Chapter 15 Watching a Movie
"Perhaps you know him?"
"impossible!"
Yan Jinnian remained silent.
Anmi continued, "The Yan family is from a different world than us."
"If the Yan family moves their toes, the entire capital city will tremble."
“But Wanqiu is an exception; she’s different from those people.”
Those people… The man’s expression darkened slightly.
"...Let's eat."
Anmi: "Oh."
Compared to the last hot pot meal, Yan Jinnian's appetite increased significantly this time.
Anmi kept feeding him because she was worried he wouldn't eat.
She handed one to Yan Jinnian, and Yan Jinnian ate one.
The meal took almost two hours.
By the end of the meal, Anmi was leaning on the table, indicating that she couldn't eat anything more.
"Are we going to see a movie?" she asked, prompting the conversation.
"Okay, let's go." Yan Jinnian got up from his seat and picked up the bag that was placed next to her.
"Thanks."
As she passed the front desk, Anmi grabbed two mints.
"Here you go." She handed one to Yan Jinnian.
"Eating this can freshen your breath."
She and Tang Cai had a habit of adding garlic to their lettuce when eating barbecue, and to remove the smell, they would always put a mint in their mouths before leaving.
Although there was no garlic in the condiment dish today, she still took it out as a habit.
Fresh breath?
Yan Jinnian's eyes flickered slightly, and he popped the candy directly into his mouth.
Leaving the mall, the car drove on, disappearing into the night.
The number of tall buildings on both sides of the road gradually decreased.
Anmi glanced at the navigation; it seemed they were heading towards the outer ring road.
"Which movie theater should we go to?" she couldn't help but ask.
Yan Jinnian gripped the steering wheel: "East Fourth Ring Road."
"So far!"
It's just a movie, there's no need to travel this far.
However, as someone who was just hitchhiking, she didn't seem to have the right to say that.
Anmi obediently lay back in her chair: "It's better if it's far away, since I haven't been there before."
Beijing is such a big city, but her activities are limited to the vicinity of her rented place.
As the car arrived at the East Fourth Ring Road, a huge open-air curtain could be seen in the distance.
Anmi lowered the car window, and five large characters flashed on the neon sign in front of her.
"A drive-in movie theater?"
Yan Jinnian parked his car at the gate and scanned the code, answering her as he did so: "Yes, I came here a few times when I was little, it's not bad."
"Wow…"
Anmi couldn't help but show an envious look.
When she was little, her mother would take her to school on her electric scooter.
Back then, she envied those who could ride to school in cars.
Watching a movie while sitting in a car?
I wouldn't even dare to think about it!
After driving along the path lined with LED strip lights for a while, a spacious open-air cinema came into view.
It's a little past eight o'clock.
Two rows of cars were already parked neatly in front.
The show they bought tickets for hasn't even started yet.
Yan Jinnian parked the car in a good spot and, as instructed by the staff, turned on the radio and tuned it to the appropriate channel.
Anmi found the whole process very novel.
From her angle, the sky above was a deep blue, and behind the huge curtain in front of her, she could see the interlacing shadows of trees.
Warm yellow light strips hung from the bushes below the curtain.
It has a great atmosphere.
She had seen drive-in movie theaters online before, but unfortunately she didn't have a car and couldn't come.
I never expected to experience it today.
Is this one of the benefits of having a best friend?
Such a good best friend deserves to be shared more often!
Yan Jinnian opened the car door: "I'm going to buy some food. What would you like to eat?"
There are several stalls along the side of the alley just inside the entrance, selling snacks such as grilled skewers, popcorn, and takoyaki.
Anmi raised her hand: "Teacher, I want some popcorn!"
Yan Jinnian smiled slightly: "Okay."
Ten minutes later, the man returned carrying two large bags full of food.
Anmi felt a slight, sharp pain in her stomach.
"Can we finish this?"
They just ate a barbecue for four people!
Yan Jinnian handed her one of the bags: "Your popcorn, two buckets."
Anmi: -
Sorry, raising pigs is not allowed here!
The two moved to the back seat and put their food on the small table in the back.
The bright lights at the top of the starry sky created a strangely romantic atmosphere.
Anmi wasn't hungry at all right now. She glanced at the oil on the skewers and worried about getting someone's car dirty, so she picked up a bucket of popcorn and slowly started munching on it.
The sound of a movie starting to play came over the loudspeaker.
Before coming, Anmi specifically looked up the actors' introductions.
The female lead in this film is a well-known queen of art-house films in China, and her acting style is consistently bold.
The movie synopsis also mentions that there are quite a few intimate scenes in this film.
But she didn't expect that there would be a passionate scene just ten minutes into the movie.
Ambiguous voices rose and fell.
The car's radio had a very immersive sound, making it feel as if the two of them were sitting on the edge of a bed, not in a car.
Anmi felt as if her buttocks were being burned by sparks, making her restless and unable to sit still.
She had intended to steal a glance at Yan Jinnian's reaction, but when she looked up, their eyes met in the dimly lit back seat.
"..."
It was awkward and embarrassing.
The man rested his arm casually on the middle of the seat, his voice low and languid: "I didn't expect Miss An to be so outgoing."
Oh, here she is, waiting for her!
Anmi has her own way of dealing with things by cracking jokes.
She grinned and said, "Hehe."
"..."
After the passionate moment, everything became quiet and peaceful.
An Mi stopped her awkward smile: "Mr. Yan, you don't need to be so polite and keep calling me Miss An. Just call me An Mi."
Less formality means less distance.
Yan Jinnian rested his hand on his cheek and glanced at her: "What do your best friends call you?"
Anmi was a little embarrassed: "They call me Mizi, which is Mi with the 'zi' in 'son' after it."
"..."
"They call them that because it's easy to say..."
What do your family members call you?
Anmi was stunned for a moment: "My mother calls me by my nickname, Duoduo."
“Duoduo…” Yan Jinnian murmured to himself.
"Then I'll call you Duoduo too."
"Huh?" Anmi frowned. "Isn't that a bad idea..."
Doesn't this mess up the generational order?
Yan Jinnian thought for a moment and said, "How about adding the surname, An Duoduo, is that alright?"
"..."
An Duoduo? Is she some kind of elementary school student?
Anmi's brow furrowed even more.
Was this person teasing her on purpose?
I should have known better than to bring up the nickname; it just created an unnecessary joke.
"And you, what's your nickname?" she tried to change the subject.
The man's expression turned serious in a second: "No."
"..."
That strange expression of hers means she definitely has some kind of shameful nickname!
Anmi cannot accept that only her nickname has been exposed.
She tempted him, "Okay, rock-paper-scissors, if you lose you have to tell me your nickname."
The man leaned back in the back seat with an elegant posture.
"What if I win?"
"Well……"
Anmi was taken aback; she hadn't thought of that.
Yan Jinnian's lips curled slightly: "If you win, I'll tell you my nickname. If you lose, you'll grant me one request, how about it?"
Anmi felt that he was digging a hole for himself.
Why should I agree to his request when he only mentioned a name?
But she still curiously stuck half a leg into the pit.
"So what are your requirements?"
Kiss me.
"?"
Anmi felt that he was getting more and more insane.
She tried to reason with him: "Don't you know that as a gentleman, you shouldn't always use such an impolite word as 'dear'?"
"Then kiss me."
"!!"
