During lunch, Sang Ruo only ate a few bites before putting down her chopsticks. Just as she was about to say something, she heard Long Jingchen put down his chopsticks.
She subconsciously looked up and saw that the man had already wiped his mouth and left.
Sang Ruo opened her mouth, but couldn't say a word.
She put down her chopsticks and continued waiting at the door.
Sang Jiang still hadn't returned by nightfall, and neither had Kou'er and Wanting. Not only Sang Ruo, but even Long Jingchen was starting to panic.
He beckoned with his finger towards the direction of the darkness.
An Ye quietly entered and knelt on one knee: "Your Majesty."
Long Jingchen nodded, and after a long while, he awkwardly said, "Go and see why Kou'er and Wanting haven't come back yet."
Dark Night bowed his head: "Your subordinate obeys!"
After saying that, he flew away.
Before long, she returned carrying Kou'er and Wanting, one in each hand.
Kou'er looked at Long Jingchen crying and couldn't utter a single word.
Finally, Wan Ting, bearing the pressure from Long Jingchen, spoke up: "Your Majesty, this servant and Kou'er have been searching along the riverbank for the Fourth Miss, going back and forth several times, but we haven't seen any trace of her, nor have we seen Yang..."
Seeing Long Jingchen's increasingly sour expression, the rest of her words caught in her throat.
Sang Ruo tightened her grip on her hands, opened her mouth, and then closed it again.
Long Jingchen nodded: "An Ye, go find Lord Yang's man and make sure you bring Sang Jiang back."
An Ye glanced at Kou'er, who was crying her eyes out, and nodded.
After An Ye left, Long Jingchen glanced irritably at the room full of women, some kneeling and some standing, and waved his hand dismissively: "You can all go back now."
"Your Majesty, I take my leave."
After the others left, Long Jingchen walked to the window, opened it, looked at the twinkling stars outside, and couldn't help but sigh.
Actually, he was still a little flustered. Sang Jiang was so lazy, she should have been back by now. Was she really just here to cheer him up?
In the following days, neither Sangjiang nor Yangliu appeared again.
Long Jingchen's face grew increasingly sour, while Sang Ruo and Kou'er looked more and more haggard.
...
When Sang Jiang woke up again, she had no idea where she was.
Her weakness and hunger made her realize that she had no idea how many days she had been unconscious.
She felt a headache coming on as she recalled what had happened in the past two days.
She remembered that after she fainted, she was thrown into a carriage, and someone kept giving her water, after which she would faint again.
"You're awake?"
A hoarse female voice interrupted Sang Jiang's thoughts.
Sang Jiang stiffly turned her neck to look in the direction of the sound.
She was a woman in her forties, dressed similarly to those in Dongchen Kingdom, except that Dongchen Kingdom women wore strapless dresses while this woman wore a diagonal-front dress.
"Who are you?" Sang Jiang opened her mouth but found that she couldn't utter a single word.
The woman glanced at her: "This is the Western Phoenix Kingdom."
Sang Jiang: ...
So where is she?
The woman could see her doubts, so she continued, "This is Mingzhu Fang. From now on, you'll be one of our girls. Just call me Aunt Liu. Now get up and come eat with me."
Mingzhufang? What's that? Why does Liu Mama sound so much like a madam?
Was she sold to a brothel?
She wanted to get up and eat.
Sang Jiang tried to get up several times but couldn't sit up. Liu's mother glanced at him impatiently and called out to someone outside, "Caiju, come in and help her up."
