Chapter Fourteen: Aggressive

After listening to Ye Zi's account, Nan Wusi finally remembered this part of the story.

In the original text, the day before Nan Tianba returned to the capital, the original owner of this body encountered the son of the Minister of Rites and his cronies at the Chunfeng Tower. As a typical纨绔子弟 (spoiled brat) in the capital, Liu Shizhong naturally subjected the ugly original owner to various sarcastic remarks.

The original owner of this body had a fiery temper and would resort to violence at the slightest provocation. Normally, these were just minor skirmishes, but this time Liu Shizhong deliberately targeted the original owner's sore spots, resulting in a severe beating. It seems the original owner lost control this time; Liu Shizhong appeared to have a broken leg, but fortunately, he received timely medical attention and wasn't truly crippled.

The reason the original text omits the scene of the Minister of Rites visiting him today is likely because the Ministry of Rites was part of the Crown Prince's faction. Furthermore, in the original text, Nan Tianba's victorious return to the capital was immediately followed by the Emperor bestowing a marriage between the Crown Prince and Nan Wusi. Therefore, Minister of Rites Liu Anji refrained from making a move to demonstrate his loyalty.

This is truly... an undeserved disaster. Nan Wusi couldn't help but complain; the original owner's outrageous deeds had ultimately forced her to bear the consequences. However, there was nothing she could do about it; after all, it was because she refused the arranged marriage that Liu Anji lost his restraint, leading to this current predicament.

While Nan Wusi was still pondering the reasons, the Minister of Rites and his wife had already entered the hall.

"Minister Liu, what brings you to my door today?" Nan Tianba said, bowing respectfully.

"General Nan, I shouldn't be bothering you so late today, but it's really..." Liu Anji spoke politely, but looked troubled.

However, the Minister's wife, standing to the side, retorted aggressively, "General Nan, let's speak frankly. Your daughter broke my precious son's leg. Your General's Mansion must give an explanation for this!"

Nan Tianba frowned; he hadn't expected this situation.

"Wu Si, tell me what happened back then."

Before Nan Wusi could speak, the Minister's wife angrily shouted, "What else could it be? My son only said a few offensive words, and Miss Nan was so ruthless as to break his leg right there in the street! Many people saw it and can testify to it!"

Nan Wusi was also angered by the tone of the Minister's wife. "Minister's wife, your son spoke rudely and insulted me. He's also less skilled than me; he deserves to be beaten."

"Insolence!" Nan Tianba reprimanded Nan Wusi upon hearing his words.

"Listen to this! Is this how a lady of a respectable family should speak? General Nan, is this how your daughters are raised?"

Nan Tianba also disliked the Minister's wife's tone, his brows furrowing as he listened. However, Nan Wusi was in the wrong from the start, and now he didn't know how to refute her.

Then the Minister's wife said, "General Nan, if your general's mansion cannot give us a satisfactory answer today, even if it means losing face, we will go to the Emperor to seek justice."

Faced with the aggressive wife of the Minister, Nan Wusi suddenly knelt before Nan Tianba, tears streaming down her face. "Father," she cried, "I admit I hit someone. It was wrong of me. I will accept whatever punishment you deem appropriate. But Liu Shizhong has gone too far. If he had only insulted me, that would have been one thing, but he actually said Mother was blind to have chosen you, which is why she gave birth to such an ugly monster like me. How could I tolerate such slander against my parents? I was so angry that I lost my temper!"

"Boom!" Upon hearing Nan Wusi's words, Nan Tianba slammed his palm on the table beside him in anger, shattering the already teetering table into pieces. Nan Wusi's words had touched a nerve with Nan Tianba. He had always believed that, in terms of appearance, he was indeed not a good match for Jiang Zhirou, but no one had ever dared to gossip about it in front of him.

Minister Liu and his wife were startled, cold sweat pouring down their backs, fearing that Nan Tianba might lose his temper and strike them.

"If anyone insults my General's Mansion, so what if I cripple them? Go ahead and complain to the Emperor if you want. I wouldn't be Nan Tianba if I were afraid." After saying this, Nan Tianba turned and ordered Steward Lü, "Show the guests out!"

The Minister Liu and his wife were also frightened by this scene and had no choice but to slink away.

Jiang Zhirou, who had been silent all along, helped Nan Wusi up with a pained expression. She never expected that her daughter would be so humiliated because of her appearance.

Even though she was heartbroken, she dared not show it to Nan Wusi; it was all her fault.

"Mother, don't be sad. I've always thought what these people said was nonsense." Nan Wusi noticed Jiang Zhirou's distress.

"Pfft." Jiang Zhirou chuckled. "How can a girl speak so crudely?"

"Oh dear, Mother," Nan Wusi said reproachfully.

"Wu Si, is everything you just said true?" Nan Tianba interjected at this moment.

"Of course it's true. Father. How could I lie about something so important?" Nan Wusi looked earnestly at his adoptive father.

"Sigh," Nan Tianba could only sigh inwardly.

"Father, what if they really complain to the Emperor?" Nan Wusi was still somewhat worried.

"They dare? Do they really think I, Nan Tianba, am a pushover?" Nan Tianba said domineeringly.

"Yay, Daddy's so handsome!" Nan Wusi clapped his hands and showered him with compliments.

"Alright, you can all go back to your rooms." After what happened, Nan Tianba felt guilty and couldn't bring himself to punish them further.

As the three walked back to their room, Nan Wuyu pulled Nan Wusi aside and asked, "Third Sister, what do you plan to do about Prince Yi's contract?"
