Chapter 169 Happy New Year

Two months later.

Filming for "The Legend of Kyushu" is already more than halfway done. An Qingyan has been staying on set and has lost several pounds, while An Jing's scenes were filmed half a month ago.

An Qingyan was more concerned about his older brother's and his friend's relationship. "Why aren't you with my older brother yet? Didn't any of the tips I sent you work?"

"You don't need short videos," he muttered to himself.

Lu Yuqi glanced at him calmly, "Soon."

An Qingyan expressed doubt, "Really?"

Lu Yuqi: "Really, you should get in the car right away."

"Okay, I'll be going now. See you next year."

See you next year.

Tomorrow is Lunar New Year's Eve. The crew gave everyone a few days off to go home for the New Year. An Qingyan packed her bags and rushed to catch a plane back home. She really missed home after not being there for so long.

It was already evening when I got home. (Remember this link: https://m.)

Before he even reached his home, his entire family was already waiting at the door: his parents, his older brothers, his maternal grandparents who had returned from abroad for the New Year, and his uncle's family.

A large family, all together in a lively atmosphere.

They were all waiting for him to come home.

"Little brother, your second brother missed you so much!" An Yu was the first to rush up and give his younger brother a warm bear hug. The others also came over, and An Qingyan quickly greeted everyone.

"My dear grandson, it's been so long since we last met. Grandma has missed you so much. Let Grandma give you a hug."

"This kid looks a bit thinner. Filming must be very hard for him, right?"

"You've lost a lot of weight. Mom made your favorite dishes, so be sure to eat plenty later."

"Everyone, don't stand here any longer. It's cold outside, let's go back inside."

Everyone chatted amongst themselves, their smiling, loving gazes all focused on An Qingyan. As the youngest child in the family, and having only recently been reunited with his family, he had suffered so much outside, so naturally everyone would pay more attention to and care for him.

"Yes, I will definitely eat more. Mom's cooking is the best."

An Qingyan had a smile on his face, but his nose was a little sore. In all those years, he had never felt the warmth of home. Family and love are different, but they are equally important.

The next day was Lunar New Year's Eve.

The whole Anjia family was bustling with activity as they put up Spring Festival couplets and prepared for the New Year's Eve dinner. The dinner was very lavish, with a large table full of people chatting and laughing.

After the New Year's Eve dinner, everyone gathered in the living room to chat, eat snacks, and watch the Spring Festival Gala.

An Qingyan rarely spoke, but quietly watched and listened to everyone talking, a genuine smile on his handsome face. He was truly happy and content.

He remembers looking forward to the Chinese New Year when he was a child.

Because the food during the Lunar New Year is more plentiful, with fish, meat, and snacks that you can't usually eat, and you also receive lucky money, which, although not much, was a considerable sum for him at that time.

As he grew older, he stopped being happy about these little things and had no reason to look forward to the New Year anymore. For him, it was just an ordinary day.

While other families celebrate the New Year with joy and harmony, he never experienced that in that home; all he saw was arguments, complaints, and indifference.

Later, during the years after his debut, he never went back to that home for the Lunar New Year.

He stayed alone in his small house, cooked himself a pot of dumplings, watched the Spring Festival Gala, and at midnight, he wished himself a happy Spring Festival, trying to immerse himself in the holiday.

But... he wasn't happy at all.

"Yan Yan, what are you thinking about? Why are your eyes red?" An Jing looked at him with concern.

"It's nothing, I was just thinking about things from the past."

“It’s all in the past. This is the first Spring Festival our family has spent together. We should be happy.” An Jing peeled a tangerine and handed it to her younger brother, smiling as she said, “Your future days will be as sweet as this tangerine.”

An Qingyan popped the orange into his mouth, the sweet taste spreading throughout his mouth, a burst of juicy sweetness. He smiled, his eyes crinkling, "Mmm, it's really sweet."

"Hurry, hurry, hurry! It'll be twelve o'clock in one minute! Countdown, countdown!!" An Yu shouted excitedly.

"Sixty, fifty-nine, fifty-eight..."

An Qingyan quietly left the lively living room and went to the balcony outside. She watched the time on her phone tick by, and just as the second hand was about to reach "12", the phone rang.

He quickly answered the call.

The man's gentle, magnetic voice traveled through the phone's current into his ears, "Yan Yan, Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year!!!"

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

"Dad, Mom, Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, Happy New Year! Give me a red envelope!"

"You're so old and you still want red envelopes? Aren't you ashamed?"

"Where are Yan Yan and An Jing...?"

He seemed oblivious to the outside world; his mind was completely occupied by one person. An Qingyan wore a joyful smile and spoke earnestly and gently, "Gu Fei, Happy New Year."

May you have a smooth and worry-free life, and may all your wishes come true.

And... I'll be there every year.

...

On the other end, An Jing also received a call. He stood in the courtyard, listened to the person on the other end say "Happy New Year," and then fell silent. He chuckled and teased, "What? You're not going to say anything when you call me? Have you become mute?"

