Chapter Seventy-Three: Declaration of War

When Nan Wusi returned to her courtyard, she found that Nan Wufeng was already waiting for her at the gate.

"Big brother," Nan Wusi called out.

"Third Sister, is Miss Ouyang alright now?" Nan Wufeng asked with some concern.

“Xinxi is alright now.” Nan Wu thought about how much Ouyang Xinxi seemed to care about her elder brother’s opinion today, so she asked, “I wonder what elder brother’s opinion is on Xinxi’s matter?”

"When I arrived at the City God Temple, His Highness Prince Yi was already there, and the two villains had already been executed, so I wasn't entirely clear on the specifics at the time," Nan Wufeng shook his head.

“Now that Xinxi’s reputation is damaged, it will be difficult for her to marry the person she loves again,” Nan Wusi said deliberately.

“None of us will talk about what happened today, so how could Miss Ouyang’s reputation be damaged?” Nan Wufeng was a little confused. He was sure that His Highness Prince Yi would not spread this matter, especially since he had asked His Highness Prince Yi for help before he left.

"What do you think of Xinxi's situation today, brother? Do you look down on her?" Nan Wusi was speechless when he saw that Nan Wufeng hadn't reacted yet. His older brother was such a stubborn person.

“This isn’t Miss Ouyang’s fault, so I certainly won’t look down on her. Besides, I have no right to look down on Miss Ouyang.” Nan Wufeng didn’t understand why his third sister would ask him this question.

Looking at his clueless older brother, Nan Wusi could only sigh inwardly. It seemed that the two of them still had a long way to go if they wanted to achieve enlightenment.

On her way back to her courtyard, Ouyang Xinxi told Yin'er what had happened and told her how to handle the situation, urging her not to panic and give herself away.

Today is the day Ouyang Xinxi sees the true colors of the mother and daughter in the mansion. From now on, she has no intention of compromising or backing down anymore. So after dealing with today's matter, she still needs to slowly plan how to make those two get the retribution they deserve.

Not long after Ouyang Xinxi returned to the courtyard, someone summoned her to the main hall, indicating that her return to the mansion had already been reported to her father by a servant.

Ouyang Xinxi brought Yin'er to the main hall and found that, in addition to her father, all the concubines in the mansion were there.

"Xi'er, where did you go today?" Ouyang Yan was a little angry when he saw that Ouyang Xinxi was unharmed. The whole mansion had gone to great lengths to find her today, but in the end she came back all by herself, completely unharmed.

"Father, I went to play in the street today, but I accidentally tore my clothes. So I've been shopping to buy a suitable outfit so I won't lose face," Ouyang Xinxi said, giving the explanation she had already prepared.

"You can still be out shopping this late? The manor has been sending people to look for you, didn't you know?" Ouyang Yan gave Ouyang Xinxi a deep look.

"Huh? Did the manor send someone to look for me? Why is that?" Ouyang Xinxi looked bewildered, as if she really didn't know anything about it.

Seeing Ouyang Xinxi's expression, Ouyang Yan realized she was genuinely unaware of the matter, so had she been tricked today? Thinking this, Ouyang Yan's face darkened even further.

"Sister, it seems that only Mengyifang in the capital has this style of clothing, right?" Ouyang Jiangli interjected at this moment.

"My sister really has good taste. She's never bought clothes from Mengyifang before, yet she knows it's their style," Ouyang Xinxi said with a cool sarcasm. "What's wrong with that?"

"As far as I know, Mengyifang only releases two everyday outfits a month, and the one you're wearing isn't one of the newest ones." Ouyang Jiangli is now certain that Ouyang Xinxi was in the City God Temple at the time, and it was Nan Wusi who rescued her.

Ouyang Jiangli had already developed a murderous intent towards Nan Wusi, who had repeatedly thwarted her plans.

“Because I couldn’t find any suitable clothes, I went to my good friend’s shop, and she happened to have a new outfit made for me to try on. Is there anything wrong with that?” Ouyang Xinxi retorted.

“But when we sent people to look for you today, Mengyifang was closed,” Ouyang Jiangli continued.

Ouyang Xinxi glanced at Yin'er, who gently shook her head. As far as she knew, Yin'er had stayed in Mengyi Workshop all day, so Ouyang Jiangli was bluffing her.

“What do you mean by this, sister? Are you suspecting that I’m lying?” Ouyang Xinxi naturally wouldn’t back down. “I’ve been at Mengyi Shop all afternoon. If someone had come looking for me, I would have known. As for why Mengyi Shop is closed, there are no other customers here. They can close the shop whenever they want.”

"My sister has really made a good friend."

“Of course, only people of the same status can become friends, don’t you agree, my dear sister?” Ouyang Xinxi glanced at Ouyang Jiangli with disdain. She didn’t know what was wrong with her brain in the past, that she would tolerate a concubine’s daughter causing trouble for her at every turn.

Seeing that the two were about to start arguing, which annoyed him, Ouyang Yan spoke up to stop them: "Alright, why are you two sisters talking so aggressively? Since there's nothing else, let's not say any more today and go our separate ways."

So everyone in the hall got up and took their leave, while Ouyang Xinxi and Ouyang Jiangli walked out side by side. Ouyang Jiangli whispered in Ouyang Xinxi's ear, "Sister won't be so lucky next time."

"I'll return those words to my sister," Ouyang Xinxi said calmly, which was her declaration of war against the two of them.

After the two returned to the courtyard, Yin'er said to Ouyang Xinxi, "Miss, this second young lady is too arrogant. She actually did such a thing today. We must be very careful in the future."

"Yes, I know." Ouyang Xinxi nodded. She had acted impulsively today. The household affairs were still controlled by the second concubine. If she openly defied her, she would not get the better of it. Her power in the household was too weak, and she needed to plan carefully.

“Wake me up early tomorrow, let’s go see Grandma,” Ouyang Xinxi said to Yin’er.

“Yes, Miss.” Yin’er nodded.

Nan Wusi was naturally unaware of what had happened at the Prime Minister's residence. She was currently questioning her second brother, Nan Wuyu, about the gang that had kidnapped Ouyang Xinxi that day.

However, neither Nan Wufeng nor Nan Wuyu knew much about this gang. Although Nan Wuyu had heard of the gang, he only knew that its power was deeply entrenched and that it had many connections with officials in the court, so no one in the capital dared to provoke it.

Nan Wuyu was afraid that Nan Wusi would do something dangerous, so he kept advising her: "Little sister, you must not act impulsively. If this force offends you, do not rush forward to confront them head-on. Now that our parents are about to leave the capital, it is best not to cause any trouble."
