The door opened slightly, letting in a gust of cold air.
Gan Tang caught a glimpse of the newcomer out of the corner of her eye, hurriedly pushed Chu Jiahe aside, and staggered to her feet.
"Brother, I was just testing how soft the bed was." Realizing that she was making things worse, Gan Tang quickly changed the subject, "Why are you here?"
Fu Cheng stood at the door, feeling incredibly awkward. The room wasn't even furnished yet, and he had just casually pushed the door open; who would have thought the two of them would be so bold in the room?
Leaving now doesn't seem quite right. Fu Cheng took two steps forward symbolically and handed over a set of blueprints, "My godfather asked me to give you the layout of the villa, thinking you might find it useful."
"Thank you, brother!" Chu Jiahe walked over to take the blueprints.
The three of them stood in the room and exchanged a few perfunctory pleasantries. Fu Cheng then excused himself and left, his expression practically screaming "You guys continue!"
But things are already this awkward, how can we continue?
Looking at the layout map in his hand, Chu Jiahe asked Gan Tang, "Do you want to come back to the apartment with me?"
"How can I go dressed like this!" Gan Tang punched him in embarrassment. Young Master Chu was leading his newly engaged wife back to the company apartment; who knew what embarrassing stories they would tell?
"You should go home! We have a wedding banquet to attend, and there are many things we need to discuss with your parents. We've been away for so long, we need to get these things settled first."
"Okay, I'll listen to my wife." Chu Jiahe took Gan Tang's hand and led her downstairs. "Let's take you home first!"
"No, you should go home quickly!" Gan Tang had something on her mind and wanted to get back as soon as possible. "My brother hasn't gone far. I can ride with him on the way."
"Then I'll pick you up tomorrow morning to get our marriage certificate." Chu Jiahe lowered his head and pressed his forehead against Gan Tang's. Gan Tang looked up and planted a promise kiss on his cheek.
Fu Cheng was driving himself when he received Gan Tang's call, so he pulled over to the side of the road to wait for them. Chu Jiahe drove up and caught up with them, and Gan Tang waved goodbye to him before getting into Fu Cheng's car.
"Going to Qinglong Bay?" Fu Cheng guessed, otherwise she wouldn't have taken his car back.
Gan Tang nodded.
Fu Cheng remained silent throughout the journey, so Gan Tang decided to speak first.
"Big brother, thank you."
Fu Cheng knew she was referring to her adoptive parents, so he gave a polite reply and didn't say anything more.
Gan Tang's request stuck in her throat, her eyes filled with trepidation. The man before her seemed gentle, but he exuded an icy aura that kept people at a distance. Unlike Mo Huaixing, who, though appearing cold, became warmer the closer one got.
But Mo Huaixing couldn't make the decision on this matter; he couldn't very well let a sick person come to Fu Cheng for help.
While waiting at a red light, Gan Tang spoke up: "Big brother, what do you think about Miss Lin being my bridesmaid at my wedding?"
Fu Cheng suddenly looked at Gan Tang in the back seat. If Lin Shuang could become the bridesmaid of the eldest daughter of the Lu family, no matter how favored the women around her godfather were now, and no matter how many women around her godfather would remain in the future, Lin Shuang's position in the Green Dragon Gang would be unshakable.
He lowered his eyes to hide the excitement in them, and said distantly, "It's up to you, sister, to decide who your bridesmaids will be."
You guessed right!
Gan Tang was pleased with the fleeting excitement in his eyes, and spoke with more confidence.
“My adoptive father is in poor health; he suffered a stroke, and the doctor said that if he's not careful, he could easily become paralyzed. The medical facilities in the US are the best. I've always wanted to save money to take him to see a doctor. Unfortunately…”
At this point, Gan Tang sighed, "If only they could have a good living environment in their later years."
Fu Cheng glanced at Gan Tang with surprise and said indifferently, "My sister will have all her wishes fulfilled."
"That's good!" Gan Tang smiled.
The two tacitly agreed to the deal.
When Gan Tang arrived at Mo Huaixing's room, her eyes still held an indelible hint of spring. In Mo Huaixing's eyes, this reflected her state of mind after her engagement.
"Why is Miss here instead of preparing for the wedding?" His words were tinged with sarcasm.
Seeing his expression, Gan Tang assumed he was feeling stifled indoors and asked with a smile, "Can you walk? I'll go for a walk with you."
"I dare not trouble you."
“That means you can walk now!” Gan Tang smiled and helped him out.
Mo Huaixing wanted to dodge, but when he thought that he had been injured because of her, he felt it was okay to let her help him.
They walked along the quiet cobblestone path by the lake. Mo Huaixing looked at the girl beside him and felt that this was probably the last time they would walk side by side, so he slowed his pace.
Gan Tang thought he was walking slowly because of the pain, so she pointed to a chair next to her and asked, "Would you like to sit down?"
Not far from the entrance to the pavilion in the middle of the lake, Mo Huaixing pointed to the pavilion and said, "Let's sit there!"
He also wanted to travel with her for a while.
"Okay!" Gan Tang helped him up the long wooden bridge, the sound of his footsteps was very light and ethereal.
She relaxed for once and reminisced, "There's a pavilion like this in the lakeside pavilion in the park next to our house. My parents said that the thing they looked forward to most in their lives was to hold hands with their grandson and take a walk in the lakeside pavilion at sunset."
This statement is somewhat ambiguous.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Gan Tang realized how inappropriate they were. Fortunately, Mo Huaixing acted as if he hadn't heard her and didn't respond.
Entering the pavilion in the middle of the lake, Gan Tang helped Mo Huaixing sit down and asked him, "When does your elder brother want you to go and persuade my parents?"
In his presence, she never addressed them as adoptive parents.
"Tomorrow or the day after." Mo Huaixing's answer was simple and clear.
Gan Tang asked nervously, "Are you confident you can persuade them to leave?"
Mo Huaixing saw through her thoughts at a glance and said coldly, "You can't go if you're not sure."
The tone left no room for negotiation.
"I'm not going!" Gan Tang liked his keenness but disliked his keen insight, so she had to settle for second best: "Could you pass on a message to them for me? Tell them to adopt another daughter, just like me, no different. And then, tell them to forget about me!"
"Okay!" He had already promised to pass on a message to her, so he didn't think much of it.
The lake was damp, which wasn't good for his injuries. Gan Tang, seeing the sky gradually darkening, reminded Mo Huaixing, "Let's go back!"
"Sit a little longer!"
His request was so simple, yet at night, Chu Jiahe would design the villa and might video chat with him at any time.
Gan Tang shook her head. "Let's go back. I need to hurry back to Yuanhuai Manor."
Aren't you staying here tonight?
Gan Tang still shook her head, "Tomorrow, Jia He is going to pick me up to get our marriage certificate."
Mo Huaixing smiled, as if mocking himself for asking the question, and turned to look at the vast lake: "You can go now, I want to sit for a while longer."
"Then you should go back soon!" Gan Tang turned and left, walking further and further away from him.
Hearing the footsteps, Mo Huaixing suddenly turned around and chased after them.
"I'll take you back."
"No need, your injury hasn't healed yet."
"The last time!"
Gan Tang was taken aback. Was this really the last time?
