“Taking out a loan is not worthwhile, and you still have to pay interest.” Mo Huaixing pressed his head against Gan Tang’s and seriously suggested, “I think it’s more worthwhile to have a wedding and collect wedding gifts.”
Gan Tang thought the suggestion was good and quickly started calculating, "Then, should we hire more people?"
"Yes!" Mo Huaixing nodded, "And there are the children's full moon celebration, first birthday celebration..."
Just as the two were plotting how to make money, Gan Tang suddenly looked at Mo Huaixing and asked, "Aren't we married yet?"
"Let's go tomorrow!"
"Where's the household registration booklet?" Gan Tang asked.
“I’ll go home with you tomorrow. And…” Mo Huaixing picked up Xiao Chengzi and asked, “Son, shall we go see Grandpa tomorrow?”
Little Orange popped out a bubble in her sweet, childlike voice.
On this trip back, they went from the height of summer to the cool of autumn. The fallen leaves of the plane trees carpeted the quiet paths of the campus. The fragrance of magnolia blossoms filled the entire campus.
Gan Tang's belly was noticeably larger, and Mo Huaixing led her by the hand deeper into the sycamore-lined area. Little Chengzi nestled on her father's shoulder, her bright eyes gazing at the wondrous world around her.
"I only knew you were a great shot, but I didn't expect you to be just as good at taking care of children."
A clear female voice rang out, and the two turned around to see a spirited young woman.
Meng Keqing approached the two, looked at the man who had stopped, and asked with a smile, "What, you're not even calling me 'Senior Sister' anymore?"
"Senior Sister!" Mo Huaixing bowed slightly.
Meng Keqing handed a red letter of appointment to Mo Huaixing, saying, "The principal has specially approved your appointment as an instructor at the school."
"This is against the rules."
“So it was specially approved by the principal.” Seeing that he didn’t take it, Meng Keqing handed the letter of appointment to Gan Tang. “It’s only two classes a week, so it won’t take up much of your time with your wife.”
Gan Tang glanced at Mo Huaixing and put the letter of appointment away. Although some rules cannot be broken, the world he loved was still trying its best to give him the greatest fulfillment.
"Thanks!"
"The wedding is on Mid-Autumn Festival, right?" Meng Keqing said, looking at Mo Huaixing with dissatisfaction, and asked with a smile, "Why did you only send an invitation to Fang Heng and not to me?"
"It's not finished yet," Gan Tang interrupted, explaining with a smile, "He lives quite far away, so we need to arrange it early."
"Alright, I'll wait for your invitation." Meng Keqing waved goodbye and turned to leave.
Gan Tang glanced at the man beside her whose gaze had been following her, and said sourly, "Are you regretting it?"
"Regret what?" Mo Huaixing asked in surprise.
"It's nothing!" How could she possibly talk about something like that? Gan Tang changed her question: "How come Sister Ke Qing and Fang Heng are so familiar with each other?"
It's all for you.
Mo Huaixing suddenly laughed, "She is Fang Heng's cousin."
"ah?"
"What do you mean, 'huh'!" Mo Huaixing still smiled. "What else did you think it was?"
Gan Tang shyly pushed him away and quickly changed the subject: "Where are we going later?"
"Let's go get our marriage certificate!"
Mo Huaixing took Gan Tang's hand again and walked deeper into the sycamore forest. By the time the Mid-Autumn Festival moon was full, it would be three years since they had known each other, but their commitment to each other was just beginning.
The broad leaves crunched underfoot, playing autumn music. The man beside me walked with noticeably lighter steps than usual. That letter of appointment had swept away the gloom that had hung over him for days.
Amidst the chirping of cicadas, Gan Tang asked softly, "Mo Huaixing, why do you want to be a policeman?"
This time, his answer was brief: the weak have hope, and the strong have awe.
