Gan Tang suddenly panicked and hurriedly told Tian Tian to leave first. But she didn't dare stay there any longer, so she pulled her mother to the high-speed rail station. All the way back to Gu Yun, once home and the door was locked, Gan Tang dared to ask her, "Mom, you didn't tell anyone that you saw me at the Lu Group, did you?"
Mrs. Gan shook her head. "You told me to pretend to have amnesia, and I've been doing it. It wasn't until yesterday that your neighbor, Aunt Zhang, told me she saw you online, so I went to find you."
"That's good." Gan Tang was slightly relieved. The reason Lu Zhengqian let his parents go was because they didn't remember what happened after she disappeared. If they did know, she didn't know, would he feel at ease letting his mother live?
Looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar room, Gan Tang suddenly felt that her worries were somewhat unnecessary. He was even willing to keep herself and Mo Huaixing, two such huge ticking time bombs, alive; there was no reason for him to kill her mother.
The father was still lying in bed. Gan Tang sat by the bed and talked to him. He would still smile, but he just couldn't wake up.
"Mom, these past two years have been tough for you, haven't they?"
“It’s not hard work,” said Mrs. Gan. “I don’t know how it happened, but your father has two high-paying pension insurance policies and two medical insurance policies, which amount to thirty or forty thousand yuan a month. He doesn’t have to worry about money, and he can even hire a caregiver for your father. I’m not tired, it’s just that when it’s late at night and everyone is quiet, I feel empty inside.”
Gan Tang felt uneasy listening to this. She suppressed her feelings and said to her mother, "Mom, I need to stay outside for a few days. If anyone comes looking for me, don't tell them."
Gan's mother nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.
...
The three-month agreement with Chu Jiahe was almost up. Gan Tang took a taxi to the beach and called Chu Jiahe while listening to the sound of the waves.
"Tangbao, I'm angry that you're dating other men behind my back."
A deep, pleasant voice came from behind her. Gan Tang turned around and saw the man she had been longing for.
Mo Huaixing strode towards Gan Tang, pulled her into his arms, and fiercely accused her: "Tang Bao, I'm very angry, very angry, the kind that can't be coaxed."
Feeling the long-lost warmth, Gan Tang really wanted to hug him and cry her heart out, but reason made her push him away.
"Mo Huaixing, I've thought about it carefully, and it's better for both of us to separate."
Mo Huaixing glared at him angrily, "Tell me, what's so good about it?"
Gan Tang met his gaze and said coldly, "Mo Huaixing, I don't only have you. I also have parents to take care of. My father is still lying there. Do you want me to tell my mother that the man I love is the son of the culprit who killed her husband?"
"I don't believe it. Are you finding out today?"
"Believe it or not." Gan Tang couldn't bear the pain in his eyes and quickly left. Mo Huaixing stepped forward and took her hand. "Alright, I'll go with you to see your parents."
"Why should I take you? Let me go, let me go!" Gan Tang cried as she watched him drag her into the car. Mo Huaixing pinned her against the car door and kissed her.
The kiss was punitive, domineering and merciless, causing Gan Tang to slide down the car window. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her lips, and Gan Tang opened her eyes to find them filled with pain and a hint of anger.
"Say it, say you're wrong, say it now."
"Mo Huaixing, we..."
Seeing that she was still trying to argue, Mo Huaixing kissed her again, even more domineeringly and brooking no resistance, as if if she said another word, she would be utterly destroyed.
Gan Tang finally cried from his kiss. Mo Huaixing kissed away her tears and held her tightly in his arms. "Gan Tang, you said it yourself: Heaven and earth cannot be deceived, and people's hearts cannot be betrayed. We are already married."
"You can get divorced even if you're married."
"Hmm?" He thought she would say it wasn't true, but he didn't expect this answer. Mo Huaixing laughed, "But you also said that no matter what, I will always have you. Are you going to break your promise?"
"Are you really not going to regret it?" Gan Tang was made to cry again. "I'm afraid that one day you will hate me."
"Silly girl, my ideals and being with you have never conflicted." It was a bit cold outside, so Mo Huaixing picked up Gan Tang and put her in the car.
“From the moment I put on that police uniform, I have been steadfastly fulfilling my duties. For so many years, I always thought I was doing a good job, until that day when everyone started criticizing me. I found myself feeling somewhat sad. I realized that I wasn’t as steadfast as I thought, and that I also wanted the world to recognize what I was doing. But those honors and praises shouldn’t be what I’m pursuing; they’re not part of my beliefs.”
Mo Huaixing took the girl's hand and placed it on his heart, saying the words she had once told him, "If you think I am guilty, please redeem me."
"Fool." Gan Tang hugged him tightly and asked, "What if you really get expelled?"
"So what? I have a clear conscience, and that shouldn't be a reason for us to compromise." With that, Mo Huaixing flicked Gan Tang on the forehead: "Silly girl, he wouldn't dare."
Yes, he wouldn't dare. If things escalate, the investigation team will get involved. Then they'll realize that the Homecoming Project isn't truly over.
The phone rang; Chu Jiahe was calling back the call that hadn't been answered yet. Mo Huaixing took the phone out of Gan Tang's pocket, about to answer it. Gan Tang quickly snatched it away, got out of the car, and answered.
Mo Huaixing sat in the car, feeling increasingly uncomfortable with Gan Tang's gaze. He was clearly her husband, so why did she look at him like he was her lover?
"What's wrong?" Gan Tang asked as she returned from the phone call, pinching the sullen, dark face of the man.
Mo Huaixing opened his mouth directly, startling Gan Tang, who hurriedly dodged. She managed to avoid his hands, but not his waist. With a swift movement, he flipped her over and pinned her to the seat.
Gan Tang patted him shyly, "Stop messing around, I have something to tell you."
"You say it." The person acted like a rogue and refused to get up.
Gan Tang glared at him, "If you don't get up, I'm not saying anything more."
Mo Huaixing had no choice but to sit up dejectedly.
Gan Tang said, "Chu Jiahe said he's in China and told me to contact him whenever I need it. Should we go back to Jinhai?"
"Let's go see my mother-in-law first." Mo Huaixing got into the driver's seat and started driving.
Gan Tang hurriedly jumped into the passenger seat to stop her: "No, why are you going to see her?"
Mo Huaixing said with a righteous expression, "My mother-in-law is such an open-minded person, and you've ruined her reputation like this. I have to tell her to teach you a lesson."
“Mo Huaixing, you can’t go, really.” Gan Tang gripped his arm tightly. “My mom is a very serious person. Let’s wait until later. I don’t want her to know so much right now. She can’t help much anyway, and she’s always worrying unnecessarily.”
Mo Huaixing thought for a moment, then released the steering wheel and pouted, "Okay!"
"What?"
Mo Huaixing reminded him with dissatisfaction: "Post on Weibo and tell everyone that you are my wife."
"What a disgrace!" Gan Tang pushed away the person who had come up to her with disgust, and reluctantly opened Weibo, where a trending topic caught her eye.
