The value of trust

The value of trust

"Enemy attack! From behind!"

The leader of the "Ghost" squad let out a roar filled with shock and rage.

His reaction was incredibly fast. The instant his companion fell, he rolled on the spot, simultaneously turning his gun and firing wildly into the darkness behind him.

The other three team members reacted immediately, forming a defensive formation back to back, and vigilantly watching their surroundings.

They truly lived up to their reputation as elite veterans, maintaining an exceptionally high level of tactical proficiency even under such a sudden and unexpected turn of events.

However, they were facing an opponent far more formidable than they had imagined.

"puff!"

Another almost inaudible soft sound.

One of the team members, who was moving, suddenly lost his footing, screamed, and fell into a trap pit covered with leaves. At the bottom of the pit were sharpened bamboo stalks.

The second one!

"Third brother!" The captain's eyes widened in fury.

He finally realized that he had fallen into the other party's trap from the very beginning.

The other side never even considered breaking through from the front.

The two dummies and the shots fired by the two snipers were merely to distract them and create an excellent opportunity for the real "ghost" to launch a surprise attack.

And they were completely unaware.

"Where is he! Find him for me!" the captain roared at the two remaining team members.

In the darkness, all was silent.

The attacker vanished again after delivering the blow, as if blending into the night without leaving a trace.

This feeling instilled an unprecedented fear in the remaining three "ghost" team members.

They are hunters, accustomed to hunting others in the shadows.

But now, they have become prey in the eyes of others.

"Captain, what do we do? We're surrounded!" A young team member's voice trembled slightly.

"Shut up! There are only three of us, and only one of them! What are you afraid of!" the captain shouted, forcing himself to calm down.

He knew that at this moment, whoever panicked first would lose.

"Number Two, you hold the left flank! Number Four, you come with me, keep an eye on the right! He's definitely in those bushes! Cover him with fire!"

"yes!"

Two automatic rifles spat fire again, bullets sweeping like lawnmowers toward the suspicious bushes on the right.

However, just as they were launching a full-scale attack on the right flank.

Above them, to their complete surprise, a dark figure silently emerged from a thick tree trunk.

It's Lu Chen.

He was like a night owl, coldly looking down at the three "hunters" below who had gone mad.

What he was holding was not a gun, but a grenade with the safety pin removed.

His face was expressionless.

He let go.

The grenade, arcing in a perfect parabola, fell silently towards the center of the three "ghost" team members who were standing back to back.

"boom--!"

A loud bang, and flames shot into the sky.

The whole world seemed to fall silent at that moment.

Lu Chen slid down from the tree, holding his gun, and carefully walked to the explosion site.

On the ground were three "corpses" emitting blue smoke.

They probably died without ever understanding where the enemy had launched their attack from.

Without pausing, Lu Chen quickly cleaned up the battlefield, looting all the weapons, ammunition, and supplies left behind by the "Ghost" squad.

Then he went to the riverbank and made three short bird calls towards the opposite bank.

This is a sign of victory.

Soon, two figures emerged from the reeds on the opposite bank.

It was Chen Mo and Sun Yi.

When they saw Lu Chen on the other side of the river, they were so excited they almost jumped up.

"team leader!"

Without the slightest hesitation, they immediately jumped into the icy river and swam to the other side as fast as they could.

When they climbed ashore, soaking wet and panting, and saw Lu Chen and the several "corpses" emitting blue smoke behind him, the two were speechless with shock.

"This...you did all of this by yourself?" Sun Yi stammered, pointing at the "corpses."

He could hardly believe his eyes.

This was the legendary "Ghost" squad! The Blue Team composed of instructors! And yet... they were wiped out by Lu Chen alone?

Lu Chen didn't answer, but simply tossed them a backpack full of food and water.

"Let's eat something first to replenish our energy. We need to leave here immediately."

Chen Mo and Sun Yi didn't bother asking any more questions. They were indeed cold and hungry, so they grabbed the compressed biscuits and beef jerky from their backpacks and started wolfing them down.

This was the most delicious meal they had eaten in the past two days.

"Captain, where are we going now?" Chen Mo asked while eating.

“Back to the valley.” Lu Chen said, looking at the first light of dawn on the horizon. “Wang Lei and Zhang Mang are still waiting for us.”

With ample supplies, the three of them moved quickly.

As dawn broke, they finally returned to the familiar valley.

Inside the cave, Wang Lei paced anxiously back and forth. When he saw Lu Chen return safely with Chen Mo and Sun Yi, he rushed over to them.

"Brother Chen! You're finally back! I was so worried about you!"

"How is Zhang Mang?" Lu Chen was most concerned about the wounded.

"Still the same as before, he hasn't woken up yet. But his breathing seems a bit more stable," Wang Lei replied.

Lu Chen quickly went over and checked Zhang Mang's injuries.

He noticed that Zhang Mang's complexion was rosier than when he left. Although he was still unconscious, his vital signs had indeed stabilized.

This gave him a long sigh of relief.

"Alright, now we're all here." Lu-Chen stood up and looked at his four teammates.

Wang Lei, Chen Mo, Sun Yi, and Zhang Mang lying on the ground.

This team, which was riddled with contradictions and looked down upon from the very beginning, finally came together for the first time after overcoming numerous crises.

"Captain, what do we do next?" Chen Mo asked.

Now, they have a solid rear base, ample supplies, and sophisticated weaponry. In terms of equipment, they are several times better equipped than when the assessment began.

"How many points do we have now?" Lu Chen asked.

"One point number 2, 20 points. If nothing unexpected happens, we should be at the bottom right now," Chen Mo calmly analyzed.

Because they spent all their time on survival and breaking through, they had no time to look for other targets.

Meanwhile, the other teams are undoubtedly fighting fiercely for points.

The three groups that came in last place all sent their members back to their hometowns.

This rule, like a boulder, weighs heavily on everyone's mind.

"We can't wait any longer," Sun Yi said anxiously. "There's only one day left in the assessment. We have to go out and grab as many points as possible! Otherwise, all our previous efforts will have been in vain!"

"Go out?" Wang Lei snorted. "How can we go out? There are probably people everywhere outside right now. If we show our faces, other teams will spot us."

"That's better than waiting to die here!"

"Alright, stop arguing," Lu Chen interrupted them.

His gaze fell on the more advanced military radio that had been captured from the "Ghost" squad.

"Who said we have to go outside to score?" He smiled.

"How can you score points if you don't go out?" Wang Lei asked, puzzled.

“Have you forgotten? We are ‘ghosts’ now.” Lu Chen’s smile carried a hint of cunning.

He turned on the radio and adjusted the frequency.

Soon, a familiar yet authoritative voice came from the radio.

"...Attention all units, attention all units. This is Lu Zhanting from the General Headquarters. I am now reporting the latest battle situation..."

It's Lu Zhanting's voice!

This radio station can actually connect directly to the headquarters of the assessment!

Everyone was stunned.

Lu Chen made a shushing gesture, indicating that everyone should listen carefully.

"...Currently, target point 7 has been captured by three groups... Near target point 5, groups four and six are engaged in firefight... Ghost Squad, please be on alert! Ghost Squad, please be on alert! Immediately proceed to coordinates XXX.XXX to clear out that area. Repeat, proceed immediately..."

Lu Zhanting was issuing a new mission to the "Ghost" squad that they had wiped out.

And this mission, by chance, was intercepted by them.

A plan even bolder and more insane than before instantly took shape in Lu Chen's mind.

He looked up at his teammates and said, word by word:

"Gentlemen, wanna try something big?"
