Chapter 118 New Home
"Are we really going to move there?"
The movers looked at the rather impressive plant on the balcony and hesitated, saying, "This flowerpot is too big, and the branches are so lush; it's easy for it to break during transport."
Lin Xili stood by the balcony door, looking at the blue plumbago that Huo Nanchen had given her for the first time. It had long since been replaced by a large pot, which now covered the entire balcony.
This potted plant witnessed both her most difficult wait and her happiest moments.
"If you need to move it, I'll trouble you, and I'll give you extra money," Lin Xili said.
Huo Nanchen walked over and squatted down. "You can cut some branches before moving it. I'll help you."
The two movers exchanged a glance and nodded. Under Huo Nanchen's guidance, they separated the blue plumbago from the flower stand. Huo Nanchen trimmed some branches, and the movers secured the flowerpot with ropes.
The new apartment on the twelfth floor of Greenview Garden.
Huo Nanchen was busy in the kitchen. After a long day of moving, he insisted on cooking his first dinner himself.
Lin Xili then went into the master bedroom and began unpacking and organizing clothes.
The wardrobe was large enough to hold both of their clothes for all four seasons. She hung up her business attire and loungewear one by one, and then carefully ironed Huo Nanchen's white shirts and suits before hanging them up.
The bookshelves in the other living room, which were transformed into a study, had already been categorized and placed on by the moving company.
Lin Xili went to water the blue snowflakes on the balcony before going into the kitchen.
"Dinner is ready." Huo Nanchen turned off the stove and plated the stir-fried vegetables.
The two sat down at the restaurant, where a rectangular table faced the floor-to-ceiling windows, with the river view serving as the most captivating backdrop.
Huo Nanchen opened a bottle of red wine and poured it into two wine glasses.
Lin Xili raised her glass and looked at Huo Nanchen sitting opposite her. He was dressed casually today, in light gray pajamas, and his hair was slightly messy from being busy, but he looked relaxed.
“Mr. Huo,” she said softly, “this is our home.”
Huo Nanchen also raised his glass and gently clinked it against hers, the clinking of the glass adding to the festive atmosphere of their new home.
"Mrs. Huo, welcome home."
After the meal, Huo Nanchen cleared away the dishes, while Lin Xili brewed a pot of tea.
The two moved to the sofa in the study and, as they had done countless nights before, each picked up a book.
Huo Nanchen was reading the latest medical journal, while Lin Xili was holding a book titled "Trace Analysis of Criminal Evidence".
After flipping through a few pages, Lin Xili pointed to a passage and asked Huo Nanchen, "I don't quite understand this part?"
The advanced level is much more difficult, with a pass rate of less than 3% each year, requiring a greater amount of effort to prepare. However, she has Huo Nanchen.
Huo Nanchen put down the medical journal in his hand and looked down at the text she was pointing to.
"This can be compared to the concept of a contamination chain in clinical medicine. Physical evidence is actually like cells, produced through a process of transfer..."
"Wait a minute, let me write this down first." Lin Xili picked up the ballpoint pen next to her and began to write it down carefully.
Time flowed slowly amidst the turning of pages and the sound of explanations; such days were wonderful.
"Huo Nanchen," she suddenly called softly.
"Um?"
"Um..." Her voice suddenly trailed off, her ears turning slightly red, "My ovulation period has arrived."
He looked at Lin Xili, noticing the faint shadow of fatigue under her eyes. She had been busy with the move today and was indeed exhausted.
"But you were too tired from moving today. You need to be in good physical condition during this period. We can wait until the next cycle."
Lin Xili shook her head, a sly smile on her face: "It's nothing, Dr. Huo. You don't really need to drink leek and pig tail soup, do you? I'll make it for you tomorrow, okay?"
He coughed lightly, trying to maintain his composure: "I don't need soup, my strength will be just as good."
“Well…” Lin Xili leaned closer, her eyes sparkling, “It just so happens that we have a long weekend off today and tomorrow to move, so we can get a good rest tomorrow.”
He was silent for a few seconds, then reached out and gently grasped her wrist. Lin Xili thought he was going to say something, but unexpectedly he suddenly used force and picked her up horizontally.
"Ah!" Lin Xili gasped softly, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck. "You..."
“Since you insist,” Huo Nanchen’s voice rang in her ear, “then let’s make the most of this period.”
"Wait a minute," Lin Xili suddenly said just as Huo Nanchen was about to put her on the bed, "I'm going to get dressed."
Huo Nanchen paused, looking down at her: "What clothes?"
Lin Xili blushed. "You seemed to really like that sexy nightgown you wore on our wedding night."
Upon hearing this, Huo Nanchen's ears turned completely red.
His voice was a little strained: "Did you bring that?"
"Mm." Lin Xili nodded, got out of bed, and walked towards the dressing room. "I brought this specially."
She opened a drawer, picked up her pajamas, and glanced at Huo Nanchen. He was standing at the bedroom door, looking at her with eyes as deep as the surface of a river at night.
Lin Xili went into the bathroom to change her clothes, and the bright red color in the mirror still made her heart race.
She took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and went out.
In the bedroom, Huo Nanchen was still standing there. When he saw her come out, his gaze lingered on her for a long time.
From her slightly flushed cheeks to the curves outlined by the red silk, and then to her fingertips that trembled slightly with nervousness.
Huo Nanchen walked towards her slowly. He stopped in front of her, reached out, and gently touched the thin strap of her shoulder with his fingertips.
"Aren't you tired?" he asked, his voice low and hoarse.
Lin Xili shook her head, tiptoed, and gently kissed his lips: "With you, I'm not tired."
These words were like a switch, causing Huo Nanchen's last bit of restraint to completely collapse. He lowered his head, kissed her deeply, wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled her completely into his embrace.
"Huo Nanchen," she whispered in the darkness.
"Um."
"We'll have a wonderful home, won't we?"
"Yes." He tightened his arms, holding her even closer. "We will have a wonderful home, healthy children, and an ordinary but happy life."
Lin Xili closed her eyes contentedly.
She knew that there might still be storms ahead and challenges in life.
But in this haven they built together, she and he could both believe that all their promises would come true.
