Chapter 25 The Ambiguity of Equivalent Exchange

Gan Tang turned her head and tentatively pressed her cheek against Mo Huaixing's. Just as she was worried that she would be pushed away, a large hand wrapped around her waist.

What benefits would I get if I agreed?

A pleasant and reassuring sound.

Gan Tang smiled, "I can help you sit at the same table as Lu Zhengqian and Fu Cheng, as long as you have the ability!"

"Okay!" Mo Huaixing cupped Gan Tang's face in his hands and turned his head to kiss the woman's luscious red lips. Even with his thumb between them, she couldn't control her disordered breathing.

It was a fake kiss, devoid of love, yet it scalded Gantang's heart.

An unprecedented flutter spread between the two.

The spy left, and the two released each other, awkwardly unsure what to do with their hands. Gan Tang noticed the burnt fish on the ground and bent down to pick it up.

"Hey, don't eat it, it's too spicy." Mo Huaixing reached out to stop her, but quickly pulled his hand back the moment it touched Gan Tang's hand.

"Why can't we eat it!" Gan Tang took the fish and walked back, with Mo Huaixing silently following behind her. Reaching the courtyard gate, Gan Tang turned to Mo Huaixing: "I'm here. Go back to sleep!"

"Since I am the young lady's bodyguard, it is my duty to protect her safety."

It was just an ordinary sentence, but his deep, magnetic voice made one blush uncontrollably.

Gan Tang pushed open the door and went in.

Mo Huaixing turned around and happened to see Fu Cheng coming over.

"Big brother!"

"Who's your older brother? What are you yelling about?" Fu Cheng had already seen the two of them. Seeing them chatting and laughing, he felt a strange sourness in his voice and left Mo Huaixing behind to enter the courtyard.

Inside the room, Gan Tang closed the doors and windows tightly, took out the photos hidden under the bed, and counted them over and over again. There were six photos in total, not one missing. These were photos taken in the cave when Mo Huaixing knocked Fu Cheng unconscious, and the photos of Fu Cheng that Fu Cheng dropped on the ground—nude photos of herself.

She turned on the tap, and the rushing water washed away the light and shadow from the photograph. After cleaning it up, Gantang opened the window.

Mo Huaixing stood in the moonlight, his upright back inexplicably giving people a sense of peace. For the first time in many days, she felt that her life was back in her own hands.

There was a knock on the door, and Gan Tang went to open it.

"Big brother?"

The two felt somewhat awkward upon meeting. Fu Cheng ultimately did not bring up what had happened in the cave, only saying, "Amo is ignorant of the rules; if he has made any mistakes, please forgive him, sister."

Gan Tang nodded in response: "Brother, you're overthinking it. He's fine."

"That's good."

Fu Cheng turned and went back to his room, where a dim, orange light was on. He remembered turning off the light when he left. Upon closer inspection, the door wasn't locked.

With a bang, Fu Cheng kicked open the door and stormed in, gun in hand. At the same time, a gun was pointed at Fu Cheng's head.

"Godfather..."

Caught off guard, Fu Cheng froze in his motion to pull the trigger.

Ali pressed the gun to Fu Cheng's head and roared, "You dare to rebel?"

Fu Cheng didn't argue with his wording, and quickly put away his gun. "Godfather, I thought you were on the cruise ship at this time..."

Lu Zhengqian raised his hand to stop him from speaking, leisurely poured himself a cup of tea, and asked with a half-smile, "Why are you back so late? Are you holding a grudge against me?"

The sound wasn't loud, but it sent chills down your spine.

Fu Cheng knelt down and said in a deep voice, "Godfather, you gave me my life."

"It's been so long, don't bring it up all the time." Lu Zhengqian gestured for Ali to leave, and poured Fu Cheng a cup of tea. "Sit down."

Fu Cheng handed the gun he was carrying to Ali, and only sat down after the door closed. The tea was a little cold, and he could tell from touching it that the person had been waiting for quite some time, which made him even more uneasy.

"Godfather, I was ignorant of the rules and disappointed you."

"You have indeed disappointed me." Lu Zhengqian said lightly, then sighed, "Acheng, Tang'er can be immature, but you can't. Your fourth uncle is too selfish, and Shaojie is brainless. In the future, whether the Lu Group can get on the right track, your godfather can only rely on you."

"Godfather?" Fu Cheng looked at Lu Zhengqian in shock. He had repeatedly suggested to Lu Zhengqian that they give up those illegitimate businesses and switch to legitimate and stable ones. But Lu Zhengqian had never responded to him.

"Silly child, do you think I haven't seriously considered the suggestions you gave me?" Lu Zhengqian said, glaring at Fu Cheng. "That's precisely why I'm even angrier. Rules are the foundation of a gang. How can you command respect if you don't clearly distinguish between rewards and punishments?"

"Godfather, I know I was wrong."

"If you know you're wrong, then think about it carefully." Lu Zhengqian got up to leave, and Fu Cheng quickly helped him up. Following the sound of footsteps, Lu Zhengqian spoke seemingly casually, "Acheng, do you really think that just because Tang'er cries a couple of times, I'll disregard the gang rules?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the two walked to the door. Lu Zhengqian patted Fu Cheng's shoulder lightly and said, "He saved your life, so your godfather has repaid him on your behalf. Remember, don't let petty sentiments delay our grand plans."

In the stillness of the night, a bright moon shone on the people lost in their own thoughts, until the sun rose and they all vanished without a trace. Amidst laughter and chatter, the cruise ship began its journey home.

Under the crystal dome on the top floor of the cruise ship, another family banquet was held. Before everyone had even taken their seats, the people behind them began to take their places one after another.

Zhou Shan crouched down and walked to Mo Huaixing's side, calling out softly, "Brother Mo!"

Mo Huaixing stood still, and Zhou Shan reluctantly nudged his elbow, "Brother Mo, this is my seat."

Mo Huaixing dismissed his hand with disdain and stood in the second seat opposite him. Last time, Lu Zhengqian had allowed Gan Tang to sit next to him, but according to the rules, she shouldn't be sitting in front of He Zhong.

Gan Tang walked in at that moment, and Mo Huaixing reached out to pull out a chair. However, Gan Tang didn't sit down, and asked him, "Did you take your medicine?"

Mo Huaixing shook his head in surprise.

"Where's the food?"

Mo Huaixing shook his head again.

"Didn't I tell you to eat before you come over?" Gan Tang picked up a piece of bread from the food counter next to her and handed it to him, gently commanding, "Eat quickly."

After saying that, he took out a packet of medicine and poured it into a teacup.

While on the island, he was beaten up by Ali, and later jumped into the sea to catch fish. He also spent the whole night in the sea breeze. In addition, his original injuries had not yet healed, and he developed a fever the next day.

Gan Tang prepared the medicine, checked the water temperature, and handed it to the man behind her. Seeing that he was holding the bread without touching it, Gan Tang urged, "Eat up, you'll drink the medicine if you don't eat anything, your stomach will hurt."

“Miss, now is not the time. I will drink it myself after the banquet.”

When there were other people around, she was especially attentive to him, and Mo Huaixing really couldn't resist. He silently took the teacup and put it behind his back.

"The banquet has been over for ages," Gan Tang said, displeased, and snatched the teacup to feed him.

"Cough, cough..." She drank too much, and Mo Huaixing couldn't hold back any longer. Gan Tang held the teacup in her hands and glared at him: "I told you my stomach would hurt if I didn't eat, so eat!"
