Chapter 153 What Happened Back Then

Sang Hongfu's eyes glazed over for a moment before he spoke again firmly: "This old minister is unaware of Her Highness the Imperial Concubine's thoughts."

Sang Ruo smiled and said, "It doesn't matter if Father doesn't admit it. Anyway, the Emperor has already taken charge of investigating this matter. If nothing unexpected happens, Sang Jiang will be the princess of Xifeng Kingdom."

"What?" Sang Hongfu turned to look at Sang Ruo: "The princess of Xifeng Kingdom?"

Sang Ruo nodded: "If Father still wants to protect our Sang family, then tell me the truth."

Before Sang Hongfu could even speak, the First Madam burst through the door with a loud bang.

The two of them turned to look at her.

Sang Hongfu frowned as soon as he saw her: "What are you doing here!"

His tone was filled with displeasure.

The First Madam ignored her and walked directly to Sang Ruo: "You said Sang Jiang is a princess of Xifeng Kingdom?"

Sang Ruo couldn't help but frown when she saw her, and nodded without saying anything.

The First Madam glanced at Sang Hongfu again, and judging from his expression, she knew that Sang Hongfu knew about this.

The First Madam panicked at the thought of what she had done to Sang Jiang. She walked up to Sang Hongfu and her tone softened considerably: "Prime Minister, do you think Sang Jiang will come back?"

Sang Hongfu glanced at her: "Now you're scared? Where were you before? I told you long ago to be forgiving. You should think about what you've done to her. Even if Sang Jiang forgives you, do you think the Emperor of Xifeng will forgive you?"

Upon hearing his words, the First Madam's legs went weak and she knelt on the ground.

Sang Ruo ignored her and looked directly at Sang Hongfu: "Father, what exactly is going on?"

Sang Hongfu glanced at her and sighed deeply: "I thought this matter could be kept a secret forever, but I never expected it. It must be fate."

He paused for a few seconds before speaking again: "Actually, I don't really know what happened. Back then, I wasn't the prime minister yet. Ruan Yunyun found me and told me that if I was willing to take in He Sangjiang, she could help me become second only to the emperor. At first, I didn't believe her, but I took her in out of kindness. As a result, after spending time with her, I found that she did have some extraordinary qualities, so I married her."

Hearing this, the First Madam couldn't help but retort, "You're clearly just after her beauty. Back when Ruan Yunyun first came, your eyes were glued to her every day!"

"Shut up!" Sang Hongfu scolded her and continued, "But at that time, I already had you with your mother. Ruan Yunyun was afraid that you would affect Sang Jiang's status, so she asked me to send you to the countryside to live with your grandmother. But over the years, Ruan Yunyun and I have never consummated our marriage. Sang Jiang is not sixteen years old; she is actually eighteen."

Sang Ruo looked at Sang Hongfu in disbelief. If what he said was true, Sang Jiang was actually older than Sang Ruo and Sang Yan, but she really couldn't tell from Sang Jiang's small frame.

The First Madam slowly regained her voice: "So, everything you told me back then was true?"

Sang Hongfu glanced at her and nodded in response.

Sang Ruo nodded: "I understand. I will speak to the Emperor about this."

Sang Hongfu looked at her and sighed, "You've suffered all these years."

Why did Father suddenly say that?

Sang Hongfu looked at her, feeling somewhat embarrassed. He coughed twice before saying, "The Sang family is counting on you this time!"
