Chapter 643: Couples' Therapy

Wang Xie glanced at the form for a few seconds, then looked at Professor Wu. "Can you tell me more about the situation? Is my friend sick?"

"Mr. Wang, please have your friend fill out this form first. Then, I'll review it and make my assessment of his condition. Make sure he fills it out truthfully and doesn't hide anything, otherwise it will affect my judgment. Being ill isn't scary, but early intervention and treatment are essential."

Wang Xie agreed with what Professor Wu said and nodded repeatedly. A hint of sadness flashed across Wang Xie's eyes. "Professor Wu, can you explain to me clearly what post-traumatic stress disorder is?"

"I can tell you in detail."

"Can I record this? I want to share it with my friends."

Professor Wu nodded, and immediately, Wang Xie took out the recorder and turned on the recording function.

"Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD for short, has three core symptom groups: traumatic re-experiencing symptoms, avoidance and numbing symptoms, and heightened alertness symptoms.

Traumatic re-experiencing symptoms manifest as repeated and involuntary recurrence of trauma-related situations or content in the patient's thoughts, memories, or dreams. Severe emotional reactions may also occur, and the patient may even feel as if the traumatic event is happening again.

Avoidance and numbing symptoms primarily manifest as patients' persistent or prolonged avoidance of events or situations related to the traumatic experience, including refusal to participate in related activities and avoidance of traumatic locations or people or things associated with the trauma. Some patients even experience selective amnesia, unable to recall details of the traumatic events.

Symptoms of increased alertness mainly include difficulty falling asleep, being easily frightened, anxiety, inattention, palpitations and shortness of breath, etc.

Patients may have three core symptoms at the same time. Generally, the disease will occur within a few days or six months after the traumatic event. The course of the disease lasts at least one month, and can last for several months or years, and in some cases even up to ten years.

After a major traumatic event, psychological first aid is usually provided, and early intervention and counseling are necessary. During treatment, relapses are common, and patients need support from those around them who can provide them with a sense of trust.

Your friend's wife said he has post-traumatic stress disorder, so she's a doctor, right?"

After hesitating for a moment, Wang Xie confessed, "Yes! Actually, my good friend's wife is Jin Xue, and there are indeed problems between them."

Professor Wu's eyes met Wang Xie's sharply. "If this is Jin Xue's assessment, then your friend's condition is likely post-traumatic stress disorder. We just need to determine exactly what his core symptoms are. If your friend wants treatment, it's best for him and his wife to receive it together."

After receiving a relatively sincere answer, Wang Xie's expression changed slightly and his mood suddenly became heavy.

I didn't see a doctor, but when I did, I realized there was a real problem, and it was a very serious one.

Fortunately, Jin Xue mentioned it and he took it seriously and immediately called Professor Wu to communicate. Otherwise, I don’t know how serious Jiang Yu’s condition would be.

Things have come to this point. Jin Xue should have had a frank talk with Jiang Yu earlier and accompanied him in treatment, but she didn't say anything to Jiang Yu.

Ultimately, Jin Xue still didn't want to face Zhou Jie and Jiang Yu's past.

This couple really should see a psychiatrist. It takes two to tango, and they shouldn't just blame each other.

"Thank you very much, Professor Wu. I urge them to come see you as soon as possible."

"I'm willing to help them, but I can't do it alone. I need my wife's support and companionship, and we need to work together."
