery, after you see me, find a way to tell Lu Zhengqian that you went to your teacher’s house that night.”

"No!" Gan Tang shook her head. "You'll be in danger. He'll hate me to death."

“If you want to save him, listen to me.” Fang Heng stated her predicament bluntly, “You have no better way.”

The following morning, four black Bentleys drove to Xishan Cemetery.

Chen Jianfeng's funeral was held in a somber atmosphere. Fang Heng said that because his death was sudden, the investigation into him had been halted. Therefore, the funeral maintained his former honor and dignity.

Rows upon rows of tombstones stand on the hills.

Colleagues, students, and his family and friends all gathered before his tombstone, reminiscing about his glorious past and praising his honor. To maintain this honor, he abandoned his faith, allied himself with the evil he had fought against all his life, and ultimately protected this false glory with his life.

I wonder if, if he knew this from beyond the grave, he would be satisfied or find it absurd.

Gan Tang withdrew her gaze, looked at Lu Zhengqian beside her, and asked, "Isn't Dad going over?"

Lu Zhengqian laughed: "Dad wasn't invited, so how can he go?"

"Huh?" Gan Tang continued her act. "Who is it? Why would you come to pay respects to him without informing you?"

"An anti-drug hero, a hero who is lost in his own glory, hypocritical and conflicted, but he does have some backbone."

I wonder how Mo Huaixing would feel if he heard such a comment. Gan Tang suppressed her discomfort and got to the point, teasingly saying, "So it's your arch-nemesis. What does he look like? Let me see a picture."

"Why are you looking at photos? Come on, let's go take a look."

As Lu Zhengqian was speaking, he saw Ali open the car door, and Mo Huaixing also came over and opened the car door. Gan Tang rushed to Lu Zhengqian's side anxiously.

"Dad, didn't you say you weren't invited?"

“Your third uncle is also buried here. Let’s go take a look.” As he said this, Lu Zhengqian glanced deliberately at Mo Huaixing behind her. Of all the people he suspected, Mo Huaixing was the one he least wanted to see. So, this time, he only brought him along.

From afar, Chen Qianqian knelt before the tombstone, surrounded by several circles of people.

In the spacious square behind, a dense crowd of people stood.

What has Fang Heng arranged? I can't see anything about it. Gan Tang nervously grabbed Lu Zhengqian's arm and walked towards the gathered crowd.

Upon approaching, a familiar figure appeared on the side of the square: Chu Jiahe.

Chu Jiahe glanced sideways and saw Lu Zhengqian and his group. She stepped forward and asked, "Uncle Lu, what brings you here?"

"I've come to pay my respects to an old friend." Lu Zhengqian didn't recall any connection between the Chu family and Chen Jianfeng, and asked curiously, "Whom are you here to pay your respects to?"

Chu Jiahe glanced at Gan Tang and emphasized, "My girlfriend came to pay respects to her mentor, and I came with her."

At this moment, Meng Keqing walked over, holding an orchid in her hands, which seemed out of place among the chrysanthemums that filled the square.

"Jiahe, come with me to see the teacher."

The people standing in the square walked in an orderly fashion toward the tombstone.

"I won't disturb Uncle Lu and your sister any longer." Chu Jiahe gently took her hand and turned to leave. His soft coaxing voice still lingered in the air.

"Don't cry."

The same gentleness, but it was no longer spoken to her.
