After a moment, the merchant came to his senses, looked up and cursed loudly.
"Shameless! Utterly shameless! How could there be such a shameless family in this world!"
"This is outrageous! This is outrageous!"
The same scene played out repeatedly throughout the capital.
The entire capital city was in an uproar!
The four families of wax craftsmen spread like wildfire, like a plague.
Countless people gathered in twos and threes in the street taverns, cursing loudly at the Pei family!
A single newspaper ignited the entire capital city.
Those members of the Pei family in the Imperial Academy were directly attacked and criticized.
In an instant, the Pei clan became like rats crossing the street, hated by everyone.
Meanwhile, inside a teahouse.
A storyteller in a long robe set out tea, and the gavel was ready to begin today's story.
Just then, a tall, handsome young man walked onto the stage and clasped his hands in greeting to the storyteller.
"Please tell us this story today, sir."
The storyteller, looking surprised and doubtful, took the script from the young man's hands.
I glanced at the storyteller and was immediately captivated!
It took a long time before he came to his senses, until a burst of angry shouts came from below the stage.
However, upon looking around, the young man's figure had already disappeared, and in front of him was a silver ingot.
The storyteller calmly slipped the silver ingot into his pocket.
A spoiled young man dressed in brocade robes in the audience said impatiently.
"It's the same few stories over and over again every day. Can't you come up with something new? I'm so tired of hearing them."
The storyteller laughed heartily upon hearing this.
“Young master, you’ve come at the right time today. I’ve just come across a new storybook.”
"You spoiled brat in your embroidered robes," the arrogant young master said impatiently.
"Tell me quickly, or I'll smash your place if the story isn't good!"
The storyteller smiled, then cleared his throat, slammed his gavel, and announced in a loud voice.
As the saying goes: "Frost fills the sky over the ten-mile-long calm lake, and every inch of black hair is filled with sorrow for the passing years."
"Gazing at the moon alone, I yearn for companionship; I envy not the immortals, but only the mandarin ducks."
The story I'm going to tell today is called "A Chinese Ghost Story".