Lu Yuqi frowned, looking conflicted, "I..."

Happy New Year, Lu Yuqi.

"You've been pursuing me for so long, even though your methods are really quite old-fashioned..."

Lu Yuqi: "You!"

"Let me finish. It's a cliché, but it still works for me, because the person pursuing me is you." The young man on the other end was stunned. The man chuckled softly and said:

"Actually, I only asked you to pursue me to tease you. I didn't expect you to actually pursue me so obediently for so long, like a little fool. But I can't let you pursue me for nothing."

"So, now it's my turn to confess to you." An Jing took a deep breath, his gaze as gentle as moonlight, and asked tenderly and solemnly, "Lu Yuqi, I like you. In this new year, will you go out with me?"

To prevent air pollution and accidents, fireworks and firecrackers are banned in Nancheng. But at this moment, Lu Yuqi felt as if clusters of brilliant and magnificent fireworks were rising into the sky and exploding, crackling and popping, making his heart start to tremble.

His hand holding the phone trembled uncontrollably, something stuck in his throat, and he couldn't speak. "I...I'll reluctantly agree."

Even though he was so excited he was about to cry, Young Master Lu couldn't shake his habit of saying one thing but meaning another, but his choked-up tone still betrayed his true feelings.

An Jing chuckled softly, "Very well, I am extremely pleased."

"I... I'll stop talking now!"

After hastily finishing his sentence, Lu Yuqi hurriedly hung up the phone, his hands still trembling uncontrollably. No one knew that the star he had been gazing at for so long was finally coming to him.

He couldn't help but laugh, but the corners of his eyes reddened.

"Hey bro, what are you doing standing here?"

Lu Sheng walked over and was immediately shocked when he saw his younger brother's appearance. "What's wrong with you? Why are you all smiles and lovestruck? Oh my god, why are your eyes red? You're actually crying from being so moved during the New Year?"

Lu Yuqi immediately straightened his face, "I just got sand in my eye!"

Lu Sheng: "You can actually come up with such a cliché excuse?!"

Just then, Gu Fei, who happened to be passing by, glanced in that direction and, as if he saw through everything, suddenly interjected, "It's probably springtime."

During the Spring Festival, Butler Shen and the other servants went back to their hometowns, leaving only Yu Qingtong and Gu Fei and their son in the Gu family. The huge house was empty and desolate, so Yu Qingtong brought her son to her sister's house for the Spring Festival.

Lu Sheng was puzzled. "With this howling wind, where is spring?"

"What are you three doing standing outside? It's so cold. Come on in," Yu Qingwan called out.

"Here, take this red envelope. This is from Gu Fei."

Gu Fei gladly accepted it, "Thank you, Auntie."

Yu Qingtong couldn't help but laugh and said, "He's so grown up now, there's no need to give him a red envelope."

“It’s Chinese New Year, it’s all about good luck, and unmarried kids all get red envelopes.” At this point, Yu Qingwan asked the question elders often ask when you go home for the New Year: “Gu Fei, you’re not getting any younger, it’s time you found someone. How about your aunt introduces you to someone?”

Gu Fei: "No need, I already have a boyfriend."

Yu Qingwan was surprised. "Really? When did you find him?" She knew her nephew well; he was always indifferent to worldly affairs and not very interested in anything outside of work.

Yu Qingtong nodded and said with a smile, "Really."

However, her future in-laws are unaware of this matter yet.

"Now that you've found someone, that's great! When are you going to bring them home to meet your aunt?"

Gu Fei: "Soon."

“Okay, Auntie will wait.” Yu Qingwan then looked at the two brothers, Lu Sheng and Lu Yuqi, “Did you two hear that? You should follow your cousin’s example and find a partner soon… Wait, no, Qiqi, you’re still young, no rush.”

Lu Yuqi: "..."

It has just been found.

It was just past midnight, and everyone was still awake, chatting and eating sunflower seeds. Gu Fei sent a message to Lu Yuqi, who was sitting opposite her, seemingly lost in thought:

[Should we go to Anjia?]

Lu Yuqi glanced at him and decisively replied: 【Go!】

Then they stood up at the same time, and under the puzzled gazes of the crowd, made an excuse to leave.

Gu Fei was driving, and as soon as the car entered the highway, Lu Yuqi received a call from An Jing. He hesitated for a moment before answering, wondering if she was going to change her mind.

"Why did you hang up so suddenly? Were you shy? Aren't you usually very brave?" An Jing teased for a moment before saying, "Send me your address, I'm coming to find you. I want to kiss and hug my little boyfriend."

Lu Yuqi scratched the back of his head somewhat awkwardly. "No need, I'm already... on my way to your house."

An Jing: "Oh, you've come to me willingly? Aren't you afraid I'll eat you up?"

Although it wasn't hands-free, Gu Fei, who could still hear what An Jing was saying, gripped the steering wheel tighter. He now seemed to understand An Jing's feelings at the time.

It's like having your own cabbage eaten by a pig.
