Chapter 49 Knowing the Secret

A new week begins, and Wang Yitong resumes her normal work life. She brings her computer to the company.

After arriving at the office that morning, Wang Yitong gave Mr. Luo some tea and then made herself a cup of scented tea. She then turned on her computer to check the stock market and continue placing buy orders.

Mr. Luo began assigning new tasks to Wu Meili and Wang Yitong, including continuing to recruit engineers and liaising with the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Administration. This time, they were tasked with conducting safety inspections for potential production hazards in the Qingyang Industrial Park.

She was busy until the afternoon. Fortunately, she started to follow Wu Meili and was responsible for some recruitment work, which allowed her to learn something. Now her cousin Wen Tian works part-time as a customer service representative, otherwise she would be hopeless if she were so busy at work.

As more people came to the office, Wang Yitong made a cleaning schedule. In the afternoon, as she watched her colleagues leaving get off work one after another, Wang Yitong finished cleaning and prepared to turn off the computer and go home to deliver the express.

"Yitong, please stay. We have a dinner tonight. Please come with me." Luo Chenggang stopped Wang Yitong who was turning off her phone and wanted to leave work.

Upon hearing the arrangement, Wang Yitong quickly agreed, "Okay, Mr. Luo." At this moment, Wang Yitong's heart was really wanting to complain. I want to go home and deliver packages. I want to go home and earn money. This is clearly the business department's business. What does it have to do with me? Why can't the boss hire a female employee in the business group? No wonder Meilijie ran away so quickly! I have to bring this up with Meilijie tomorrow. Hiring a female employee who can handle socializing.

For the sake of this job, for the sake of being able to officially transfer to another position, for the sake of the five social insurances and one housing fund, for the sake of being able to slack off, and for the sake of being able to learn about human resources work, I endured it.

Luo Chenggang drove Wang Yitong to the restaurant, and Wang Yitong parked in the company parking lot. Luo Chenggang brought some Wuliangye liquor to the well-known Hongxing Restaurant in Chengdu. After ordering, the two waited an hour for officials from the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Administration and the Qingyang Industrial Park to arrive.

During the ordering process, Luo Chenggang asked Wang Yitong how much she could drink. Wang Yitong quickly replied, "Mr. Luo, I can't drink much. I get drunk after just one small drink. I'm also allergic to alcohol. On top of that, I'm on my period today. I'll have to trouble you with the drinking later. Mr. Luo, Meili and I will start recruiting female sales representatives tomorrow."

Luo Chenggang saw Wang Yitong's nervousness and knew that she looked a little depressed today, so he believed what she said. "Don't drink later. After I drink, you will be responsible for driving me back."

"Okay, Mr. Luo."

The top leaders of the two departments did not come, so the arranged project liaison came over. After the two sides exchanged greetings, Wang Yitong went out to arrange for the waiters to serve the dishes in the private room, handed the wine to the waiter, and helped pour the wine.

At the dinner, the three executives, well aware of Mr. Luo's connections, enjoyed a pleasant, post-drink chat. Wang Yitong occasionally refilled the leader's glass. Soon, the conversation turned to the bidding for several plots of land in Qingyang District and the land acquisition by Southwest Yuanchuan Real Estate Company.

Luo Chenggang saw Wang Yitong listening attentively with her ear tilted, and calmly redirected the topic.

"I think I've heard of this company before. They used to be an agent for second-hand properties and new real estate projects, and later they seemed to be involved in resettlement housing projects. This company has a wide range of businesses, and now they are even bidding for land."

The leader in charge of the training for the Qingyang District Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department said over a drink, "You're incredibly well-informed. You even know about other people's developments. I've also heard from other colleagues that this company's CEOs, Zhang and Chen, have strong connections with Chengdu. Especially Mr. Zhang, he's our leader's junior, and most importantly, our leader's mentor is his father-in-law. What do you think of that relationship?"

Another leader also said: "Others also bid formally and won the land based on their ability."

Luo Chenggang continued: "Haha, it is indeed strength. Relying on the father-in-law is also someone else's strength."

Wang Yitong's face turned pale after hearing this, and he hurriedly asked, "Leaders, are you referring to Mr. Zhang from Southwest Yuanchuan? Is he Mr. Zhang Benyuan?"

The leader saw Wang Yitong's expression was not right and asked, "Do you also know this Mr. Zhang?"

Luo Chenggang said hurriedly: "I'm so sorry, leaders. My employee is not feeling well today, so I asked her to come over to help me drive. I heard her say before that she seemed to have known Mr. Zhang in her previous job, so I was surprised to hear his name. I hope the three leaders will forgive me. I will let her go out and order us a bottle of wine.

Yitong, go out and get us another bottle of wine."

After hearing Luo Chenggang's help, Wang Yitong expressed her gratitude and hurried out to ask the waiter to bring another bottle of the wine they had brought. Then she went to the bathroom and burst into tears in front of the washbasin mirror.

She took out her cell phone and called Zhang Benyuan, but it was still turned off. Thinking of this, her heart sank, and she took out a piece of paper. While wiping her tears, she recalled every little detail of her time with Zhang Benyuan.

Wang Yitong wondered if Zhang Benyuan's kindness to her before was all fake. He had hidden it so well that she hadn't noticed it at all.

The more she thought about it, the sadder she became, and her tears couldn't stop flowing.

After calming down for a while, Wang Yitong decided to go back and continue socializing.

Back in the private room, she forced a smile and continued to serve the leaders.

After the drinking party, Luo Chenggang found Wang Yitong and asked her with concern: "Are you okay?"

Wang Yitong glanced at him gratefully and said, "I'm fine. Thank you, Mr. Luo."

Luo Chenggang patted her shoulder and said, "Drive me home first. I have a headache."

Wang Yitong calmly drove Luo Chenggang back home. Luo Chenggang asked knowingly, "Why are you so upset and looking so bad when we talked about Mr. Zhang today?"

Wang Yitong gritted her teeth and said calmly, "Just like you said, I was surprised to hear the name of a client from my previous job. I'm also feeling unwell and pale today."
