A white light flashed, and Ji Yunhuan felt her arms lighten. A beautiful Persian cat was lying in her arms. There was a long wound on the Persian cat's abdomen, and it was still bleeding.
The transformation pill only worked on the emperor himself. The emperor's clothes slipped down and were pulled back by Ji Yunhuan's quick eyes and hands. She tore off a piece of clothes and wrapped the Persian cat's wound, barely stopping the bleeding.
"Treading on Snow Without Leaving a Trace" finally showed its original effect. The speed was indeed top-notch, leaving the thieves far behind. Ji Yunhuan did not dare to stop and ran forward desperately. It was not until she saw the familiar manor that she realized that she had left the city.
This is one of the estates under his mother's name, right on the edge of the capital. Ji Yunhuan often comes here to hang out, and is as familiar with it as his own backyard.
Without disturbing anyone, she went to the back mountain alone, dug a hole and buried the emperor's clothes in it. As for the emperor's miscellaneous items, she collected them for the time being, as they might be useful in the future.
After doing all this, Ji Yunhuan sneezed violently, but still opened his coat and held the injured Persian cat in his arms to prevent him from getting wet in the rain.
The city gate was closed. Ji Yunhuan gritted his teeth and bought the "Treading Snow Without Leaking" ticket again. He entered the city quietly and soon arrived at the Prime Minister's Mansion.
————
The lights in Linlang Garden were on. Qiao Yue was kneeling in the middle of the yard, her head held high, a look of defiance on her face.
The old lady was sitting in the corridor, with her hair in a high bun, adorned with a gold hairpin, and she was wearing a brocade with flower and bird patterns, with a precious sable coat covering her legs, exuding the air of wealth and nobility.
"How dare you! You're just a girl that our family bought with two taels of silver, and you dare to argue with me! Tell me! Where is Ji Yunhuan?"
Qiao Yue said in a daze, "I was bought by Madam for Young Lady, so naturally I must obey Young Lady. Old Madam, you have no right to control me."
"You're rebelling! You're absolutely rebelling!" The old lady pointed at Qiao Yue, shaking with anger. "You refuse to speak, right? Come on, slap me in the face! I wonder how long you can keep your stubbornness going."
Qiao Yue shuddered. She was indeed not afraid of the old maids, but she did not expect the old lady to come in person. She couldn't kick the old lady out, right?
As soon as the old lady gave an order, a nanny came over with a heavy ruler. Qiao Yue subconsciously closed her eyes.
"Stop!" Ji Yunhuan kicked open the courtyard door and rushed in holding the Persian cat. "Qiaoyue is mine. No one is allowed to touch her without my permission!"
Qiao Yue stood up upon hearing the voice, her back straightened and her spirit even stronger. She immediately pushed the nanny aside and rushed to the young lady's side, asking about her well-being:
"Miss, are you okay? Why are you so damp? Come in quickly. I'll make you a bowl of ginger soup to dispel the cold."
The old lady hated Ji Yunhuan's unruly behavior the most. Her rage intensified, and she slapped her thigh and yelled, "Stop right there! Kneel down! I have something to ask you."
Ji Yunhuan has never liked the old lady. She is obviously the old lady's granddaughter, but the old lady always favors Shangguan Ruoxue and punishes her at every turn.
After living a new life, she has come to terms with it. The old lady doesn't have much time left to live, so why should she be angry with an old lady?
Ji Yunhuan kindly reminded her, "Grandma, if you want to live a long life, you'd better stay away from Shangguan Ruoxue. I'm tired. Let's talk tomorrow."
Shangguan Ruoxue was standing behind the old lady. She was dressed in white without any decoration on her body. She looked even plainer than the maids in the Prime Minister's Mansion. Her big eyes seemed to be always filled with tears, and she cried before she spoke a word. She was so pitiful.
"What do you mean, cousin? I know I have a bad fate. My parents died early. I live under someone else's roof in the Prime Minister's Mansion. I am careful and cautious in every step, afraid of angering you. But why don't you let me go? Do you have to wait for my death for you to be happy?"
The old lady was extremely distressed and immediately took Shangguan Ruoxue's hand to comfort her, saying, "Don't listen to what people outside say. Xue'er is gentle and virtuous. They are jealous of you and say that you have a hard fate and will not marry. It's all nonsense."
Shangguan Ruoxue cried for a few times and then started coughing. She covered her mouth with a handkerchief, her cheeks red from coughing. "Luckily, the old lady is here, otherwise I don't know what life would be like for Xue'er."
"My cousin must have misunderstood Xue'er. Xue'er really didn't seduce Brother Haochang. He was the one who came over and talked to Xue'er. I know that my status is low and I'm not worthy of Brother Haochang. My cousin and Brother Haochang are a perfect match. Xue'er apologizes to my cousin and only asks that you don't embarrass Xue'er again in the future."
Shangguan Ruoxue coughed with every step she took, but insisted on standing up to bow and apologize to Ji Yunhuan, with an expression of enduring humiliation, as if Ji Yunhuan had bullied her.
The old lady felt even more disgusted with Ji Yunhuan. "If you were even one-tenth as sensible as Xue'er, I would be completely satisfied!"
Ji Yunhuan didn't even have a chance to speak before the old lady condemned her. "Many people saw it at the time. It was you who pushed Xue'er into the water. You are so vicious. Who would dare to marry you in the future? It's a misfortune for the Prime Minister's Mansion to have a legitimate daughter like you!"
"While you are still married, I must temper your temper. Today I will spank you twenty times as a punishment. From now on, you will study hard at home. If you cannot memorize the Women's Virtues and Precepts, you are not allowed to step out of your room!"
Ji Yunhuan got a headache when he heard about women's virtues and precepts, but Shangguan Ruoxue could recite these two "classics" by heart. However, she only read idle books during class and liked to skip classes to go out and play, which made the female teacher very angry.
Thinking of those long and boring words that looked like an old lady's foot binding, Ji Yunhuan felt his scalp tingling, his vision went dark, and he fell down.
