Chapter Ten: News Reaches South Wushi

The next day, Nan Wusi, unusually early, had breakfast with his grandmother and then went straight to his uncle's house to find the chubby boy.

"Hello, Aunt!" Nan Wusi greeted her with a smile.

"Sisi, sweetie, want to come play with Shi'er?" He Wenxiu patted Nan Wusi's head and asked.

"Hmm, is he up yet?" Nan Wusi nodded; she knew the little chubby boy always loved to sleep in.

"Not yet, I've already sent someone to call him." He Wenxiu smiled and took Nan Wusi's hand. "You stay here and chat with your aunt for a while, until that rascal gets up."

“Okay.” Nan Wusi also wanted to chat with her aunt for a while and catch up on the gossip in the capital. Her aunt had no other hobbies but loved to inquire about all sorts of gossip in the capital, such as which young lady was going to marry which young master, which family had been involved in a scandal, and if she wanted to know any inside information, asking her aunt was always the right thing to do.

It seems that Nan Wushi's love of socializing and his well-informed nature were influenced by his mother. It just so happens that Nan Wusi came to see him today to inquire about news.

"Sister! You've finally come to see me!" Nan Wushi burst into the front hall like a cannonball.

"You brat, you're finally up! It's all thanks to your sister Si's charm that you got up so quickly!" He Wenxiu scolded Nan Wushi, pinching his ear.

"Ouch, Mother, be gentle!" Nan Wushi pleaded. Nan Wusi grinned as he watched the two interact.

"Alright, you kids go play," He Wenxiu waved her hand.

"Okay!" Nan Wushi felt like he'd been granted a pardon, and pulled Nan Wusi towards the backyard, still chattering, "Sis, what have you been up to lately? You haven't come to play with me at all! You were so handsome last night, everyone around me was stunned!"

"That's right, your sister is pretty amazing," Nan Wusi said smugly.

The two found a gazebo by the pond in the backyard. The table was laden with fruit, so they sat down to eat and chat.

"I wanted to ask you something today," Nan Wusi said, getting straight to the point. "I want to open a shop."

"A shop? Why did you suddenly decide to open a shop? What kind of shop do you want to open?" The chubby boy was shocked; he couldn't imagine Nan Wusi opening a shop at all.

“Recently, I’ve realized that playing around like this all the time is getting boring, and I need to find something to do, so I thought I’d try opening a shop.” Nan Wusi smiled gently, “Little Fatty, are you interested?”

"Sis! Why are you calling me 'Little Fatty' again? Humph!" Little Fatty feigned annoyance, then said seriously, "Sis, running a shop isn't as fun as you think."

Nan Wusi knew the chubby boy thought she was just looking for something new, not that she really wanted to run a successful shop. However, she was confident. She then explained her plans and strategies to the chubby boy, leaving him completely bewildered.

"Sis, how come I never knew you had a talent for business?" The chubby boy looked at Nan Wusi with admiration.

"There are many things you don't know," Nan Wusi said proudly, raising his chin slightly.

After listening to Nan Wusi's plan, Nan Wushi's eyes lit up. After some thought, he concluded it was feasible. The current problems were the shop's location, decoration, and the source of goods.

"Sis, are you planning to open a ready-to-wear clothing store first?"

“Yes.” Nan Wusi nodded. She couldn’t not open a clothing store, since it was her main quest.

"Do you have a suitable location? What kind of customer base do you target?" the chubby boy continued.

"The target audience for the shop is very clear: the wealthy ladies and noblewomen of the capital. It will open once every two weeks, once for wealthy ladies and once for noblewomen. It will be closed at other times. Clothing will be sold through auctions." Nan Wusi took a bite of grapes and continued, "I haven't decided on the location yet; I was just planning to ask for your opinion."

"The shop only opens once every two weeks. How beautiful must the clothes be to keep these wealthy ladies here? And selling clothes for wealthy ladies and young women separately... that might be a bit tricky. Sister, do you have any nice sample garments?" Nan Wushi frowned.

"Didn't you see it last night?"

"Did you make that dress you wore last night yourself?" Nan Wushi's eyes lit up. "If you can maintain this level of quality, it should be fine. However, I still suggest not selling the two dresses separately; the time gap is too long."

"Let me think about it some more. You don't need to worry about the selection and sourcing of the clothes; leave that to me. Where do you think would be a good location for this shop?"

“Of course, it would be best to open in the central location, but the best locations are now controlled by the major families. If you want to open a new one, it will be difficult.” Nan Wushi suddenly slammed his hand on the table: “By the way, why don’t you just ask your uncle for a shop? It would cost a lot of money to rent a new shop. I remember you don’t have any stock.”

"..." Nan Wusi realized that her cousin truly lived up to his reputation as the original owner's good friend, understanding her perfectly. However, upon further reflection, she realized that this matter indeed required her parents' support; her own share alone was simply insufficient. But gaining her parents' support would be extremely difficult, and she wondered if they could accept her, a young woman, appearing in public, especially since she represented the General's Mansion, even though the original owner had already severely damaged that facade.

"What's the situation with the best clothing stores in the capital?" Nan Wusi asked again. "The most famous clothing stores in the capital right now are Ni Chang Ge, opened by Prince Yi; Yi Ren Fang, opened by the Third Prince; and Jin Xiu Ge, opened by a wealthy merchant. They mainly cater to noblewomen and ladies of high society." At this point, the chubby boy suddenly lowered his voice and said mysteriously, "It is said that Prince Yi also secretly supplies goods to various brothels."
