I am a happy film critic: I am a judge of the Golden Dragon Film Festival. When I was at the Golden Dragon Film Festival, I should have watched the full film of "Country Love". When it premiered, I also bought the premiere ticket to support it.
But I didn't expect that Mr. Fang was so generous. After the source of "Country Love" was leaked, the first thing he did was to compensate the viewers instead of sending a lawyer's letter to everyone who watched the pirated version.
Such a generous gesture is really very appropriate.
After praising the film’s investor Mr. Fang, let’s praise the film “Country Love” itself.
Originally, the name "Country Love" has already told the audience most of the plot.
Countryside + Love, such a very cinematic Chinese art film.
Of course, it is really still an art film.
The various cinematic shots and profound lines in the film all demonstrate its literary and artistic nature.
But when filming, director Nie Yutian did not follow the path of other art films, but took a different approach.
Director Nie Yutian graduated from the Directing Department of Peking University and Tsinghua University. Her senior Huang Xiaoxing is also an art film director. He has made 5 art films and won many international awards.
For example, "Mars Rover", "Sherpa's Summer", "My Father and Grandpa", and the most popular ones in the promotional videos are "Grandpa Who Grows Vegetables" and "Horse Wrangler Who Chop Wood".
Nie Yutian did not follow the path of her senior Huang Xiaoxing and filmed "Country Love" into the obscure and profound "Grandpa Who Grows Vegetables" and "Horse Shepherd Who Chop Wood".
Instead, it follows the model of commercial films and tells the story honestly.
On this basis, a profound and obscure literary and artistic atmosphere is added.
What I admire most is that adding suspense and reasoning to art films is the biggest innovation.
Director Nie Yutian is still a new director, but her talent is truly enviable.
Of course, I heard from the grapevine that the script was modified by Fang based on the one directed by Nie Yutian. But I don't know whether the source of the news is true or not.
All that being said, let’s get back to the film itself.
"Country Love" is a realistic and literary suspense and mystery story.
Next, let me talk about my understanding.
Many people are discussing this movie. Is the protagonist Wang Qiang crazy? If so, when did he go crazy?
As a film critic who has watched two different versions of the movie, I can talk about my understanding of Wang Qiang.
I feel that Wang Qiang has gone crazy a long time ago.
When did you go crazy?
Basically, after he returned home, he was forced by his father to go to Erhu's house to seek justice, and then he was slapped by Erhu.
Maybe, someone didn't notice some details of that shot.
When Wang Qiang was slapped to the ground by Erhu, when the camera showed Wang Qiang's back, his buttocks were wet.
In other words, Wang Qiang was scared to death when facing the strong and rude Erhu.
A young talent who had received higher education and was working at a university and could be said to have a promising future, found for the first time that he was not respected as he had imagined when he returned to the village.
On the contrary, the village advocates the most primitive law of the jungle.
This made Wang Qiang realize that the higher education he had received was nothing in the village.
He thought he was superior to others, but in fact he was scared to death by the barbarians he looked down upon.
The sharp contrast between reality and imagination made Wang Qiang stand up and run away.
This shot marks Wang Qiang's impulse to escape from here.
But he had already resigned from his university position and could not return to the university where he had once been so ambitious.
From that day on, we can see that Wang Qiang's face is no longer as clean as it was in college.
Even if we look closely at Wang Qiang's clothes, we can see that the corners of his coat are probably tucked into his trousers.
Normal people would either take it out or stuff it all in, and would not do this kind of behavior of just stuffing the corners of their clothes in.
So, my inference is that Wang Qiang had already started to go crazy after Erhu slapped him.
Later, Wang Qiang's hysteria became more serious.
Think about it, would a brothel exist in a village?
At the very least, you can barely make money in places like towns with high traffic.
Then, the deaf-mute man.
Let’s not talk about whether the deaf-mute person is male or female.
It is absolutely ridiculous that deaf-mute people work in brothels.
Those who have a nightlife should know that dirty talk is also a kind of fun.
As a brothel staff member, naturally we hope that the customers will arrive as quickly as possible.
This can increase GMV and increase the daily revenue flow.
Therefore, brothels would not employ deaf-mute people or other disabled people.
Also, we can find that, putting aside all factors of harmony.
In "Country Love", there is no unspeakable behavior throughout the story. Even on the wedding night, when Wang Qiang was lying on the bed and the deaf-mute took off his clothes, he was definitely preparing to do something unspeakable.
But why has Wang Qiang been resisting?
Doesn’t he like deaf and dumb people?
Today is their big day, why resist?
I guess, because Wang Qiang is a virgin, it is natural for a virgin to not dream of unspeakable things.
So, all this was just Wang Qiang’s dream.
If we go back to the second half of the movie, we can find some flashbacks.
In the camera, Wang Qiang had messy hair and was climbing on a tree, smiling foolishly with his eyes narrowed into slits.
