Chapter 7 Questioning

As a student who was under a lot of "scrutiny" at school, her remarks quickly spread among her classmates, and many students were discussing whether Shi Jing had cheated.

Some students felt that the Dean of Students, Li Tao, was always serious and formidable, and no one could successfully cheat under his supervision. However, other students thought it was unbelievable that a student who was at the bottom of the grade could suddenly rise to the top of the grade, and there must be something wrong with it.

This viewpoint is clearly not limited to students; some teachers also share the same skepticism.

However, given Li Tao's role as proctor, most of the teachers who had doubts dared not speak out. But Shi Jing's homeroom teacher was an exception.

Logically speaking, in a school full of rich kids, the teachers here should be of high quality in all aspects, or rather, there shouldn't be any teachers who are brainless.

But, ironically, reason is meant to be broken.

Shi Jing's homeroom teacher was such an exception.

While no one in the class directly questioned Shi Jing about whether she had cheated on the exam, the homeroom teacher, for the first time ever, called her out of the classroom and bluntly questioned her at the classroom door: "Shi Jing, did you cheat on this exam?"

The homeroom teacher's voice was quite loud, and many students in this class and neighboring classes heard it. Some curious students had already been eavesdropping by the windows and doors.

Shi Jing thought back to his memories and realized that the original owner of this body had never offended this teacher. Was this homeroom teacher's outburst due to low emotional intelligence or was it intentional?

If it was done intentionally, then who instructed them?

She looked directly into her homeroom teacher's eyes: "Teacher, everyone in the class has seen how hard I've been studying these past few days. Why did you immediately assume I cheated, just because my grades weren't good in the past?"

The homeroom teacher's gaze darted away slightly, clearly indicating that he was also somewhat guilty about doing such a thing: "I'm not doubting you, I just want to confirm."

Shi Jing, however, did not let him off the hook. She pretended to be pitiful and said, "I know that a student like me with poor grades is not as trusted by you as a good student, but you don't need to doubt my character in front of so many classmates."

She paused deliberately for a moment, then said, "If you suspect there's something wrong with my grades, you can check the classroom surveillance footage from the day of the exam. If you still don't trust the surveillance footage, you can also ask Director Li; he was the proctor that day."

"That's not what the teacher meant. The teacher just hopes you can be an honest student."

That's interesting.

Sure enough, after he said that, the students looked at Shi Jing with a strange expression.

"Teacher Wang, aren't you still suspecting her of cheating by asking this question?" Suddenly, a familiar female voice came.

Shi Jing looked up and saw that it was Lin Lu.

The sun must have risen in the west; Lin Lu actually spoke up for her.

Lin Lu glared at her, then looked at Shi Jing's homeroom teacher: "What Shi Jing said makes sense. There are surveillance cameras in the classrooms now. If you suspect her of cheating, just check the surveillance footage."

The topic was brought back, and the other students all showed expressions of agreement upon hearing this.

They also suspected that Shi Jing might have actually plagiarized, but with surveillance footage and Director Li's reputation, they felt that Shi Jing was very confident.

Although the homeroom teacher wasn't afraid of his classmates, he hesitated when so many people were watching. He didn't expect Shi Jing to be so tough, and he was even more surprised that someone would speak up for Shi Jing, who was usually unpopular.

"This student, the monitoring teacher will investigate. Today we are just asking Shi Jing a few questions."

“Then I’ll trouble you, teacher, to help me prove it,” Shi Jing replied.

By this time, more and more students had gathered around. The homeroom teacher scolded them, "Hurry back and prepare for class," and then left in a hurry.

After watching the homeroom teacher leave, Shi Jing looked at Lin Lu and said, "Thanks." Regardless of how bad their relationship had been before, it was a fact that Lin Lu had spoken up for her today.

Lin Lu, however, didn't appreciate it and rolled her eyes: "I'm not doing this for you. I hate teachers like that the most. So what if your grades aren't good? Is it a crime to have bad grades?"

Without even looking in the mirror, she stormed off to her own class.

After being rebuffed, Shi Jing smiled helplessly and returned to her own class.

After this incident, although her classmates still didn't like to talk to her, fewer people secretly gossiped about her.

Shi Jing returned to the lonely desk in the corner and opened the math book he was reading.

After finishing her classes for the day, Shi Jing tidied her desk, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and walked out of the school. Only then did she have time to chat with the system in a relaxed manner.

"God of Wealth, when and how will I receive my task rewards?"

500,000 is not a small amount, and she is still a minor. How can this money be transferred to her?

"Hello host, you have been designated as the beneficiary of the fund. All task rewards can be directly deposited into your account or temporarily held by the fund."

Shi Jing considered that she was currently a minor, although she had a bank card in her name. However, this card was opened by her guardian and was mainly used to receive her father's monthly living expenses. The bank card was under Ms. Yan's supervision, and it wasn't safe to have large sums of money flowing through it. It would be better to put the money in a fund for safekeeping, since she was still relying on her parents for support.

"God of Wealth, keep this money for now, and transfer it out when I have my own bank card later."

"Yes, host."

As soon as the words were spoken, the system's task announcement officially sounded: "The host has ranked ninth in the class this time, and the current task has been completed. The reward has been officially issued and stored in the host's independent account."

Immediately afterwards, a new beeping sound rang out.

"Mission complete, new mission initiated. Current mission: The host is currently ranked 87th in the grade. Please continue your efforts to improve your grade ranking. Mission reward: 100,000 yuan for each rank you advance, increasing thereafter."

"One hundred thousand per person?" Shi Jing was stunned. Was the system really that generous?!

"Yes, host." The system's voice carried a hint of excitement. "As a wealth system, this is just a basic reward."

Shi Jing was truly envious now. So much money was just a small amount; she really hadn't seen enough.

Suddenly, she paused. She asked suspiciously, "Are you the God of Wealth System? Are you sure you want to keep supervising my studies?"

The system replied solemnly: "Host, you need not doubt that this system is a genuine God of Wealth system. The purpose of this system is to guide you to improve your life and provide you with enough money to use. Therefore, all tasks issued by the system are set according to your actual situation."

Shi Jing rubbed her chin, feeling that at this rate, she wouldn't be able to escape the fate of studying anytime soon.

As they walked back home, Shi Jing suddenly stopped when they were almost home.

A luxury car was parked downstairs at Shi Jing's house, and a tall, fair-skinned young man wearing black sunglasses was leaning casually against the car door.

In front of the young man, a beautiful woman in her thirties looked shy. They were talking about something, and the woman would occasionally lightly punch the man's chest. The man looked at her with affection, and they were clearly flirting.

For a moment, Shi Jing felt that it was not appropriate for her to step forward again, as it might ruin the ambiguous atmosphere between them.

But is Ms. Yan's new boyfriend really that young? Although he dresses a bit maturely, he looks like he's only in his early twenties.

Shi Jing hid in a corner and watched quietly until the two got into the luxury car and left. Only then did she come out from the corner and continue on her way home.
