Chapter 10 Visiting Wen Fang's Home

There was a time when I wanted to quit working and long for my own business. At my husband's suggestion, I considered selling shoes. He believed children and young people were the main consumer groups, and he had access to the supply. However, I had my own ideas and ultimately chose to sell earrings and clothes.

Despite my passion and hard work, the road to entrepreneurship was fraught with challenges. Market competition was fierce, sales weren't as good as I'd hoped, and ultimately, my business failed, with many products sold at a loss.

There are still some unsold items in the room that I keep for my own use. I work here now, and the hours are stable, so I don't have to work so hard. It's also close to my hometown, so it's convenient for me to go back and take care of my family."

Wen Fang calmly recounted her thoughts: "He pays for all the household expenses. I'm saving hard now so that I can start my own business anytime I want. Besides, my family isn't well off, and I have to support my younger brother through high school. His grades aren't ideal, but I want him to at least get a college degree and learn a technical skill. As for marriage, I'm not in a rush. After all, he already has a son, and I don't want to rush into having children. It's not too late to consider marriage when I really want to. I'm still young, only 23, so it's perfectly fine to consider marriage in my 30s."

After hearing Wen Fang's words, Wang Yitong was filled with admiration and couldn't help but sigh, "Sister Fang, you are so capable. Not only do you take care of the family, but you also have your own ideas and plans. In comparison, I'm still asking my family for money. If I meet someone I like in the future, I want to get married soon. When I was a child, I always left my parents to study outside, so I really want to have a family of my own."

Wen Fang smiled and encouraged Wang Yitong, "Oh, our sister Tong is so well-behaved and sensible. She will definitely meet someone you like." Then, she enthusiastically suggested, "Let's go to the nearby vegetable market to buy some vegetables. You can have lunch at my house. After lunch, you can take a nap and then go to the nearby park in the afternoon. It's very lively there in the afternoon."

Wang Yitong happily agreed: "Okay, I'll follow your arrangements." Her eyes revealed her anticipation for this decision.

With that, the two linked arms and walked briskly out to the market. The old neighborhood's streets were bustling with stalls, a vibrant atmosphere of life permeating the air. The air was filled with the aroma of various foods: the alluring flavor of pig intestine rice noodles, the crispy aroma of pot cakes, the rich fragrance of braised food shops, the refreshing fruity aroma of fruit shops, and the unique aroma of dried tofu and bean curd. These rich flavors intertwined to create a unique urban atmosphere.

The two of them browsed the market for fresh produce. Wang Yitong meticulously selected pineapples, ensuring they were golden and juicy, while Wen Fang expertly sorted tomatoes, selecting the brightly colored, plump fruits. They also bought loofah, eggplant, fresh fish, and various seasonings. On their way home, they grabbed a delicious bowl of maocai.

After returning to Wen Fang's home, she enthusiastically said, "For lunch, we'll have delicious boiled fish, accompanied by refreshing maocai and nutritious loofah soup. Tonight, we'll have winter melon stewed with pork ribs and delicious homemade eggplant." Wang Yitong excitedly responded, "Sister Fang, you're such a culinary expert! I'm here to learn from you and help out. I can peel garlic, cut loofah, and even help wash the side dishes!"

They immediately went to the kitchen and began their delightful cooking journey. Wang Yitong expertly peeled and minced garlic cloves into fine pieces, adding a unique aroma to the dish. Wen Fang skillfully sliced loofah into even slices, preparing to make a refreshing and delicious loofah soup.

In a short while, Wen Fang prepared a pot of delicious boiled fish. The red chili peppers and the tender fish complemented each other beautifully, making it mouth-watering. Wang Yitong also prepared a loofah soup, which exuded a light fragrance of loofah.

The two placed their carefully prepared dishes on the table, topped off with steaming rice, and sat down to enjoy their meals while chatting about interesting anecdotes from their work. Wen Fang shared some of the oddities she'd encountered at work, and those anecdotes made Wang Yitong burst into laughter. The laughter echoed throughout the room, lightening the atmosphere.

After dinner, the two of them cleaned up the table together. Wen Fang was responsible for washing the dishes, while Wang Yitong mopped the floor diligently. They worked in perfect harmony and completed the post-dinner cleanup happily. Afterwards, Wen Fang went into another bedroom and put on new sheets, quilt covers, and pillowcases, creating a warm and comfortable living environment for Wang Yitong. She also thoughtfully prepared a set of cute pajamas for Wang Yitong: "Yitong, this set of pajamas is one I didn't sell before. The size doesn't fit me very well, so I haven't worn it. Try it on, I hope you like it."

Wang Yitong happily accepted the pajamas and expressed her gratitude: "Sister Fang, thank you. I like this set of pajamas very much. It's very cute and makes me happy."

"Then let's rest first. Beautiful women need a good rest to take better care of themselves. I'm going to take my beauty sleep too. Good afternoon, Tongmei." After saying that, Wen Fang went back to her room to rest.

Wang Yitong also went to her room to rest. She didn't get enough rest last night, so it was rare for her to relax and fall asleep in a short while. Wen Fang woke Yitong up in the afternoon, "Tongmei, get up. It's hot outside. Let's have dinner before going to the park. Now, come and try the ice jelly I made."

Wang Yitong changed her clothes, covered herself with a quilt, and went out to the dining table, where ice jelly, raisins, hawthorn pieces, diced mango, diced peach, watermelon pieces, melon seeds, and of course the finishing touch, brown sugar water, were laid out.
