Chapter 85 Wanting a Birthday Present

"Huh?" The seemingly random question left Gan Tang confused.

"He has impure thoughts about you." As a fellow man, when he found Xintang, Mo Huaixing knew what the look in her eyes meant.

Yeah?

Gan Tang panicked, but pretended to be clueless with a smile: "What could he be thinking? He wouldn't be asking for a raise, would he? I pay him quite a bit!"

Just as Chu Jiahe was about to speak, Lu Zhengqian returned. He stood up and bowed, "Uncle Lu, I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of Xintang."

"Not at all!" Lu Zhengqian said kindly to Chu Jiahe, "I should thank you for saving Tang'er."

Chu Jiahe continued, "Uncle Lu, the doctor said that Xintang should not move around for the next few days, so I want to stay here with her to help her recover."

Gan Tang was pressed for time and didn't want to stay here to recover. Worried that Lu Zhengqian would agree, she hurriedly urged, "My father is here. Why are you staying here? Let's go."

Just then, the Chu family driver came to urge Chu Jiahe.

How could Chu Mingxuan let his son stay with another woman? But the fact that he allowed his son to linger for so long suggests he must have been moved. Lu Zhengqian said, "Don't worry, nephew, go back now!"

Chu Jiahe had no choice but to take his leave, and the room immediately fell silent.

Mo Huaixing hurriedly brought a chair for Lu Zhengqian.

With a sharp "slap," Lu Zhengqian slapped Mo Huaixing across the face. He knew his daughter was injured, but he hadn't expected it to be so serious. He couldn't help but feel a lingering fear.

"Is this how you protect the young lady?"

Mo Huaixing bowed his head and confessed: "This subordinate deserves to die. Please punish me, Chairman."

Gan Tang said anxiously, "Father, it's not his fault. I wanted to have some time alone with Madam Chu, so I didn't let him come with me."

Lu Zhengqian sat down, his anger still unabated: "Dare to touch my daughter? Go, burn that village down. If there's not a single house left, I'll burn you down too."

"Yes!" Mo Huaixing turned and left.

Looking at Lu Zhengqian's fierce appearance, Gan Tang asked, "Dad, isn't this a bit too cruel?" It left all the villagers homeless.

"Tang'er, we must not be lenient with these evil people. Otherwise, they will spring up again like weeds in spring."

Gan Tang nodded. For the first time, she felt that Lu Zhengqian was right. What value did a village that made a living by trafficking people have?

As the night deepened and the dew grew heavy, Lu Zhengqian talked with his daughter for a long time. Ali knocked on the door to remind him, "Chairman, you have a meeting tomorrow. You should go back and rest."

Lu Zhengqian said, "Tang'er, you should rest well. I'll come to pick you up in a few days."

Gan Tang refused and insisted on going back with him. She couldn't stay in Hongcheng, and Lu Zhengqian, looking at the shabby hospital, couldn't bear to let his daughter suffer there.

An hour later, a luxurious RV pulled up in front of the hospital. Gan Tang lay comfortably inside the RV, feeling as if she were in another world.

The mountain road was rugged and uneven. Looking at the bumpy RV, Lu Zhengqian felt heartbroken: "This poor little county doesn't even have an airport. My Tang'er is suffering."

“I think it’s a good idea.” Gan Tang didn’t want to waste a moment and said to Lu Zhengqian, “Dad, Madam Chu wants to set up a foundation to help trafficked people and wants me to help her run it. Can you teach me how to do it?”

"OK!"

On the highway leading to Jinhai City, Lu Zhengqian patiently taught his daughter, paying attention to every detail. She listened very attentively and filled half a notebook with notes.

Back in Jin Hai, life was quite pleasant. The establishment of the foundation truly kept Gan Tang busy. After the foundation rescued its first abducted woman, Gan Tang and Madam Chu embraced and wept bitterly.

To support his daughter, Lu Zhengqian also invested a significant amount of financial and human resources into the foundation. Gan Tang was bewildered as she watched her father deposit funds into the foundation's account.

This is ill-gotten money, yet without it, many people in need would not receive help. Should I use it or not?

At the same time, she was also thinking, if a bad person starts doing good things, is he still a bad person?

"What are you thinking about?" Chu Jiahe's voice interrupted Gan Tang's thoughts.

"It's nothing!" Gan Tang asked, seeing his empty hands, "Why didn't you bring me lunch today?"

These days, she has been working at the foundation. Every day, Chu Jiahe brings dinner over to eat and work with her.

"No more overtime today." Chu Jiahe leaned against his desk, pointed to the clock on the wall, and reminded him, "You have twenty minutes left to work."

"Ah, I still have so many things to do!" Gan Tang said coquettishly, raising her right index finger. "An hour later."

"Nineteen minutes." Chu Jiahe began the countdown.

"Alright, alright!" Gan Tang could only save it for now.

As the clock struck six, Chu Jiahe, holding the hand of his beloved girl, walked out of the foundation's gate. Blue skies, white clouds, and a golden sunset.

"What would you like to eat?" Gan Tang asked.

Chu Jiahe tilted his head slightly and whispered in her ear, "I want to eat you."

Ever since that night when things almost escalated, Chu Jiahe had been teasing her intentionally or unintentionally, becoming increasingly brazen. Gan Tang awkwardly pushed him away, pouting, "If you don't tell me, I'm going upstairs."

"Trying to run away? Too late." Chu Jiahe immediately wrapped his arms around her soft waist.

The two arrived at the Pearl Tower, where they first met, but this time at the rooftop restaurant. Standing there, they could overlook the dazzling lights of Tianjin through the bright glass walls.

A meal here costs an average white-collar worker half a year's salary, but even if they save enough money, they still don't qualify to enter. Chu Jiahe, on the other hand, can book the entire Starry Sky Restaurant.

Gan Tang had to admit that without Lu Zhengqian, her biological father who caused her distress, fear, and hatred, she would never have had the chance to eat here, let alone meet such a prominent and talented young man as Chu Jiahe, much less become his girlfriend.

Chu Jiahe led Gan Tang's cold hand to the best table with a view. The dim light shone on him, and Gan Tang realized that he was dressed very formally today, in a black suit and a burgundy tie, clean and gentlemanly.

Gan Tang asked in surprise, "Why did you book the whole place?"

Although he is very rich, he has always been low-key. Why make such a fuss over a simple date dinner?

Chu Jiahe looked into Gan Tang's sparkling eyes and said with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Do you know that today is my thirty-first birthday?"

"Ah?" Gan Tang hurriedly admitted her mistake: "Jiahe, I'm sorry, I was so busy I forgot."

"Forgot?" Chu Jiahe asked with a smile, "I never told you my birthday, how did you know?"

He gave her a very reasonable excuse; he was always so thoughtful. Gan Tang smiled, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? I didn't even prepare a gift."

The brightly lit rooftop lights were turned off, and the skylight opened to let in the twinkling stars. The waiter closed the restaurant door, leaving the two of them alone.

"It's not too late!" Chu Jiahe looked at the girl in front of him, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Xintang, I want to ask you for a gift in person."
