It was a yellow amulet, slightly worn.
"Thank you!" Gan Tang smiled and accepted it. "You police officers actually believe in this?"
“Sometimes, I do believe it!” Fang Heng concealed the sadness in his eyes and opened his notebook. “Alright. I’ll start asking now.”
Mo Huaixing returned and leaned against the wall, quietly listening to the two talking.
Time passed second by second. Fang Heng closed the notebook and looked at the face that had never stopped.
"Comrade, I didn't drive here. Could you give me a ride?"
"Comrade" was a title Mo Huaixing hadn't heard in a long time, and for a moment he felt a little dazed.
The two walked out of the hospital side by side.
The streets of the small town lacked the glitz and glamour of big cities; they were quiet and peaceful. The two stood under the dim streetlights, marching in unison towards the distance.
"Thank you!" Fang Heng spoke first: "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to wipe out that human trafficking village in one fell swoop."
For years, he collected evidence, hoping to wipe out the entire village of human traffickers. But each time he submitted a plan to crack down on them, it was rejected due to insufficient evidence.
Mo Huaixing said calmly, "It's just a coincidence, you don't need to take it to heart."
"Yeah?"
Three years ago, Mo Huaixing went to the Southern Region on a mission, and not long after, a report of his death was sent back. Fang Heng had always thought he was dead, but he himself was not dead. He couldn't believe that Mo Huaixing hadn't paid any attention to him in the past three years.
“You’re still as stubborn as ever.” No matter how much you do for others, you never say a word. Fang Heng asked, “You’re always thinking about me, but what about Teacher Chen? Ever since he learned of your sacrifice, every time I visit him, he’s always talking about you.”
