Chapter Nine: Earned Money

"That's wonderful!" Prince Yi's gentle voice broke the silence.

As Prince Yi took the lead in clapping, the entire hall seemed to come alive, with everyone joining in the applause, and a chorus of praises filling the air.

Nan Wusi secretly observed Xiao Mu and Ouyang Jiangli's expressions. She noticed that Xiao Mu was staring at her in shock, his eyes filled with complex emotions. Ouyang Jiangli, on the other hand, was barely able to maintain her smile, her expression turning slightly ferocious. Fortunately, she quickly lowered her head to conceal her expression. But Nan Wusi noticed that her hands were tightly clenched together, and the embroidered handkerchief in her hands was already deformed.

Xiao Teng, sitting on the throne, let out a heavy sigh: "As expected, like father, like daughter! Reward her!"

Xiao Teng then bestowed a large number of rewards, including gold and jewels, which made everyone very envious.

"Minister Nan, have the rewards been distributed to the soldiers who went to the battlefield? Have the families of the fallen soldiers been properly taken care of?" Xiao Teng suddenly asked, presumably because the music had stirred up some thoughts in him.

"Your Majesty, everything has been taken care of," Nan Tianba replied.

"Very well." Xiao Teng waved his hand and said, "I'm tired, everyone may leave."

"Respectfully seeing off Your Majesty." The crowd bowed.

Since the Emperor had declared the banquet over, the evening's banquet was naturally concluded. The ministers then bid each other farewell and departed.

Just before leaving, Nan Wusi received another cold look from the female lead, which gave her a headache. "You're supposed to be the female lead, can't you be less stingy?"

On the carriage ride back, Nan Wusi noticed that her mother was staring at her with a serious expression, which made her scalp tingle and she thought she had given herself away.

To her surprise, her mother's words left her speechless. "Wusi, tell your mother honestly, do you like Prince Yi?"

"No, I didn't, don't talk nonsense." Nan Wusi denied it three times in a row.

"You're still staring at him! Let me tell you, don't be fooled by Prince Yi's good looks. He's a notorious playboy who spends his days in brothels. He's not a good marriage prospect," Jiang Zhirou earnestly advised.

"Oh, Mother, I just admire Prince Yi's face." Nan Wusi said coquettishly, shaking Jiang Zhirou's hand.

“You can’t just admire his face. If you look at someone for a long time, you’ll start to like them. That’s my experience,” Jiang Zhirou continued.

"Okay, okay, I swear, my daughter promises she won't stare at Prince Yi's face anymore." Nan Wusi raised four fingers to make her promise.

"That's more like it," Jiang Zhirou said, satisfied. She had been worried that Nan Wusi wouldn't listen to her advice, after all, her daughter was notoriously stubborn, just like her father. But these past two days, she had felt Nan Wusi's affection, which made Jiang Zhirou very happy. Although she didn't know why her daughter had changed so much, Jiang Zhirou didn't want to delve into it. Nan Wusi's distant attitude towards her in the past had hurt her deeply. She knew that her daughter hated her as her mother for not giving her a beautiful appearance.

Back home, after alighting from the carriage, Nan Tianba looked at Nan Wusi, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping himself. Finally, he patted his daughter's shoulder heavily and sighed, leaving Nan Wusi completely bewildered. She had no idea what her adoptive father was sighing about.

After everyone returned to their rooms.

Nan Tianba held Jiang Zhirou and sighed, "Rou'er, if only Sisi were a boy. Sisi's performance today was truly amazing. What a pity! Alas!"

Jiang Zhirou leaned on Nan Tianba's shoulder and retorted, "What's so good about being a man? Do you want our Sisi to fight on the battlefield like you? I just hope she can find a good husband and live a peaceful life."

"Now that the emperor's bestowed marriage has been rejected, although he dares not touch me for the time being, he is still the emperor and I am the subject. My situation in the future will probably be even more difficult." Nan Tianba was very dissatisfied with the emperor.

Jiang Zhirou wrinkled her cute nose and said, "I hope nothing goes wrong. We should put in more effort in the capital recently and get Wusi's marriage settled as soon as possible. Otherwise, the Emperor and the Crown Prince will keep trying to take advantage of Sisi."

"This matter will require a lot of your help, Madam." Nan Tianba kissed Jiang Zhirou's forehead.

"Mmm," Jiang Zhirou said, blushing.

Meanwhile, Nan Wusi was completely unaware that her parents were plotting to sell her as soon as possible, and was currently discussing the spoils of their recent business with Xiao Ba.

"Xiao Ba, how did I do this time? How many beauty points did I gain?" Nan Wusi felt that he had performed quite well today.

"Your beauty score is 583 for completing this mission. You did a good job, host. Keep up the good work." Even though it was meant as praise, Xiao Ba's mechanical voice sounded completely different.

However, Nan Wusi was quite happy at the moment and didn't mind. Even if he had attracted the hatred of the male and female protagonists today, he had still gained something.

"Host, you should think carefully about how to complete the main quest," Xiao Ba reminded him.

"Ugh, I haven't even been happy for two minutes yet," Nan Wusi pouted, expressing her dissatisfaction.

"With such a low beauty score, host shouldn't be too proud."

"Xiao Ba, are you mocking me?" Nan Wusi asked in surprise.

"No. I'm just stating the facts," Xiao Ba replied. "You asked before how many beauty points are needed to buy crafting rights, and now I'll tell you. Bra crafting rights require 500, and ready-made clothing crafting rights require 1000."

"What!" Nan Wusi's voice rose several decibels: "So expensive! That's too expensive! When will we ever earn it back?"

"..." Xiao Ba felt that its host was too stupid and indicated that it did not want to speak.

Nan Wusi knew that buying the crafting rights would be more cost-effective, but the thought that all the beauty points she had painstakingly earned that night were only enough to buy the crafting rights for one bra made her heart bleed. It was just too difficult!
