Chapter 239 An Inescapable Fate

That year, in midsummer, there was no news of anything happening to the Lu Group in society. But privately, the assets of the Lu Group and Lu Zhengqian were being seized.

At Yuanhuai Manor, amidst towering pagodas and grand buildings, the woman lying in the crystal coffin remained as young and beautiful as ever. One wonders how much effort and money he had spent over the years to maintain Jian Suhuai's figure.

But what's gone is gone.

Mo Huaixing stood before the coffin, seeing his legendary mother for the first time. "He always said how much he loved her, but in the end he still abandoned her and fled alone."

“No.” Gan Tang squeezed his hand. “Dad was going to take Mom with him. I persuaded him to stay. I told him that you would take good care of Mom, which was better than her wandering around with him.”

When the accompanying police officer entered, he was shocked to see such a large crystal coffin, with a sleeping beauty lying inside. He exclaimed, "A corpse hidden in the room? Fu Yuanshan actually has this kind of fetish?"

“It’s my mother.” Mo Huaixing’s words left the policeman stunned.

"Sorry." He snapped out of his daze and awkwardly walked out.

"Wait a minute!" Mo Huaixing knelt on one knee and opened the box in front of the coffin. He had thought the box contained Lu Zhengqian's network of connections built up over the years. Unexpectedly, it contained letter after letter. All the letters were from Fu Yuanshan to Jian Suhuai.

Suhuai, our child is two years old, the cutest age ever. When you were pregnant, you always craved sour foods. I think he will be a little boy, but he will definitely look like you, fair and tender.

Su Huai, our child is five years old, a time when he's as carefree as the wind. I made him a bamboo dragonfly to play with; children should be lively and joyful, after all.

Su Huai, our child is eight years old, the age to start elementary school. I've searched every elementary school in every city, but I still can't find him. Why do you never tell me where he is? Do you think I don't deserve to know?

...

The letter's longing for the child ended the moment Gan Tang was found.

Fate is cruel. Unexpectedly, the person he had hated for over twenty years was missing him for thirty years in the same time and space.

"You can go now!" Gan Tang said to the waiting policeman, then squatted down to help him sort through the yellowed letters. She should have realized that Fu Yuanshan would never hide such sinful things from the woman he loved most.

He always said that humans are inherently sinful, but he never showed any of that sin in front of the woman he loved most.

Gan Tang asked softly, "Shall we bury them?"

"good!"

Mo Huaixing did not bury Jian Suhuai in Jinhai, but rather in Qingyun Mountain. Buried with her were Fu Yuanshan's severed arm and that photograph.

At the foot of the mountain lies a village called Qingyun Village. Mo Huaixing stepped into his biological mother's hometown for the first time. No one is indifferent to their origins, and he too wanted to find traces of them.

As society develops, the mountain village has become desolate. It's no exaggeration to say that nine out of ten houses are empty. The most desolate place is my mother's house, which has been abandoned for thirty years.

A young couple walked into a deserted courtyard that had been uninhabited for years, attracting the attention of the elderly woman next door. She came in, leaning on her cane, and asked, "What are you doing here?"

The yard had become a vegetable garden, filled with loofahs and rapeseed. At that moment, Gantang was touching a loofah hanging from the ceiling. Seeing the old woman looking at her like she was a thief, she awkwardly withdrew her hand and asked, "Did you grow these vegetables?"

The old woman nodded, "I grow some vegetables to pass the time when I have nothing else to do."

"Do you know this family?" Gan Tang continued to ask.

"I watched this girl grow up," the old woman sighed. "Unfortunately, she had a bad life. Her parents died when she was seventeen or eighteen. She was also beautiful, so she was often targeted by the village hooligans. Later, a young man from another village came. He was strong, hardworking, and kind to the girl. They got married quickly. But their happiness didn't last long. The man ran away, and the girl, heavily pregnant, searched everywhere for him. I heard he died in the back mountains, and they never even found his body."

Would they have lived a happy life without Sheng Weide?

No one can answer that question; it's an unsolvable problem.

When the two returned to Jin Hai, it was noon. As the plane landed, Gan Tang and Mo Huaixing walked out of the passage hand in hand and were met by two prosecutors.

He ultimately could not escape the fate of being investigated.

Gan Tang, still somewhat dazed, separated from Mo Huaixing and then sat down in the interrogation room. Two prosecutors sat in front of her, one taking notes, the other staring intently at Gan Tang.

"Tell us, why were you the only one out of the three hostages to survive?"

"Did Sheng Ziyi ever stand by and watch someone die without offering assistance?"

"What is the relationship between Fu Yuanshan and Sheng Ziyi? Why would he stop the families of the two victims who reported him?"

"Was it Sheng Ziyi who burned down the village in Hongcheng?"

"Why did Fu Yuanshan receive the information before the police made the arrest? Did Sheng Ziyi leak the information?"

Gan Tang answered each and every one of the questions, suppressing her anger. But upon hearing this sentence, she could no longer hold back and angrily asked, "What do you mean?"

The prosecutor raised his voice to suppress the urge: "We are investigating Sheng Ziyi's activities during his undercover work. Please cooperate."

"Investigate?" Gan Tang was furious. "What were you doing when he was walking on thin ice trying to infiltrate the drug cartel? What were you doing when he was covered in wounds trying to save people? What were you doing when he was shot and nearly died trying to destroy drugs? What right do you have to investigate him!"

The prosecutor was also furious, "He has already admitted that he is Fu Yuanshan's biological son, are you still going to cover for him?"

"So what?" Gan Tang gritted her teeth to keep her tears from falling. "If he doesn't deserve to be a policeman, none of you deserve to sit here."
