Qi Yan kept this matter in mind, and called her brother first thing the next morning to ask about it. Qi Jing always doted on his younger sister, and although he wasn't angry at being woken up from his sweet dream, he patiently agreed.
Shi Jing had already gone downstairs to exercise in the morning and brought food back for the two of them.
Seeing that the first thing Qi Yan did after waking up was to call her brother, I couldn't help but find it a little funny.
"Okay, I've made the call. Hurry up and go wash up and have breakfast."
Qi Yan gave an OK sign.
Where is Qi Shuang?
"They're probably still asleep in the bedroom," Qi Yan said, before heading to the bathroom to wash up.
Shi Jing glanced at the time; it was just 6:30. Since it was a rare day off, she didn't disturb Qi Shuang. Leaning back on the sofa, she casually picked up a book and started reading.
After washing up, Qi Yan ate some breakfast, leaving some untouched for Qi Shuang. After eating, she went to the sofa and yawned.
"What are you looking at?"
"Just a few theoretical books, nothing special."
Qi Yan didn't understand any of this either, so she casually asked, "My brother said he's inviting us to dinner, shall we go together?"
While making the phone call, Qi Yan also tapped a bamboo stick on the phone.
"Is Brother Jing at Tianyuan?"
"Yes, they said the school arranged the internship, so I don't need to go to school anymore. I'm working every day now."
Qi Jing should be doing his internship now, as he's a senior in college. He has his own company, so he can do his internship there and doesn't need to go out to do it.
"You guys go this afternoon, my mom asked me to go see her."
"Okay." Hearing that it was Shi Jing's mother who had invited her, Qi Yan didn't insist.
Since moving out, Shi Jing had only met Ms. Yan once during the Chinese New Year. In the past six months, the two had only spoken on the phone a few times. Yesterday, Shi Jing had a day off and, thinking that she hadn't called Ms. Yan in a long time, decided to give her a call. Ms. Yan happened to be in Tianyuan City, so she arranged to meet her.
They had arranged to meet in the afternoon, but not knowing how long it would take, Shi Jing declined to have dinner with them.
The three of them had lunch together at noon. Shi Jing had something to do in the afternoon, so Qi Yan and Qi Shuang simply left together. They went out together in the evening.
Shi Jing and Ms. Yan arranged to meet at 4 p.m., at a rather private coffee shop.
When she arrived at the coffee shop, it was not yet time for her appointment. A beautiful waitress came up to her and asked if she had made a reservation. Shi Jing then told her Ms. Yan's name.
"This is Ms. Yan's guest. Please follow me. Ms. Yan has not arrived yet. Please wait a moment."
Shi Jing nodded and followed the others into a private room.
"Miss, would you like some cake and drinks first?"
"No need, let's wait until she arrives before we go together."
"Okay. Please have a seat for a while." With that, the waiter left.
This private café has quite a nice private room, with a beautiful and modern decor, and it's also very spacious. However, it's a bit of a waste for a mother and daughter to use such a large space to meet.
She glanced at the time: 3:58. Clearly, Ms. Yan was going to be late. Shi Jing waited until 4:10, but Ms. Yan still hadn't arrived. She called Ms. Yan, who said she was held up by something and was on her way, probably in about twenty minutes.
Shi Jing was also quite helpless. Since he was going to be late, he should at least call her to let her know.
Seeing that it was still early and she hadn't brought any documents with her, she suddenly remembered that she hadn't contacted Rong Yu for a while, so she simply called to ask about the situation.
Rong Yu must not be busy right now, because he answered the phone quickly. As soon as he answered, he asked with a smile, "How come you have time to call? Aren't you busy today?"
She was too busy recently, and Rong Yu would only be able to say a few words on the phone before hanging up, so it's no wonder Rong Yu was surprised.
"Today is a holiday."
Rong Yu smiled and said, "No wonder, you should rest well during the holidays. Have your previous results come out? Are there any more exams coming up?"
Shi Jing didn't hide anything and said directly, "I'm going to the capital in a week to participate in a summer camp and a physics competition, and then I'll participate in the math Olympiad. I won't be busy after those two competitions are over."
"Not bad." Rong Yu praised. He had also been through high school. Although he was too busy to participate in these competitions back then, he still knew the basic procedures.
"Are you busy this summer vacation? Do you plan to go back to Tianyuan?" Shi Jing asked.
When asked about this, Rong Yu replied, "I won't be going back this summer either. I'm currently doing experiments with a supervisor, and I'll be helping him out during the summer."
"Won't your company cause you trouble?" Shi Jing still remembered the time last summer when Rong Yu was dragged to events by his manager until he suffered heatstroke.
"Don't worry, this experiment is a project of the Dingdu Research Institute, and I was taken there by my supervisor as an exception. They won't cause trouble for themselves."
Shi Jing didn't quite understand what level this was, but being pre-booked by her advisor in her sophomore year sounded impressive.
"Then keep up the good work and try to officially join the research institute as soon as possible."
"Thank you for your kind words."
The two talked on the phone for more than ten minutes, and it was almost 4:30 before Shi Jing and Rong Yu hung up.
A few minutes later, Ms. Yan finally arrived.
"mom."
Upon seeing Ms. Yan, Shi Jing stood up to greet her.
"Xiao Jing." Ms. Yan put down her bag and took off her coat, hanging it aside. "Why didn't you order anything to eat or drink?"
"I'm not hungry, I'll wait for you."
Ms. Yan didn't say anything more after hearing this, and instead ordered two cups of coffee and some snacks from the waiter.
"You've been very busy lately, is your studies very demanding?" During a break between meals, Ms. Yan inquired about Shi Jing's studies.
"Fortunately, I participated in some competitions this semester, so it took up more time."
Ms. Yan nodded. She had heard Shi Jing mention that she was participating in a competition before, but she didn't know much about it and hadn't taken the time to find out.
After the coffee was served, she took a sip and changed the subject.
Have you contacted your dad recently?
Shi Jing was taken aback, wondering why Ms. Yan would ask about Shi Hai again, but she didn't hide it from her.
"I've been quite busy lately, and I only managed to talk to my dad on the phone once."
"You silly child, don't just focus on your studies. You need to spend more time with your dad, otherwise he'll forget about you after a while," Ms. Yan advised.
"Mom." Shi Jing rubbed her temples. "I'm not interested in my dad's things. He can give them to whomever he wants."
Hearing this, Ms. Yan put down her coffee cup and said seriously, "How could you be so foolish, child? What are those students studying so hard for? Isn't it to earn more money? Your father's money should have been yours to begin with, why should you give it to someone else!"
Shi Jing hadn't seen Ms. Yan for a long time. In the past, Ms. Yan had always been thinking that she should get more money from Shi Hai. Why did she seem to be even more demanding this time?
She looked at Ms. Yan, whose appearance was still exquisite and beautiful, and felt that something was off.
Suddenly, she noticed the bag hanging to the side of Ms. Yan. Shi Jing wasn't familiar with these high-end luxury brands, but the bag Ms. Yan was holding wasn't one of the luxury models Shi Jing had ever seen before; instead, it was from a relatively niche brand that wasn't too expensive.
An idea suddenly popped into her mind.
"Mom? Don't you have much money left?"
