Chapter 69: How about a shotgun wedding?

The two faced numerous difficulties in being together.

Knowing she wouldn't get anything out of Chu Jiahe, Gan Tang didn't press him further, and joked, "If your parents keep disagreeing, would you... elope with me?"

"I will!" Chu Jiahe grasped Gan Tang's hands and solemnly promised.

"You might, but I won't! I can't let my dad be sad." Gan Tang pulled her hand away and walked forward with a smile.

The two walked to the embankment, and Mo Huaixing bent down to open the car door.

Chu Jiahe held Gan Tang's hand, reluctant to part: "Xin Tang, let me take you home!"

"No need, it's not on my way. You have a symposium tonight, you can't be late." Gan Tang got into the car and waved goodbye to Chu Jiahe.

The towering figures on the embankment grew increasingly blurry. Gan Tang closed the car window and asked Mo Huaixing, "Why did you come here?"

When she came over in the morning, she clearly told him that he didn't need to pick her up in the evening.

Mo Huaixing said, "Cao Yunbo has been staying at the Zijin Nightclub for several days. Ali asked me to ask you if you want to go and take a look."

"I'm not going!" What's the point of talking to him anymore?

"Fine! Then I'll decline his offer." Mo Huaixing didn't want her to go either, but he still reminded her, "Ali has made ample preparations; it seems Mr. Fu wants you to go!"

"Then... let's go!"

She had just blurted out the word "no," and she regretted it a little. Although, she still wanted to know why he had treated her that way.

This can be seen as putting an end to my ridiculous relationship.

"Mo Huaixing!" Gan Tang said in a muffled voice, hiding behind her seat, "Tell me, why is love so easily tested?"

She was referring not only to Cao Yunbo, who was blinded by greed, but also to herself, who had betrayed her country at the last minute.

"Love will not fail the test; if it cannot withstand the test, it is not love at all!"

"Really?" Gan Tang began to reflect: "Then is my feeling for Chu Jiahe love?"

Seeing Chu Jiahe now evoked complex emotions in her. Without the Cao Yunbo affair to conceal, she wasn't afraid of offending Chu Jiahe, and worried he might break up with her. Yet, at the same time, she felt a pang of reluctance.

If Lu Zhengqian insists on arranging a marriage, then marrying Chu Jiahe is better than marrying a playboy like Fu Shaojie.

Gan Tang was certain that Chu Jiahe was the most outstanding man she had ever met in her twenty-plus years of life. She was also certain that the next one would never be as good as Chu Jiahe. To this end, she even sought confirmation from Mo Huaixing.

What do you think of Chu Jiahe?

"……good!"

"Yeah, I also think he's great and would be a good husband." But as someone with social anxiety, she really didn't want to try to please his parents.

If I'm definitely going to marry him, then...

Gan Tang thought for a moment, then leaned against the driver's seat and asked Mo Huaixing, "What do you think about getting married because of pregnancy?"

With a sharp turn, Gan Tang was thrown directly against the door.

"Ouch, what's wrong?"

She already had back and leg pains from spending the whole day at the bay, and now she felt even worse.

Seeing that the navigation indicated there was still a long way to go, Gan Tang grabbed a soft pillow and lay down on the back seat to rest. From this angle, she could see Mo Huaixing driving.

He was expressionless, as if he hadn't heard himself speak at all.

"Hey!" Gan Tang kicked the driver's seat. "Did you hear that? What's wrong?"

"Not very good!"

"I think it's great!" I don't have to please his parents, nor do I have to attend so many banquets. I feel like an object, being sold off by his elders and relatives.

Mo Huaixing turned his head, looked at the woman with a hopeful expression, and frowned, "Aren't you afraid he won't take responsibility?"

"I'm not afraid!" Gan Tang said confidently. "I am the daughter of the Lu Group, after all. It's not like I have no one to back me up. If things really get out of hand, it would be so embarrassing."

"So you know it's shameful!"

"What?" Mo Huaixing's voice was too soft for Gan Tang to hear clearly.

"Give up on that idea!" Mo Huaixing suddenly raised his voice: "The Chu family has strict family rules and will not allow its descendants to do such a disgraceful thing."

Gan Tang nodded, "That's true. Chu Jiahe doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do that kind of thing."

As they were talking, Gan Tang's eyes lit up.

"Was it an impulsive act?"

"Isn't it said that men are driven by their lower bodies?"

"I think he quite likes me!"

Mo Huaixing found it too noisy, so he put on Bluetooth headphones to listen to music. But before he could finish a song, the headphones ran out of battery.

Gantang is still nagging and disturbing the peace.

"He's willing to elope with me, doesn't that mean he's willing to have sex with me beforehand?"

"He knocked on my tent three times during my lunch break. Was he hinting at something?"

With a thud, Mo Huaixing slammed on the brakes, and Gan Tang fell down without warning.

"Mo Huaixing, do you even know how to drive!" Gan Tang groaned, clutching her aching back.

Mo Huaixing felt that the world had become serene, and he raised the corners of his mouth in a smug smile.

"Wow!" Gan Tang exclaimed excitedly, patting the back of Mo Huaixing's chair as if she had discovered something amazing. "If I pretend to be injured, he'll have to carry me into the car. Then, things will get really heated..."

"What a terrible idea!" Mo Huaixing rolled his eyes in disgust.

“That’s true! It’s not appropriate in public.” Gan Tang didn’t notice Mo Huaixing’s unusual mood at all and continued to think. But she was exhausted after a whole day, and her mind was a complete blank except for the principle of tidal power generation.

"Mo Huaixing, can you help me think of something?"

What are you thinking about?

"How do you plan to help me get him into bed?"

Mo Huaixing turned his head angrily, "You want me to think about it?"

"Watch where you're going!" Gan Tang reminded him, nodding matter-of-factly. "Don't men understand men best?"

After saying that, she didn't wait for Mo Huaixing to speak, and lay down directly, closed her eyes and went to sleep.

The bay is some distance from the city center. The car wound its way along the highway for more than an hour before stopping outside the Zijin Nightclub.

None of the nightclubs and casinos are under the Lu Group's name. They are all under the names of individual members of the Green Dragon Gang who have some status. If the business is successful, the profits are split 20/80; if problems arise, that person bears all the responsibility.

The Zijing Nightclub, under Ali's name, was the most popular and also the most strictly managed. No man or woman working there could escape.

"Young Miss, we've arrived!"

Mo Huaixing's voice came, and Gan Tang opened her eyes and saw Ali standing outside the car door.

Ali personally opened the car door and led Gan Tang inside: "Miss, please!"

"good!"

I said I was coming, but once I got here, I felt a little timid.

The colorful lights, the loud music, and the chaotic shouts were irritating, but it wasn't as chaotic as on a cruise ship. Gan Tang turned her head and saw Mo Huaixing following behind, which reassured her slightly.

As I passed a private room with its door half open, a familiar voice came from inside.

Gan Tang turned her head to look over.

Inside the room, four elderly women sat on the sofa. Cao Yunbo, shirtless, knelt beside the transparent coffee table. A short, plump woman in her fifties used her swollen feet to pick up a glass of red wine and slowly brought it to Cao Yunbo's lips.
