Chapter 27 Resignation

Summer mornings are bright and early. Having slept in quite a bit the previous day, Wang Yitong woke up a little after 6:00 the next morning. Zhang Benyuan was still asleep when she got up. She changed her clothes, washed up, and went to the kitchen to cook millet porridge. She then took the steamed buns she had bought from the supermarket out of the refrigerator and steamed them in a pot.

After making breakfast, she gathered her work supplies: keys, wallet, phone, tissues, sunglasses, parasol, water bottle, wallet, and the gift for Wen Fang. They were all placed in the backpack Zhang Benyuan had given her last night. Zhang Benyuan had bought her skincare products, so the set Wu Jing had given her was left over. She planned to give the set Wu Jing had given her to Wen Fang, thinking she would like it.

Wang Yitong went to the living room, removed the tags from her newly bought bags, put them away, and tiptoed into the bedroom, putting them in the closet. She checked her watch. It wasn't even seven yet, so she went back to the kitchen and fried two eggs. She brought millet porridge, fried eggs, and a refreshing bowl of kimchi to the table.

She returned to the bedroom, quietly kissed Zhang Benyuan on the face, and said softly, "Ayuan, get up! Breakfast is ready." Zhang Benyuan heard the noise and immediately hugged her in his arms.

"This is exactly the life I want. It's so nice to have such a virtuous wife. It's warm and I don't have to rely on the nanny to do everything. Okay, I'm getting up." Zhang Benyuan said and kissed Wang Yitong on the face.

He walked to the closet and put on the polo shirt and jeans that Wang Yitong had picked for him. Suddenly, he wanted to change his style so that it would be more suitable.

They came to the dining table and had breakfast together. Zhang Benyuan said to Wang Yitong, "Remember to go and handle your resignation today. Our jobs aren't on the same route, so I'll take you to the bus stop and you can take the bus to work. Also, if I come back for dinner or stay overnight, I'll let you know in advance. If not, you'll have to take care of yourself. I might be a little busy at work, so if I have to work overtime, I'll just stay near the company."

Wang Yitong smiled and nodded, saying, "Don't worry, I will remember to complete the resignation procedures. Don't work too hard, and take care of your health no matter how busy you are at work."

After breakfast, Zhang Benyuan drove Wang Yitong to the Shuangnan bus stop. During rush hour, most buses only have seats at the starting station. Luckily, the bus stop wasn't far from the starting station, and the buses were frequent. Wang Yitong left early, so she still had a spot. However, the bus became increasingly crowded as it got further in. Watching the increasingly crowded bus, Wang Yitong thought, "Even though I lived close to the newspaper office, I didn't feel the commuting crowds so closely. Thankfully, my new job isn't that far away, or I'd be squeezed like a hamburger."

As the bus moved forward, more and more people piled onto the bus at each stop. Wang Yitong looked at the crowded crowds around her and couldn't help but sigh at the prosperity and bustle of the city.

She thought back to her previous job: although she lived not far from the newspaper office, she had never felt the commuting crowds up close. This firsthand experience made her appreciate her current life even more.

Finally, the bus arrived at her destination. Wang Yitong got off the bus, took a deep breath, and felt the fresh air. She looked up at the sky. The sun was shining brightly, and the warm light shone on her body, making her feel relaxed and happy.

When she arrived at the newspaper office, a colleague noticed her new look and whispered to her, "Wang Yitong has changed so much in just one weekend." She walked into Director He's office. Director He looked at Wang Yitong with a look of concern on his face.

Supervisor He: "Yitong, how is your move going? Considering a few days of rest, have you decided to resign?"

Wang Yitong: "Manager He, I've thought it through. My personal affairs do require more of my time and energy, so I've decided to resign."

Manager He: "I understand your decision, but I still hope you can reconsider. Our newspaper's development prospects are still very good, and you have great room for advancement here."

Wang Yitong: "Manager He, I appreciate your appreciation and your willingness to stay. But I've really made up my mind. However, before I leave, I will do my best to complete the work at hand and make a good handover."

Manager He: "Well, since you've made up your mind, I won't force you. I hope you'll have better and better futures. By the way, when do you plan to officially resign?"

Wang Yitong: "I want to complete the resignation procedures today, is that okay?"

Manager He: "Sure, no problem. Then just prepare your resignation application and related paperwork and submit it to the HR department."

Wang Yitong: "Okay, thank you, Manager He."

Wang Yitong left Manager He's office, feeling a sense of emotion. She packed her things and began preparing for her resignation. She sent Wen Fang the client data and follow-up records she'd compiled during her time there, told her she'd moved over the weekend, and would be back today to complete her resignation paperwork. They arranged to have dinner together after get off work that evening.

During this period, she also said goodbye to her colleagues one by one. Only then did other colleagues know that she was leaving. They were all very surprised. Her performance was so good that they all thought she was almost as good as Sasha, and she was going to be hired as a regular employee so quickly. They were a little confused.

Wang Yitong told them all that she had family matters and other arrangements. She thanked them for their help and support during their work. After completing the work handover that morning, she logged into her QQ account and sent the client information to Wen Fang. She also copied a copy to her USB drive so that she could keep the information from her work session, in case it was needed later.

At noon, she, Wen Fang, and several other colleagues finished their lunch together and returned to the office for a break. One of them noticed Wang Yitong's bag and new phone and said, "Yitong, you're almost leaving now, and I can see you're still rich. That bag must have cost at least four figures, and that phone is a new Nokia, equivalent to two or three months' salary for me."
