Chapter 36: Holding the man's hand, she hovered in mid-air, hesitated for a moment, and then...
No one spoke in the kitchen, only the bubbling, restless sound of boiling soup.
Yu Tang thought about it seriously for a while, and finally said, "Could it be that you want me to..."
Yu Chaoxian didn't interrupt her, letting her guess slowly. He still had enough patience to lure this clueless pet into the cage.
"I understand." The girl glanced at the unsmoked cigarette she had tossed aside, her initial realization turning into certainty. "You want me to run errands for you and get a lighter, right?"
In the past, she had to run errands for Yu Chaoxian for whatever she wanted, whether it was pocket money or something delicious. So Yu Tang naturally assumed that if she wanted anything from Yu Chaoxian, she should do something for him first.
The light above Yu Tang was shrouded by the man, and Yu Chaoxian's figure covered her entire body, like a net pouring down.
The shadows accentuated the sharp lines of his face. Yu Chaoxian frowned, his patience vanishing instantly: "If you can't speak properly, then don't speak."
Yu Tang thought to herself, "What kind of person is he? So unpredictable! He's the one who lets me speak, and he's the one who tells me not to speak. Besides, why can't I speak? I don't want to argue with him. Haven't we argued enough all night? Besides, I'm always scared after arguing with Yu Chaoxian. My brother is in the hospital now. If I really anger Yu Chaoxian one day, he might really throw me out."
She had seen beggars under the overpass before; if she had no money for food, she would have to find a cardboard box to live in.
Yu Tang placed her hand on her chest, and could clearly feel the vibration in his chest. "What's wrong with you? You seem to be acting really strange all of a sudden?"
"What's so strange?" He leaned closer, his eyelashes obscuring his eyes, his knees pressing against her. "Tell me?"
Yu Tang's legs were forced apart by Yu Chaoxian's knees. She subconsciously tried to close her legs, but this action was tantamount to directly encircling Yu Chaoxian with her legs. She had no choice but to spread her legs even wider and move back a little.
But separating them seems even stranger, as if it's condoning Yu Chaoxian squeezing his leg in.
She tilted her head to look at him, but couldn't quite put her finger on what was strange about him. Besides the scent of shower gel, Yu Chaoxian also had a hot, rich fragrance that Yu Tang found unfamiliar.
An extremely strong sense of aggression was slowly approaching her, and Yu Tang found it difficult to breathe.
She didn't say it, so he said it for her: "You said before that you wanted to eat mango sticky rice, try Romanée-Conti wine, go to the aquarium, and have endless pocket money."
He could easily provide all of these.
But what he wanted to give Yu Tang was not just these things.
"Tangtang," he asked again, getting closer and closer, his tone both enticing and coaxing, "think carefully, what else do you want?"
Yu Tang isn't stupid. She can drink all the wine she wants, spend all the money she wants, and eat all the glutinous rice she wants. Her wishes were fake. Heaven didn't grant her any of them, otherwise she wouldn't be all alone now.
"Don't want those." Yu Tang grasped Yu Chaoxian's hand, both stopping him from stroking her face. "Can't I want you? I want you."
As if afraid he might not hear her clearly, she repeated it again.
Having been born into the Yu Dynasty is tantamount to having all of this. Her brother left her shares, but she doesn't know how to manage money or run a company. Who knows if she'll run out of money and starve to death?
Therefore, the safest way to live for now is to stay obediently by Yu Chaoxian's side. Once she goes to university and has the ability to support herself, she shouldn't be afraid of being abandoned by anyone anymore. Yu Tang thought to herself, "It's only four more years of university."
Yu Tang admitted that she was a bit greedy, but today's greed pleased Yu Chaoxian.
Yu Chaoxian stared into her eyes, her beautiful eyes dark and bewildered, and his dark eyes held the same unmistakable gaze.
He glanced down at Yu Tang's hand pressed against his chest, then grabbed it tightly. In the end, Yu Tang was honest; she was honest about being afraid of him before, and she was honest about wanting him now, her thoughts written all over her face.
He stopped dwelling on what happened at the park; it was normal for a naive girl to be curious. She could try it, but only with him. It was only a little over two weeks; waiting a bit longer wouldn't hurt.
“Okay,” Yu Chaoxian said, letting her grasp his wrist, and slowly opened his thin lips. “Yu Tang, you said these words yourself, so you had better remember them well.”
Yu Tang felt as if her wrists were shackled, and she felt inexplicably resistant. Unable to pull her hands away, she could only obediently repeat his words: "I remember."
Yu Chaoxian stared at her, his eyes darkening. He hoped she would really remember it.
"It's time to add the vegetables, or the noodles will be overcooked!" Yu Tang couldn't bear to waste her hard work, so she struggled to jump down. The moment she lifted her waist and her body was airborne, she landed in the man's strong arms.
Yu Chaoxian simply grabbed her with one arm and lifted her up, then casually picked up some greens and put them into the boiling pot as he turned around.
"Take two bowls and wait for me outside." Yu Chaoxian pinched Yu Tang's dazed face and turned her chin to look at the cupboard. "The bowls and chopsticks are there, and the doorway is over there."
"Okay, okay." Yu Tang agreed obediently and took her bowl and chopsticks to the dining table.
Besides instant noodles, Yu Tang also made two milkshakes on the table. Milkshakes were clearly not what Yu Chaoxian liked, so he asked her to get some ice-cold beer.
