Chapter Twenty-Six: Blind Date

The next day, Jiang Zhirou called the two brothers over and earnestly instructed them to bring their suitable friends home to play, and to see if there were any suitable candidates for their sister.

Nan Wufeng readily agreed, but unfortunately, he was away from the capital for a long time, and his only friend was Xia Ziqian.

But Nan Wuyu was a hundred times unwilling; in his eyes, no man in the capital was worthy of his sister.

Seeing Nan Wuyu's attitude, Jiang Zhirou was so angry that she wanted to hit him.

"What, you'd be satisfied if your sister never gets married in this lifetime?" Jiang Zhirou asked fiercely.

“If she can’t get married, I’ll support my sister for the rest of my life. How many of these noble men in the capital are any good? Even if they seem decent on the surface, they all reek of corruption.” Nan Wuyu knew that most of these young men in the capital were greedy, lustful, and ignorant. He didn’t want to push his sister into a pit of fire.

"Aren't you afraid that your sister will never get married and people will gossip about her behind her back? Don't underestimate the power of gossip," Jiang Zhirou said seriously.

"There aren't many good candidates among noblemen, but those from humble backgrounds are also acceptable. In fact, they're easier for us to handle. You should keep a close eye on them as well."

“Yes, Mother,” the two brothers replied.

Although Nan Wuyu was unwilling, he still wanted his sister to find her ideal husband, so he could only put in more effort to choose one.

After sending the two brothers away, Jiang Zhirou began to sort through the invitations sent by various noble ladies. She had never been interested in these before, but now, for Wusi's marriage, she still needed to make more contact with the ladies of the capital.

So recently, bored out of his mind, Nan Wusi found that his family members were rarely seen, and he didn't know what they were busy with all day.

With nothing to do all day, she often went to the slums. Ever since the Crown Prince promised to take care of the slums, he had set up relief points near them and sent people to patrol for a while, scaring the local thugs out of their wits. In no time, the Crown Prince's prestige among the people soared.

"As expected of the male lead, he manages to get away with this." Nan Wusi curled his lip.

Tiger and the other kids also thought that His Highness the Crown Prince was a good person, making their lives less difficult. Although Nan Wusi was disdainful, Xiao Mu had indeed done something decent this time, so she didn't plan to say anything to Tiger and the others.

During this time, she had become very close with Hu Zi and his friends. Because Nan Wusi always brought lots of delicious food, fun toys, and brand-new clothes whenever she visited, all the children loved this older sister very much.

During this time, Nan Wusi encountered Ouyang Xinxi again, but she still looked timid, only showing a knowing smile when she was with the children.

"Xinxi, you're so pretty, you should dress up more often. Your clothes are too plain," Nan Wusi said earnestly to Ouyang Xinxi.

"I'm still observing the mourning period for my mother," Ouyang Xinxi said softly.

"Ah, I'm sorry." Nan Wusi looked apologetic; how could she have forgotten about that?

"It's alright." After saying that, the two fell silent.

They didn't stay long that day and soon parted ways. Perhaps because they had touched on something painful, the atmosphere remained rather somber. As a homebody, Nan Wusi was also troubled about what to say in this situation.

However, she ultimately said nothing, because she felt that anything she said at this moment would be wrong. She couldn't yet comprehend the pain of losing a loved one, let alone Ouyang Xinxi's difficult situation.

She really wanted to warn Ouyang Xinxi to be careful of her half-sister, the female lead Ouyang Jiangli, but since the two weren't close yet, she couldn't bring herself to say it, which made her very worried.

When she returned to the mansion with a gloomy face, she found Jiang Zhirou waiting for her with a happy expression.

Jiang Zhirou had a fruitful day. With just a slight hint that she wanted to find a husband, a large group of sycophants presented her with portraits of eligible men and introductions of their family backgrounds.

"Sisi, come here quickly, see if there's anyone you like." Jiang Zhirou beckoned to Nan Wusi.

When Nan Wusi saw her mother holding a large stack of Xuan paper, she walked over with great curiosity, wanting to see what her mother would let her choose.

But as she got closer, she discovered that the large stack of Xuan paper was actually portraits of various men.

"Mother, where did you get so many portraits? Which one do you want me to choose?" Nan Wusi was very curious and had no idea that her mother was choosing a husband for her.

"Pick a few first," Jiang Zhirou said, keeping everyone in suspense.

"Alright." Nan Wusi did start looking at it seriously, but after seeing several familiar faces, she became wary.

“Mother, some of the people in these portraits look familiar. Where did you get these portraits, and what do you want with them?” Nan Wusi asked again.

"These were obtained from various ladies in the capital."

Nan Wusi looked at Jiang Zhirou with a surprised and uncertain expression. What was her mother trying to do? Suddenly, it dawned on her. "You're not picking out a boyfriend for me, are you?"

"What do you mean by 'partner'?" Jiang Zhirou asked, puzzled. "Naturally, it's about choosing a good husband for you."

"I don't want to." Nan Wusi refused outright, jokingly referring to herself as a modern woman from a small neighborhood who refused an arranged marriage.

"You have to have it whether you want it or not." Jiang Zhirou ignored her completely. "As long as your marriage is not settled, I will not be at ease."

"These two older brothers aren't even engaged yet, why are they in such a hurry to arrange a marriage for me?"

"You're a girl, you've reached the age where you should get married."

"What's wrong with girls? I don't want them anyway. These people are so ugly, I can't stand them." Nan Wusi started throwing a tantrum. "I don't want them, I don't want them, I don't want them."
