Chapter 10 Clarification

When Shi Jing returned home and opened the door, he was surprised to find that Ms. Yan was actually home today.

Ms. Yan was sitting on the sofa watching TV, but her complexion was not good, and her eyes kept glancing towards the door.

When she saw Shi Jing return, she immediately stood up from the sofa and slammed her hand to turn off the TV.

Shi Jing was taken aback by her series of actions and looked at her suspiciously: "Mom, what's wrong with you?"

Ms. Yan walked up to Shi Jing in a few steps, looked at her and asked, "Did you have your midterm exams a few days ago?"

Shi Jing nodded, looking puzzled.

Ms. Yan looked at her with exasperation and scolded, "You said you were going to take the exam, so why did you have to cheat? Your grades have never been good. Although I often criticize you, I haven't really done anything to you, have I?"

Cheating? How did these baseless rumors reach Ms. Yan's ears? Who's watching her like this? Shi Jing was utterly puzzled.

She explained, "Mom, who told you that? It's not true."

"You're still hiding this from me? Your dad called me and said you cheated on the exam and embarrassed the whole school, so he's going to transfer you to another school." As Ms. Yan spoke, she seemed to remember something and then snorted irritably, "Your dad is so busy, he doesn't have time to care about this. It must have been that vixen who told on you!"

At this moment, Shi Jing also realized that her cheap father's new mistress had been keeping an eye on her all along.

Could this person have been behind the homeroom teacher's sudden targeting of the class?

Before she could think any further, Ms. Yan continued, "You should call your dad right away and apologize, tell him you won't cheat again. If you just transfer schools like this, people will laugh at you."

Shi Jing remained silent. She didn't have any illusions about these parents, but wasn't it a bit too arbitrary to assume she had cheated without listening to any explanation?

"Mom, I really didn't cheat. I already proved it to the school principal and the others today," Shi Jing reassured her. "I'll call Dad later to explain."

"What does this mean?" Ms. Yan asked, puzzled. She knew her daughter's grades had always been poor, and when she heard Mr. Shi mention Shi Jing's midterm exam results, her first thought was that Shi Jing had cheated.

Shi Jing had no choice but to continue explaining, "Ever since you and Dad divorced, I've realized that Dad isn't reliable. I'll have to rely on myself from now on, so I've decided to study hard from now on. This time, I got my grades myself; I didn't cheat." After a slight pause, she continued, "Today at school, I redid the test paper in front of the teachers to prove to them that I didn't cheat. Don't worry."

Ms. Yan's expression relaxed for a moment, but then a hint of anger reappeared on her face. This time it wasn't directed at Shi Jing: "What do you school leaders mean by this? You didn't even tell us parents before you accused you of cheating and made you retake the exam?"

"Mom, don't be angry. Now that I've passed the test in front of the teachers, they won't keep suspecting me of cheating anymore. Don't worry, I'll call Dad now and tell him about it."

"Why are you making calls? I'll make the call myself." Ms. Yan angrily pulled out her phone and dialed the number.

The call was answered quickly.

"Hey, you surnamed Shi, what do you mean by this? Why are you suspecting your daughter of cheating without any basis? Do you even have the right to be a father?..."

Ms. Yan unleashed a barrage of attacks like a machine gun, leaving Shi Jing dumbfounded as the person who had been accusing her suddenly turned her fire on another person.

She could only tell herself to stay calm and mind her own business.

After returning to her room and putting down her schoolbag, Shi Jing found dinner laid out on the dining table as usual. Ms. Yan was still chatting away on the balcony, showing no interest in eating. Shi Jing tried to call her, but she waved her hand dismissively, telling her to go play by herself.

Shi Jing had no choice but to eat alone. As a student, she needed to finish her meal quickly so she could continue studying.

After finishing her meal and washing the dishes, Ms. Yan's phone call wasn't over yet. She had no choice but to go back to her room. As for her adoptive father, she'd leave him to Ms. Yan.

The night was relatively quiet. By the time Shi Jing was ready to rest, Ms. Yan was no longer in the living room. It was unclear whether she had gone out or gone back to her room to rest.

She didn't pay much attention and went straight to washing up and resting.

The next morning, Ms. Yan got up early to buy breakfast, her face beaming with joy.

"mom?"

"Xiaojing, you're awake! Come on, go wash up and come have breakfast." Ms. Yan said with a smile.

Shi Jing was somewhat puzzled. After washing up, she sat down at the table with a surprised look on her face.

"Mom, what happened that made you so happy?"

“Yesterday I talked to Dad on the phone for two hours. He promised to take you back to stay for a while during the summer vacation, and he also increased your monthly allowance.”

"Huh?" What a good thing this is! She didn't want to go back to her father's place at all.

Seeing Shi Jing's resistance, Ms. Yan glared at her: "You child, how come you're getting sillier and sillier? Before that vixen's child is born, why don't you hurry up and cultivate your relationship with your father? Otherwise, your father's family property will all end up in the hands of that vixen."

"Mom, we're doing fine now."

“What’s so good about it? Your father is heartless. He kicked us out and we’re living in this lousy place where it’s hard to even turn around.”

Upon hearing this, Shi Jing suddenly felt a headache coming on.

"Mom, I'm going to be late for school. Let's talk about it later..."

She grabbed a pancake from the table, picked up her schoolbag, and hurriedly ran out.

Today, the homeroom teacher is going to clarify things in front of the whole class. I suppose she'll be able to relax after this.

Just thinking about it makes me feel good.

She walked briskly through the campus, not caring at all about the stares from others.

Over the past month, she has gotten used to being watched.

The homeroom teacher, who usually comes to the classroom frequently, arrived late today. He only showed up just as the bell rang, when he had a class of his and there was no way to avoid it.

He stood on the podium, his lesson plan closed, taking deep breaths, one after another, as if preparing himself mentally.

Finally, he said in a deep voice, "There is something I need to clarify with everyone today. The teachers and everyone else have misunderstood Shi Jing." The homeroom teacher downplayed the issue, saying, "The teachers and the two directors have confirmed that Shi Jing's exam results are genuine and valid, and there was no cheating or manipulation involved."

Upon hearing this, the students below the stage all turned to look at Shi Jing.

Shi Jing stood up: "Thank you, teacher, for clarifying things for me. And thank you, Director Yu and Director Li, for giving me the opportunity to prove myself and retake the exam."

The homeroom teacher looked displeased but didn't know what to say, so he could only say, "It's only right. It's time for class now, Shi, please sit down."

"yes."

After all, he was the homeroom teacher. Although Shi Jing disliked him, she wouldn't openly clash with him.

Shi Jing responded and sat down obediently.
