Chapter 23 A good ex should be like they're dead.

Xia Wan: "No."

Shen Li stared at the live stream and said, "So this is the first time An Xinrong has eaten Zhuang Yan's cooking?"

Whether she did it intentionally or unintentionally, throughout today's recording, Shen Li kept steering the conversation toward Zhuang Yan.

Everyone present knew about Xia Wan and Zhuang Yan's past relationship. By doing this, she was amplifying the relationship and conflicts between Xia Wan and Zhuang Yan in front of the public, which was one of the highlights of the show.

If you take the character relationship diagram out of the show and look at it separately, you'll know that this variety show is bound to be a hit.

No sooner had she broken off her engagement than Xia Wan brought her current boyfriend to watch her ex-boyfriend date.

The people Zhuang Yan was dating were none other than her aunt and her best friend.

Shen Li twirled the pen in her hand: "I saw that An Xinrong was very happy eating Zhuang Yan's cooking. Maybe the two of them will spark a romance."

Xia Wan said, "An Xinrong could never like Zhuang Yan."

"It was impossible before, but who knows what will happen in the future."

To keep the atmosphere lively, host Li Le changed the subject: "After a day of live streaming, which couple do you think will make the most of it?"

"It's only the first day, so we can't see any splash yet."

"It's An Xinrong and Fang Chen, Fang Chen's feelings for An Xinrong are quite obvious."

"Me too, but I can't say for others."

"Gu Qian, what do you think?"

Throughout the day, Gu Qian spoke very little and did not express any opinions. When the host suddenly threw a question at him, he was stunned for a moment and said, "I also think Fang Chen and An Xinrong are good."

"Where are the others?"

Gu Qian glanced at Xia Wan beside him and then said, "Zhuang Yan and Jiang Ning, they should know each other before. It seems that Jiang Ning cares about Zhuang Yan quite a bit."

After he finished speaking, he clearly sensed a change in Xia Wan's emotions.

“I also think there’s potential between them,” Shen Li agreed.

"The biggest highlight of this show right now is Zhuang Yan. His personality is not as bad as people say online. I quite like him."

As a regular guest on the show, Shen Li is eager for the show to create more buzz so that it can maintain its popularity.

...

After a long day, everyone dispersed after dinner.

Lu Yan returned to her bedroom and her first step was to turn off the camera and the microphone on her body.

She and Jiang Ning shared a room. The two stood facing each other, silently staring at each other, each seeing hostility in the other's eyes.

One look is enough to tell they are competitors.

Lu Yan asked directly, "When did you and Zhuang Yan meet?"

Jiang Ning said without any hesitation, "I met him when I was only seven years old. Our families lived close by, and we went to school together, ate together, and slept together. His grandmother was very kind to me. In fact, we almost got engaged as children."

So she wasn't exaggerating when she said "childhood sweethearts".

The two were like people sitting at a negotiating table, each probing the other's hand. Whoever revealed their hand first would lose.

To win, one might resort to fraud, demonstrations, or intimidation.

Jiang Ning was declaring her sovereignty and also demonstrating to Lu Yan: Zhuang Yan is my man. You didn't even know where you were when I met him.

"You said it yourself, it was almost." Lu Yan turned around and sat down in a chair, crossing her legs. Although she was sitting, her aura remained unchanged. When she looked up at Jiang Ning, she was as superior as ever.

It was just a feint; there's nothing to fear.

The word "almost" is really awful. Almost together, almost married, almost got him... it often delivers a heavy blow when someone is about to touch their hopes.

"Almost" also represents a regret that cannot be expressed.

"I dated Zhuang Yan."

Lu Yan is a formidable opponent, and Jiang Ning is determined to make her back down.

She liked Zhuang Yan and knew what the eyes looked like when someone liked someone; she saw it in Lu Yan's eyes.

Lu Yan wasn't surprised: "So what if you dated? You broke up anyway, didn't you? This only shows that you didn't love him enough back then. If you truly loved him, how could you bear to let go?"

Jiang Ning's face turned pale. She wanted to refute, but she didn't know how to say it.

She had intended to discourage Lu Yan, but she never expected that she would be the one to lose her composure first.

That wasn't all. Lu Yan continued, "Miss Jiang, have you ever heard the saying that a good ex should be like someone who's dead? You met Zhuang Yan before I did, but feelings aren't about who came first."

Jiang Ning clenched her fists, her nails digging deep into her flesh. She forced herself to remain calm: "He and I broke up, but that doesn't mean we can't get back together. He and I were each other's first love, and first love is the hardest to forget. As for you... I heard from An Xinrong that you are Xia Wan's aunt. Compared to her, you are the least qualified one."

Lu Yan's eyes were icy: "Whether you are qualified or not is not up to you to decide."

Whether we, the first lovers, can get back together is none of your business.

After staring at each other for a moment, they each let out a cold laugh. There was no winner or loser in this battle, but it had only just begun.

The mountain air was fresh, and the night was filled with the croaking of frogs. Zhuang Yan slept very well, without any dreams, feeling relaxed all night. He got up very early the next day.

The temperature was 23 degrees Celsius in the morning, and the air was a bit chilly. It felt especially refreshing to breathe in. After getting up early, Zhuang Yan faced east and first did a set of Baduanjin, Tai Chi, and Wuqinxi.

Those who haven't seen it before might just think he's acting on a TV show, but college students know how well he did it. He was well-paced and executed every movement perfectly, clearly showing that he practices regularly.

After three sets, Zhuang Yan was covered in a light sweat, but felt very comfortable from head to toe, as if his body had been stretched.

When he was young, Zhuang Yan didn't know how to take care of his health. It wasn't until he was diagnosed with a host of illnesses that he started to take care of his health. After he turned fifty, the thing he did most often was practice a set of Eight Pieces of Brocade. He didn't know if his health was good or not, but at least he had some peace of mind.

After finishing, Zhuang Yan found a few goji berries and threw them into the thermos.

[Did Zhuang Yan get up so early?]

[Getting up to practice martial arts? And soaking goji berries in a thermos?]

[Since yesterday, I've felt that Zhuang Yan's behavior is very inconsistent with his age: fishing, cooking, taking care of his health, going to bed at nine o'clock, and now he's even getting up early to practice martial arts.]

I probably went to bed at nine because I was too tired yesterday. Come to think of it, the last time I went to bed at nine was back in elementary school.

Before the others got up, Zhuang Yan went into the kitchen to make breakfast. He cooked a pot of porridge in the rice cooker, boiled the steamed buns he bought from town yesterday, and then made two cold dishes.

Seeing that he had nothing to do, the director simply called him aside to do a solo interview.

"Did you sleep well last night? Are you getting used to the environment?"

"I like it here. The air is fresh. I usually have trouble sleeping, but I slept really well last night."

"Then let's talk about which of the guests here do you have a crush on?"

"Feelings?" It doesn't seem right to choose either one. Zhuang Yan smiled awkwardly, "Not yet."

The director nodded: "The program stipulates that we will send a text message to the contestant we are interested in three days later. Think it over carefully and send it to them then."