Yu Tang picked up her milkshake and clinked glasses with Yu Chaoxian's beer. She remembered that Yu Chaoxian and her brother clinked glasses like this when they drank together. "Eat up, the bacon is a little burnt though." The bacon and egg and shrimp were served two portions each.
Yu Chao took a bite first, "It's alright, it's crunchy."
He added, "The salad is well-mixed."
Yu Tang frankly admitted, "The dressing for the salad was bought at a convenience store before."
Yu Chaoxian praised, "It's rare to see someone so knowledgeable about buying sauces."
Yu Tang was secretly pleased; her nephew was quite adorable when he spoke properly.
Yu Chaoxian slowly drank his wine, squinting at the person drinking the milkshake. He had just returned then, and they had dinner together. At the dinner table, this little aunt seemed annoying no matter how you looked at her, but now, upon closer inspection, she had quite a few endearing qualities. A faint smile played on his lips, but his gaze gradually deepened.
Yu Tang took a bite of the noodles and inwardly praised herself for being a natural-born chef, able to cook such delicious instant noodles even though she doesn't cook often.
She suddenly looked up, meeting his gaze before he could look away. Seeing that he didn't find anything objectionable, she figured he was satisfied with the taste.
So satisfied was he that he was so engrossed in eating that he forgot to scold her for going out to play that night.
The noodles were quickly finished, and Yu Tang unceremoniously drank the other milkshake that Yu Chaoxian hadn't even touched.
She glanced at the balcony, where Yu Chaoxian was smoking. Afterward, he went to the sofa in the living room to watch TV, seemingly a movie, but she couldn't tell whether he was in a good or bad mood.
Yu Tang went upstairs to take a shower. When she entered her room, she saw a pile of shopping bags outside her door, all of which contained clothes and shoes in her size. Yu Tang felt even more guilty. Yu Chaoxian hadn't forgotten to buy her a gift before leaving, but she had argued with him and had overlooked the light blue casual shirt that had been thrown away in the trash can next to her.
"I've been waiting for you at home for the past fourteen days, really, but I didn't wait today..." Yu Tang, who had just taken a shower, came over wearing a trumpet-flower nightgown and carrying fruit. She wanted to mend the relationship between her aunt and niece, so she apologized as soon as she arrived.
She also felt quite unlucky. She had been well-behaved for fourteen days, only to go out tonight, and then Yu Chaoxian came back today and she was caught red-handed.
Yu Chao ignored her, letting her chatter on, only glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. Yu Tang had clearly just finished showering; a few strands of half-wet hair still hung down her collar.
The fragrant shower gel had a sweet scent, and Yu Tang washed herself until she felt fair and smooth. Yu Chaoxian was a little thirsty, so he picked up an orange and ate it.
Yu Tang thoughtfully divided the orange into segments, making it easier to eat.
Yu Tang watched as he ate it with apparent relish, but she remembered that these oranges weren't sweet and were just used for garnish to make the plate look nice: "Isn't it sour?"
Yu Chaoxian silently ate another slice, seemingly enjoying it immensely.
Yu Chaoxian is very picky about food; he won't touch anything he doesn't like. But he ate two segments of the orange, which shows it was sweet.
Seeing that he was enjoying it, Yu Tang also took a slice and bit into it without any precautions. The next second, her whole face scrunched up – it was so sour that her eyes welled up with tears!
Yu Chaoxian was in a great mood. He had been thinking about it all night and decided he still had to teach her a lesson. Yu Tang angrily punched his shoulder, but he grabbed her wrist with a smile.
"Tangtang," the man leaned closer, his breath carrying the crisp scent of oranges and beer, "go get the wine, I'll take you out to eat tomorrow."
When food was mentioned, Yu Tang's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Completely forgetting that Yu Chaoxian had tricked her into eating sour oranges, Yu Tang happily went to get beer for Yu Chaoxian again.
Yu Chaoxian watched a movie while drinking, and Yu Tang lay on the sofa watching along. Yu Chaoxian didn't talk while watching the movie, unlike Mo Fei who could chat with her. Yu Tang was bored and soon fell asleep, her legs kicking off somewhere.
Only a dim floor lamp illuminated the living room, and the light from the television screen flickered on the wall. The man leaned lazily against one end of the sofa.
Yu Tang curled up at the other end, hugging a soft cushion. At first, she forced her eyelids open and mumbled a few words about the plot to Yu Chaoxian from time to time, to which Yu Chaoxian responded with a few half-hearted "hmm".
Gradually, Yu Tang's eyelids drooped heavily, and she eventually slumped against the cushions.
While fast asleep, his body instinctively positioned itself in the most comfortable position, with his legs straight and his toes unconsciously resting lightly on Yu Chaoxian's thighs.
The man glanced down, then remained still, letting the faint warmth emanate from his leg. In her dream, Yu Tang kicked her leg again, this time pressing her entire foot against the warm surface, unconsciously rubbing against it as if searching for a more comfortable position.
She used to pull her ankle away from him in the car, but now she boldly puts her foot on his leg, her toes pressing against the teeth marks she had when she was a child.
The dialogue on the TV became background noise, so Yu Chao turned the volume down. He pulled a blanket over her and gently covered her with it. The movement was very light, but it still made her groan.
But he slept soundly and did not wake up.
Her fair foot remained stubbornly on his leg. The man's hand hovered in mid-air. After a moment's hesitation, it landed on her ankle, his thumb unconsciously rubbing the protruding knuckle.
Grasp it firmly.
