When they rented the house in the village, they specifically chose two houses that were close to each other for convenience.
Shi Jing went back to tidy up, and soon Zhao Xunkan and the others next door noticed.
These two are incredibly diligent when it comes to things they're interested in; they've been spending the last few days heading into the mountains. Even today, despite the rain, they didn't rest; instead, they were discussing their previous measurement reports with others.
Since they moved out, the two of them have become increasingly comfortable, and Shi Jing hardly ever sees them except when they go into the mountains together.
"Shi Jing." Zhao Xunkan strolled into the courtyard and asked slowly, "Aren't you living in Jian Rong's place? What are you doing here?"
“My two roommates came to visit, and it would be too much of a disturbance for all of us to stay at their place, so we decided to move here.”
After renting the house, Zhao Xunkan and Jiang Qingyue made a special trip to the county town with Jian Li to get internet access on both sides and buy a lot of appliances and household goods.
The houses here can be moved into after a simple renovation.
Shi Jing briefly explained her situation before asking about work: "When will the design team arrive, and how many people are there?"
"Qingyue said they'll be here the day after tomorrow, three of them this time. We'll arrange for them to stay in our courtyard, there's plenty of space."
“Okay,” Shi Jing replied. After thinking about her plans, she added, “My classmates are coming over soon, and we’ll probably go out together. If you need anything, just give me a call.”
"Don't worry about it. You're so young, don't worry so much." Zhao Xunkan said, and was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something and turned back to ask, "After your classmates arrive, do you want to have dinner together?"
After they moved here, they found an aunt in the village to help them cook three meals a day, and now they don't have to worry about food anymore.
Shi Jing shook his head and said, "No need today. We'll see how things go tomorrow. If necessary, I'll let you know in advance."
"Okay, then you continue packing, I'll head back now."
Jian Li and her brother drove into the city and went to the high-speed rail station to pick someone up.
They had contacted each other beforehand, and the two of them stood at the exit of the high-speed rail station waiting for each other.
The high-speed rail station in the small county town wasn't crowded. Only a few unlicensed taxi drivers were standing at the exit, trying to solicit passengers. Nan Zhuowen and Tao Yue could see them as soon as they exited the station.
"Zhuo Wen, Sister Tao Yue, over here, over here."
Seeing the two from afar, Jian Rong happily waved to them.
The exit was a bit noisy, but Jian Rong's voice was loud enough that Nan Zhuowen noticed her immediately. She quickly waved to Jian Rong and then pulled Tao Yue along as they ran over.
As soon as the group met, Jian Li enthusiastically helped them pull their suitcases.
"Hey kids, the car's just outside, come get your suitcases."
"No, no, you're too kind," Nan Zhuowen quickly said. Tao Yue, though in a bad mood, also declined, feeling embarrassed.
"You're welcome."
“Yes, Zhuo Wen, Sister Tao Yue, give us the suitcase.” Jian Rong didn’t stand on ceremony with them and took the suitcase directly. “Let’s go, Shi Jing is still waiting for us in the village.”
Jian Li grew up here. Except for three years when she went away to study at university, she has been working and running a shop in her hometown ever since.
As a local expert, he was very familiar with this place. He talked about the beautiful scenery of his area as they walked, recommending that they go out and explore with Jian Rong for the next couple of days.
Thanks to Jian Rong's precautions, the Jian family also learned that a young girl had come to relax. They weren't talkative people, but they tried their best to subtly help divert her attention.
"Okay, thank you, cousin." Nan Zhuowen said with a smile, then looked at Jian Rong and asked, "Where have you and Shi Jing been these past few days?"
“She didn’t go out.” Jian Rong sighed. “She’s so busy. She finally finished her work today, and then it started raining.”
As she spoke, she perked up again: "Since you're here now, it's a perfect opportunity for us to go out and have some fun together!"
"Let me tell you, the strawberries here are delicious! When the weather gets better, I'll take you strawberry picking!"
"And there's fishing too. It just rained, and there's plenty of water in the mountain streams, so there must be lots of fish!"
"......"
Back in her hometown, Jian Rong became even more talkative. While the others remained mostly silent, Jian Rong chattered enthusiastically, introducing everything.
She only stopped talking when the car entered the village, still feeling like she hadn't said enough.
As soon as the car approached the village, some villagers noticed it.
"Hey, isn't that Chestnut's car? Is he picking up Xiao Bao?"
"I'm not mistaken, that must be Chestnut's car."
By this time, the rain had stopped. At the village entrance, a group of uncles and aunts, who had finished dinner and were out for a stroll and chat, looked out and talked.
As soon as the car entered the village, someone called out, "Chestnut, have you picked up the person?"
Jian Li rolled down the car window and greeted the aunties with a smile: "I've picked you up, aunties. Have you had dinner yet?"
"You've eaten, you should all go home now, your families are definitely waiting for you."
"Why."
Jian Li and Jian Rong said a few words to their aunts and then quickly drove back home.
It was already quite late; even though it was summer, the sky had already darkened.
The Jian family had already prepared dinner and were just waiting for the brother and sister to pick up their classmate.
"The car should be here by now, right?" Grandpa Jian asked.
"Are we almost there? Chestnut just mentioned a fork in the road," Jane's father replied.
The so-called fork in the road is actually the junction between the main road and Xiaogou Village. This section of the road is a cement road that was built together by the villagers. It is not as good as the main road, but it is enough for the daily use of the village.
"It'll be soon. Get ready, get the heat going."
"It's already being done, Dad, don't worry."
Shi Jing had already arrived at the Jian family's house, but the Jian family wouldn't let this guest help with anything, so she could only wander around the courtyard. She spotted the car as soon as it arrived.
"Uncle, they've arrived," Shi Jing said, walking outside.
The car stopped in front of the Jian family's house, and Jian Rong got out with a smile, greeting her family.
"Hurry up and take the luggage down, let's go back for dinner first." Mr. Jian called out, taking the things enthusiastically without the two of them needing to react at all.
Shi Jing had been staying here for several days and had gotten used to the Jian family's hospitality, so he simply led the two of them into the courtyard.
After a quick handwashing, let's go eat together.
Faced with the warm-hearted Jian family, Nan Zhuowen and Tao Yue's expressions were similar to Shi Jing's on the first day, both feeling somewhat unaccustomed.
Shi Jing would occasionally try to distract them, which made the two of them less reserved.
After finishing their meal, the group digested their food and then prepared to go to the accommodations that Shi Jing had arranged.
Jian Rong jumped up immediately: "Wait for me, I'll go get my clothes!"
On the first day her good friends came to her hometown, Jian Rong was determined to stay with them.
