Chapter 148 Provocation

He Lan was furious when he saw the contents of the three large boxes in front of him.

Then he kicked the box in front of him to the ground.

In an instant, the fingers, ears, and nose inside rolled off and fell to the ground, creating a spectacular sight.

The dozens of surviving scouts immediately knelt on the ground, begging He Lan for forgiveness.

He Lan, shirtless, looked at the people kneeling on the ground begging for mercy and angrily rebuked them.

"You have utterly disgraced us grassland warriors!"

Having said that, He Lan immediately gave the order.

"Hang up all these cowards! I want to watch them bleed to death!"

As soon as the words were spoken, someone stepped forward and dragged them all away, ignoring their screams and pleas.

A burly centurion named Gemo, standing next to He Lan, spoke angrily.

"These Han Chinese are incredibly arrogant! We didn't even kill them, yet they came out of the city to provoke us!"

"These Han people must be taught a lesson!"

Before Gemo could finish speaking, He Lan abruptly interrupted him.

"The Left Wise King's order to me is to guard Fuling City and absolutely not to attack it!"

"But!"

Gemo wanted to say something more, but was forced back by He Lan's gaze.

Left with no other choice, Gemo ordered the patrols scattered around Fuling City to tighten their patrols and keep them as close as possible to the main camp.

In the following days, the situation not only did not improve, but worsened.

More and more scouts were being slaughtered by entire squads.

Boxes of ears, noses, and fingers were delivered into He Lan's camp.

Meanwhile, on the flagpoles of Helan's camp, there were more and more squad leaders, platoon leaders, and even centurions who had been killed and were being executed as a warning to others.

Resentment boiled over throughout the camp. How could these warriors of the grasslands tolerate such insults and provocations?

They all requested that troops be sent to eliminate this group of Han cavalrymen who were roaming outside the military camp, but unfortunately, He Lan refused them all.

Three days later, Gemo, who was on guard duty outside the military camp, was sleeping.

However, the next moment, a soldier rushed into Gemo's camp.

"Commander, something terrible has happened! The Han Chinese are attacking the camp!"

"What!"

Upon hearing this, Gemo immediately awoke and quickly donned his armor, climbing onto the wooden wall of the military camp.

However, once the wall was erected, all that could be seen in front of the military camp was an empty space.

Gemo was furious and grabbed the Hun soldier who had come to deliver the message, roaring at him.

Where are the Han Chinese?

The soldier immediately pointed in terror to a patch of withered trees on the side of the camp.

Looking in the direction of the finger, just one glance made Gemo feel a surge of anger rush from the soles of his feet to his head.

There were only five people under the shade of the trees.

Three of them rode horses to keep watch in all directions.

The remaining two, on the other hand, openly barbecued meat under the shade of a tree.

They were grilling meat while also enjoying fine wine.

It was as if the distant Xiongnu camp didn't exist.

There are many ways to provoke someone, but even Gemo had never seen anything as excessive as this before!

The two people grilling meat under the shade of the tree were Mu Zi'an and Luo Cheng.

Next to the grill, a military flag stood.

Several heads of Huns were prominently displayed at the top of the military flag.

The military flag bears eight large characters: Mu Zian, Duke of Dali.

After seeing everything clearly, Gemo was so angry he was practically fuming.

He threw the soldier he was holding onto the ground and said through gritted teeth.

"What arrogant Han dogs! Do they think our army is without any backbone?"

Five mere horsemen dared to drink and make merry in front of their army camp of tens of thousands of riders.

It's like rubbing the soles of your feet against their faces repeatedly, and the sole of that foot has just stepped in dog poop.

Enraged, Gemo immediately ordered his best archers to be summoned while his trusted men went to the central command tent to inform He Lan of the situation.

In no time, dozens of archers were in position, and then Gemo immediately ordered them to aim at Mu Zian's location and fire arrows.

However, something even more unsettling happened: all the arrows finally stopped steadily ten meters in front of Mu Zi'an.

Even the strongest archer under Gemo's command couldn't reach Mu Zi'an.

Enraged, Gemo roared furiously atop the wooden wall.

Seeing this, Mu Zian laughed heartily, picked up the Zhentian Bow, drew the bow, aimed, and released the arrow in one swift motion!

The arrow pierced the sky and pinned a Xiongnu archer to death.

Upon seeing this, the three night scouts behind him immediately raised their arms and shouted.

Seeing this scene made Gemo's veins throb.

However, the sentry who went to deliver the order also hurriedly returned with He Lan's command.

The command is very simple, consisting of only one sentence and four words.

"No troops are allowed to be sent."

Upon hearing this, Gemo's dark face turned red with anger.

Over the years, the Xiongnu and the Dali have fought every year, with each side experiencing victories and defeats.

But never before have we suffered such a humiliation as we have today!

Gemo was a hot-tempered man, and he immediately disobeyed He Lan's orders to go and wipe out the madman in front of him.

However, he was stopped by several centurions under his command as soon as he took a step forward.

After all, if anything happened to Gemo, all of them would be hung on the flagpole and made into jerky by He Lan.

Gemo, who had been pulled away, flung the crowd aside and glared angrily.

"These Han dogs are so arrogant! Are we, as warriors of the grasslands, just going to swallow this insult?"
