Chapter 158 Both Summoned

In the afternoon, Nanwusi taught the same basic makeup techniques, and then went through all the steps of the makeup process.

The concubines listened attentively, just like real students, and nothing pretentious happened, which relieved Nan Wusi.

Until the end of get out of class, Nan Wusi remained on edge, fearing something might go wrong.

When get out of class ended, Nan Wusi told the concubines that they could practice for the next two days, because makeup ultimately depends on practice.

The concubines readily agreed, promising to practice diligently upon returning home.

So after class, once the Empress had left, the other concubines also left in turn.

Ouyang Jiangli was the last to leave. She was heavily pregnant when she walked up to Nan Wusi and said, "Miss Nan, it seems you have a problem with me."

"You know what you've done, but I'm not targeting you today. If you really care about the child in your belly, you should listen to my advice." Nan Wusi looked at Ouyang Jiangli coldly, giving her no kind look.

Although Nan Wusi's Lan Yi Fang and Nan's Gold and Silver Shop have now been revived, and Ouyang Jiangli's previous shops have also closed, the closures of those few months still had some impact on Nan Wusi's business.

Nan Wusi despised those who resorted to underhanded tactics, and had long since lost any goodwill towards Ouyang Jiangli. His only reason for speaking up today was out of consideration for Ouyang Jiangli's pregnancy.

However, if Ouyang Jiangli insists on believing that this is her taking the opportunity to suppress her, then Nan Wusi doesn't want to say anything more.

After Ouyang Jiangli left in a huff, Nan Wusi could finally lie down on the bed. Earning money was really hard; her throat was sore from talking all day.

Over the next two days, Nanwusi used the same teaching method to teach different batches of concubines. However, since there were no high-ranking concubines in the last two days, the atmosphere among these concubines was much more lively.

Three lessons were given in this manner, and Nan Wusi stayed in the palace for nearly ten days. Finally, the Empress summoned Nan Wusi for questioning again.

"Miss Nan, do you still remember what I told you back then?" The Empress sat on the soft couch, looking down at Nan Wusi.

"Your Majesty, I certainly remember," Nan Wusi replied.

"If you remember, why were the three batches of concubines taught the exact same content?" The Empress's tone suddenly became stern.

"Your Majesty, if I were to differ too much in the content, it would inevitably be noticed by those with ulterior motives. The most important thing in learning makeup has never been theoretical knowledge, but practice," Nan Wusi replied calmly.

"These past few days have only covered the basics. The later courses will focus more on teaching various makeup techniques and skills. I will provide one-on-one guidance to all of you ladies then, and that's when the differences will become apparent."

"Very well, I hope Miss Nan will keep her word." The Empress nodded, acknowledging Nan Wusi's statement.

After leaving the Empress's palace, Nan Wusi had just returned to his own room when a palace maid came to report that the Imperial Concubine had summoned him.

Nan Wusi sighed inwardly and reluctantly went to the Imperial Concubine's palace again.

"Greetings, Your Highness the Imperial Concubine." Nan Wusi bowed to the Imperial Concubine.

"Miss Nan, please excuse the formalities. I have a favor to ask of you today." The Imperial Concubine smiled as she looked at Nan Wusi.

"Your Highness, please speak." Nan Wusi could roughly guess what the Imperial Concubine wanted her to do.

"I would like to ask Miss Nan to teach me some more privately when she has time. This is just a small token of my appreciation, please do not refuse." The Imperial Concubine said, and then had a maid present her with several pieces of jewelry.

Nan Wusi glanced at them, but her heart remained unmoved; she had no intention of accepting these things.

"This is somewhat against the rules, so please, Your Highness, do not make things difficult for me." Nan Wusi bowed to the Imperial Concubine.

"What's wrong with this? It's just a small matter." The Imperial Concubine looked at Nan Wusi, her smile deepening, which was actually a sign of her displeasure.

Nan Wusi did not answer or move. She did not believe that the Consort would be unaware that the Empress was secretly making things difficult for her.

Seeing Nan Wusi's behavior, the Imperial Concubine's smile finally faltered, and her tone turned cold as she said, "Since Miss Nan is unwilling, please leave."

"Yes, this subject takes her leave." Nan Wusi bowed to the Imperial Concubine once more and then quickly left.

Back in her room, Nan Wusi lay on the bed and sighed. She longed to go home.

"Sisi, why are you sighing?" Nan Wusi suddenly heard Xiao Yi's voice, and it wasn't coming from her mind.

"Xiao Yi?" Nan Wusi sat up abruptly, looking around.

Then they saw Xiao Yi, dressed in black, emerge from the shadows.

"Xiao Yi, are you crazy? This is the palace!" Nan Wusi was both shocked and frightened when he saw Xiao Yi; he was incredibly bold.

"It's alright, they won't notice." Xiao Yi was quite confident in his skills.

"You're really going too far," Nan Wusi said in a low voice without realizing it.

"Sisi, I've missed you. It's been ten days since I last saw you." Xiao Yi sat down next to Nan Wusi and hugged her.

"I want to go home too. This palace is no place for a human being," Nan Wusi complained.

"This palace is a place that so many people yearn for, and you don't even want to stay?" Xiao Yi said with a soft laugh.

"That's because they're ignorant. What's so good about being kept in this palace their whole lives? They'd be better off living freely." Nan Wusi always believed that imperial power had produced too many tragedies and was not worth aspiring to.

"Do you need me to help you think of a solution?" Xiao Yi asked.

"No need." Nan Wusi shook his head. "I've been paid, so I should have some professional ethics."

"What a little money-grubber." Xiao Yi chuckled, surprised that Nan Wusi wouldn't leave for such a reason.

“This isn’t being greedy, this is being trustworthy, okay?” Nan Wusi pouted, expressing her dissatisfaction.

"Yes, you're the most trustworthy." Xiao Yi gently pinched Nan Wusi's nose. "Go to sleep, you must be very tired these past few days."

"When are you leaving?" Nan Wusi asked, holding onto Xiao Yi's sleeve, somewhat reluctant to part with him.

"I'll leave after you fall asleep, okay?" Xiao Yi said gently.

"Okay." Nan Wusi nodded obediently, moved a little further inside, and said, "Xiao Yi, you should lie down for a while too."

Xiao Yi's ears turned slightly red when he heard Nan Wusi's invitation. He stared at Nan Wusi without moving.

Nan Wusi's cheeks also flushed, as if he had been somewhat abrupt.

However, Xiao Yi still lay down, turned to his side, and propped himself up with his hands facing Nan Wusi.

Looking at Xiao Yi's delicate face, Nan Wusi felt a little shy. However, being able to fall asleep with such a face in her eyes was truly a wonderful thing.

Soon Nan Wusi fell asleep, and Xiao Yi quietly left the palace.
