Chapter Twenty: A Group of Children

When Nan Wusi returned to the lobby, she found more than a dozen children standing inside, some of whom had followed behind them earlier, and a few unfamiliar faces.

The children's eyes were almost entirely focused on the food on the table, but none of them made any move. They just stood there obediently, which surprised Nan Wusi.

"Tiger, take the food inside and share it with your friends," Nan Wusi said to Tiger.

"Okay, Sister Nan." Tiger happily accepted the task.

After the food was distributed, the children began to wolf it down. Some ate so fast that they choked, but managed to swallow it down.

Some children ate some and then kept the rest, carefully tucking it into their pockets.

This scene broke Nan Wusi's heart; she didn't know how long these children hadn't had a full meal.

Tiger swallowed hard but didn't eat; he just held the food tightly in his arms.

"Tiger, why aren't you eating?" Nan Wusi asked, puzzled.

"I want to wait for Mom to wake up so we can eat together," Tiger replied crisply.

"What a good boy." Nan Wusi rubbed Hu Zi's little head.

Seeing that all the children had almost finished eating, Tiger spoke up again: "You should all thank Sister Nan."

"Thank you, Sister Nan!" the children exclaimed in unison.

"You're welcome," Nan Wusi said gently, somewhat touched.

"Yezi, let's distribute the clothes to everyone too."

So Yezi, with tears in her eyes, distributed clothes to the children. The children were very excited to see their new clothes and touched them lovingly, even though they could only look at them before.

After playing with the children for a while, Nan Wusi decided to leave.

So she left the slum amidst the reluctant gazes of many children.

"Miss," Ye Zi's eyes were still red, and she twisted two fingers tightly together, "Could we come more often in the future?"

"Yes, I'll come often in the future," Nan Wusi affirmed. It seemed Ye Zi also came from a poor family; she must have been moved by something today.

"Thank you, Miss." Ye Zi's face broke into a big smile, brighter than the delicate flowers in spring.
